There’s an exclusive report by Luke Edwards in the Telegraph today that if Rafa doesn’t get some players brought in during this January transfer window (it’s quickly running out) he will walk away from Newcastle when his contract runs out at the end of June.
That shouldn’t come as a surprise to Newcastle fans – we are surprised he’s lasted this long the way Mike Ashley has refused to spend the club’s money on players since Rafa joined us almost three years ago.
It doesn’t say that Luke Edwards reporting is accurate and maybe Rafa is using this ploy to press Ashley to buy.
But Rafa is also a man of his word so if it is true and Ashley still refuses to sign some loan players in the next 9 days, then it doesn’t look good as far as Rafa remaining as the Newcastle manager in the summer.
Mike Ashley somehow managed to get a world-class manager to Newcastle who has great ambitions for the sleeping giant called Newcastle United and then he has basically forced him out with his miserly way of running a football club.

Ashley doesn’t want to spend money on good players so Rafa can build a top team – shame on him.
Rafa should leave Newcastle for his own good in the summer if Mike Ashley is still the Newcastle owner by then – which seems almost certain.
A takeover of the club also looks as far away as ever.
Here are some typical tweets about the rather depressing situation.

Nobody could blame Rafa for leaving at the end of the season. I wouldn’t blame him if he left at the end of today #NUFC

Ashley’s supporters often point to the fact #NUFC have secured the services of Rafa Benetiz during his ownership as a positive which fans don’t appreciate.
This is essentially correct, however if Rafa walks away because he’s not being backed, it will all have been for nothing. https://t.co/PF2Lr36fKA

I’m going to make a prediction that #nufc will make at least one proper signing before month end, probably propped up by a couple of loan/free/bargains.
Not an attempt to put things right, just a token effort for the Fat Man to point to, pretending he did back Rafa.

It will be so Mike Ashley for Rafa to leave then give the next #nufc manager 60-70 million to spend in the summer

#NUFC the media have reported a pearler today. Rafa to leave if he doesn’t get new players. Wow!

Cancelled my season ticket after 9 years today. Gutted to do it as it is a good day out with my brother but I can’t justify spending another penny on that club whilst our board refuses to back our manager and let him compete fairly #NUFC

So, I don’t mind #NUFC just getting loans in January. Teams hardly ever let decent players go in Jan, so keep the money until the summer for permanent signings.
Problem is we won’t spend in the summer.
I’m off to punch 4 horses.

This should not come as a revelation to #NUFC fans. It was vividly voiced from the beginning that Rafa would not sign an extension if Ashley didn’t implement financial backing; and so, here we are.
