Rafa Benitez Seems Confident Newcastle Can Avoid Relegation

Rafa Benitez has been interviewed in the Chronicle today, and he seems calm and confident that we can achieve survival in the Premier League – even if he says it will take another miracle – like last season.

Rafa may be overdoing the miracles there.

🙂

We are hoping Rafa can bring in three or four good players in this January transfer window so the squad is strengthened and that will help us survive and get the wins we need to stay up.

Rafa was heavily criticized by Newcastle icon Alan Shearer for the weak team he played against Championship club Blackburn last Saturday in the FA Cup, and now we have a replay next week after the 1-1 draw.

Shearer thought Rafa should have fielded a stronger side to give fans what they want – to win the FA Cup – or at least have a lengthy FA Cup run.

We have a terrible record in the FA Cup over the last several years.

Rafa Benitez – seems confident Newcastle can avoid relegation

But we may not have a strong enough squad for that this season – it will take all we have to pull away from the relegation zone this season – even though that’s what we did last year.

But Rafa seems upbeat and confident we can survive in the Premier League this season.

This is what he had this to say in the Chronicle today:

“Our reaction in the second part of the Premier League last season was quite good.” “We have to realize now it won’t always be like that but we have to work hard.”

“It is better to get the points early and see afterwards how far we can go.”

“I think we are fine, but am I totally happy with what we are achieving now? No, because we can do better.”

“It will be easier for us to manage the second half of the season.” “I’m still quite confident if we do the right things we will stay up. Even if it is a miracle.”

“To be fair I didn’t just manage the squad against Liverpool, I thought we could win the game with fresh legs and doing the right things.”

“I was disappointed because we made mistakes against a very good team to give them the advantage.” “We should have managed the game better.”

“The festive games are not just about managing the squad and having fresh legs for each game, it is to pick the right players for a certain game.”

“Sometimes a player who is classed as better in theory, they can be tired.” “If he is tired he’s worse than the other one.”

“If you had Lionel Messi – OK, he would have to be there no matter what because he can make the difference.”

“But if you don’t have players like a Messi or players of a similar level you need players who can give you something physically in a third game in a row in a short period of time.”

The Newcastle squad travel to Chelsea on Saturday, and in the 7 games we have played against the top six clubs this season we have lost every one of them.

If we can take a point at Stamford Bridge on Saturday that would be a decent enough result.

But our defense will need to be at their very best, and we will need to make the best of any counter-attacks we can create in the game.

It will be a difficult game – for sure

Comments welcome.

If Rafa walked. I wouldn’t blame him. We need to unite and oust the fat fcuker as we can’t rely on someone taking us over because he won’t sell.

It’s very unlikely, is he an electrician, there are about 80K North Sea oil workers with a huge amount from our neck of the woods.

I’d like to think Rafa would have a good claim, it would make sense given the past and why such a high profile manager took on this job in the first place. There must have been some big claims made by Ashley.

I’m not defending Ashley in anyway here, just so that’s clear. All I’m saying is I don’t know the circumstances to say he’d definitely win a tribunal, which is potentially why he is still here. I personally think it’s cause Rafa is a good guy and has loyalty to the fans, club and city before the owner.

    Jail,
My point ref releasing funds was subject to agreeing deal now prior to agreeing to release funds for players, as it would take a few weeks to go through…..yes they would have to pass fit and proper but if we are talkin Kenyon is there any reason to think he would fail. I dont for one minute think funds would be released by a bidder prior to any agreement between him and Ashley.

The copper I was talking to at the Metro platform reckons they prefer games at the Sos because it’s much easier to police and much less trouble. They can’t hardly do anything about mackems getting in to Newcastle early then mingling in the hundreds of bars within walking distance of the ground.

Some interesting figures and no doubt bigger numbers for Ashlie to savour for this season.Although having been relegated twice before he surely realises what an impact relegation again would make to these figures

What has happened to all the “inside” sources who told us a sale was imminent in December. Possibly people weren’t as “inside” as they thought they were. I never believed a word of it. It was all rumour passed from person to person. We may never know the sale details (if and when it happens that is). Money will change hands in large amounts, I’m fairly certain of that but not much more.

If Rafa is in such demand as some posters on here think he is , then surely Rafa only has to sit out his contract for the next 4 months and just hope he doesn’t get trampled to death in the stampede in the rush for his signature, come May , but I’m not holding my breath.

Of course Rafa will Go, but do Fans really want MA oot, most do but a few pathetic protests outside of a couple of SD shops and a 11 minute stand off, who’s the brains behind that? It’s laughably..Fans put there hard earned cash in his pocket. Mash is having the last laugh. An
Empty stadium is the Only answer,
But fans won’t do that so if that’s the case people shut up stop complaining and enjoy the dross we’ve got because they’re the one’s who’s keeping the fat git in business.

Just teasing OP. No offense intended. Now let’s discuss the upcoming Buffoon of the Year awards. In my opinion it’s a tight race this year with Gomer Trump finally getting some much deserved competition from the likes of Mike Asshat, and Theresa May. I’ve already got my vote in but won’t reveal it yet…

Benitez not talking about transfers could be one of two reasons.
    1. He has been told not to talk as the detail could leak news on if the takeover is happening or not.
    2. He knows that regardless of what he says the decision on which player(s) coming, if any (probably none) is not in his hands.

I personally think it is number 2.
Quite appropriate really as we are in a load of number 2.
