Paul Merson Predicts Newcastle vs Watford Result

BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted a 2-0 win today for Newcastle against Watford in the FA Cup 4th round at St. James’ Park.

But Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson – never too positive on Newcastle – thinks we will lose the tie 2-1.

He thinks we should play our top team today and forget about the game on Tuesday night at home to Manchester City in the league.

A lot of our fans think that way.

Here’s what Paul (shown above) has said on Sky Sports:

“In my opinion, Newcastle should write off their next game against Manchester City and go all out in this one.”

“The loyal Newcastle fans know their football – they will be thinking the same.”

“This is a great opportunity for a cup run. If they get Doncaster in the next round then they are in the quarter-finals.”

Maybe Rafa Benitez should start thinking of what the fans want? I’m not sure he will see it that way.”

“Watford are a tough team – they played well at St James’ earlier this season. I will go for away win.”

Prediction: 1-2

We do have a chance of going through to the 5th round and that would be excellent.

But we also have to pick up points in the league – another relegation would mean Rafa would definitely leave the club.

Then we would be a second division club with Mike Ashley as the owner.

What could be worse than that?

A third division club with Mike Ashley as the owner.

We have to take every Premier League game seriously and it seems that Rafa will be able to field a fairly strong side today.

What do you think?

If what we read is correct at we are £4 million apart for the fee of Almiron, why not suggest to his agent to waive his £4 million fee and agree to paying it in a few years/when we sell Almiron to his next club. Even offer him £5 million if his player makes the grade – lets face it, if the agent is asking such a high fee does this suggest he expects Almiron to make more transfers. Always a risk with MLS even if the kid does look good.

I’m pretty sure if we actually even bid for almiron it certainly would have been nowhere near 16 million – are fans that stupid to believe Ashley would fork out hard cash …. we can’t afford to buy the club off the fat get but maybe we should start a gofundme campaign for a hitman to get rid of the t055er

When considering James Maddisons move to Leicester was £24m, the fee for Almiron should be around the same.

No fella we are not surprised, however if this is true (£4 million agent fee) and the move does not go through i also think the agent needs to have a hard look at himself/herself. They are hindering their client from working under a fantastic manager, it would also be a brave move if the agent was to come forward and state they would now take possibly a lesser fee and encourage Newcastle to up their offer to Atlanta. If the club still refuse we will know exactly who is behind preventing this move.

I must admit £20 million for someone who is lightweight and has never played at this level, also not many other teams battling us for his signature does make me wonder his suitability for the PL – but if he is someone Rafa wants i will trust his judgement.

We never put a big in for Almiron, its what we always say with players we are linked with, we have bid, but we are just a few million short…..and nothing ever comes ofit and we get continually linked with said player every window untill someone else comes along and buys them.

Today’s game is a weird one for different reasons, I agree with Merson for once in the fact that we should really go for it Today and I’d love us to go on a good cup run for once but imagine Ashley’s face if we win and make it 3 wins in a row. His chequeboook is triple padlocked right now and if we win again that chequebook is getting a few more padlocks added to it, sent to Alcatraz and ‘accidentally’ lost. Then found again on Feb 1st just in time for him to buy another failing shitty high street shop.

However your riposte was pompous and smug, which is the tone of all of your current posts. You are not the clever, humorous poster you once were. I rate you about 4 out of 10. Happy?

Mr Ashley is the king of Brinkmanship – he will always be the last man to blink when looking to buy players! Why ’cause he doesn’t give a sh1t if any deal fails to happen – As some one wrote earlier why is there no negotiation? Why not agree add ons for this & that to get a deal through! X for games played X for any goals scored or a target figue etc etc. I think we all can see why Rafa wants a deal through early in the window…… As is just proven! The clock is ticking down and that in it’s self makes things vastly more difficult.
    26th days gone……….

No club sale! No new players! No hope!

The only certain thing is what we already know – Ashley is a shite owner!
There will come a time when Karma comes round and sorts out our problem here & the sooner the better!!!

Surely the Lukaku affair has come as no surprise to Toon fans. This sort of thing happens every January window . All we try to sign are sick notes, loan players who can’t get a game anywhere else and other teams rejects.
Just waiting for the bog standard annual announcement of :
“We tried to get quality players into t he Club but sadly just failed at the final hurdle!”
However this season Ashley/Bishop & Co will probably follow it by : ” We tried very hard to sell the Club on to a suitable buyer but sadly failed at the final hurdle”
Sick to the back teeth of al the lies, rumours, false hope and fake news.
This time Toxic Ash you have gone too far and both the Club and yourself are going to lose the best loyal manager we have had for years. Just back him you stubborn reckless numpty – you know it makes sense!

Jail……… Setting aside the rights and wrongs of Jib’s naughty comment yesterday, as I didn’t get involved in that debate, I can’t see why you would think you have the right to sit in judgement of what I should or should not be offended by.

Offence is a condition of one’s feelings being hurt by something someone has said or done. My feelings were not hurt therefore I was not offended which I pointed out to Jib. For sure I could have feigned offence but then that would have been dishonest so I chose to be upfront and truthful.

If you were offended then that was something you felt which I didn’t but it wasn’t a decision that needed to be made either way, it’s just how you feel which can’t be controlled. You have every right to feel that way as I have every right not to , but you don’t have the right to try to make me feel guilty for my feelings as I don’t have the right to call you a prude and a wuss for being offended by a daft flippant comment on a football blog.

This offence issue is an important one nowadays and we have discussed it on here several times as so many people and social groups etc are only too ready to take offence at the most trivial thing. PC is rife and in my opinion tiptoeing around people and issues so as not to offend becomes more and more ridiculous . . There are of course many who feign offence to try and gain the moral high ground but I’m in no way suggesting you are one of those.

We should go all out for a win here. 3 wins in a row will bring back the morale that we’ve been missing and we can rest players against Man City. IF we lose against Watford, then lose as expected against the big two then we head into some winnable games on the back of a 3 game losing streak. I guess Rafa will be hesitant to risk our only striker Rondon in these next three games. He’ll be benched for at least one game.

If Lukaku took a medical everything must have been agreed. I think only on transfer deadline day would teams do a medical before agreeing price and wages. He looks a bit too heavy in my opinion, same as his brother. I wonder how many years they’ve got playing at the level they are now. Surely they’ll only put on more weight as their metabolism slows down with age.

We need investment in our squad in next few days or we are down AND will lose our loyal magician of a manager who will walk and nobody here can blame him

As fans we’ve been pushed into a corner now. The club are now going to forfeit any chance of going any distance in the FA Cup because of the weaknesses in our squad. Players today will have to be “rested ” today in preparation for the mid week game against City and Spurs (Away) next weekend as it is essential that we escape leathering in the next two league matches and maintain our reasonable goal difference which may be worth an extra point at the end of the season. So the “ambition” of the Club is now to finish 17th in the Premier League.
All this could have been avoided if our stubborn greedy tight arsed owner had seen sense and released some REASONNABLE funds to Rafa to strengthen the squad. WE are not expecting mega bucks!
It beggars belief – it really does

I guess what really irritates folk about the frog is that he is fundamentally correct. Oh well. Business as usual.

He is fundamentally correct about lack of takeover and no transfers and Ashley can’t be trusted but are these some groundbreaking assessements that no other poster has had the ingenuity to come up with and worthy of being held up for all to see and wonder?

I think not – there are loads of comments going back years by a variety of posters and often on the same page as the Frog’s musings so – no points there from me for being a plagiarist

Or do you mean his the tripe about Shills and HMRC putting Ashley in prison – well it is stretching it a bit ( nah let’s be right it’s not even on the same planet as correct) nevermind being “fundamental”

Stick to the humourous interjections and give up trying to be analytical of Frog’s mutterings and their effect on other posters – unless of course that was a humourous interjection OH! once again it went way over my head 😉

With a bit luck Catchy and Jesper will be along soon and you can sharpen your “pompous and smug” witticisms on them and not have to stoop to bigging up the frog 🙂
