Paul Merson Predicts Newcastle vs Manchester City Result

It’s not very surprising that Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson cannot see anything but a win for Manchester City at St. James’ Park tomorrow night.

And he doesn’t see Newcastle scoring either.

Paul predicts a 3-0 scoreline and that would not be good – it’s not much better than the 4-0 hammering we took at Anfield late last year.

And it will not do our goal difference any good at all.

Paul Merson – predicts an easy win for City

Here’s what the pundit wrote on Sky Sports today:

“I can’t see anything but a Manchester City win here.”

“Newcastle were dumped out of the FA Cup at the weekend so that’s more negativity and another year without any sort of challenge for silverware.”

“City are flying at the moment and their good form will continue at St James’ Park.”

Prediction: 0-3

It would be nice if we could upset the odds tomorrow night – but we cannot see that happening.

Things are pretty sad Newcastle at the moment.

What do you think?

Does it not occur to pundit Merson that the team to play City in the Premiership under floodlights at SJP will be a tad different to that which played Watford

or would that be too much for him to think or articulate about ?
Sky should ask for their money back.

I noticed Adam Armstrong scored again the other night. That makes it three goals in his last five games, and he’s set up at least 4. Not bad from left wing. Hope he keeps it up.

    I voted for a win!

    Deluded, certainly!

However every dog has it’s day and I firmly believe there’s a slim chance tomorrow’s ours.

I’m going 1-0 with Atsus first goal.

Yep, loadsathought required for that one Merse.

Mag 52 from previous, Rafa won’t walk, he won’t abandon his players like that, he’ll feel they deserve better and he’s probably right.

He’ll also be thinking about his coaching staff, most of whom have been with him for years. While he might walk into another job, there’s no guarantee that they will. Even if they did, it’s a far bigger gamble for them than it is for him.

Not being confrontational, I think you made some fair points, I just think he’s got too much integrity to do as you suggest.

We had a good win against Cardiff, a serious kick up the hole v Watford, different team of course v Watford, think we might get a goal 2moro night, that’s the best I can do.

I never vote for us to lose, even when I think we will, draw minimum. So I thought if we’re going to draw against Citeh we may as well just beat them.

    Easy!

OP – this is what we do! Struggle and faff about against the bottom feeders then play like world beaters just when the big lads stroll in ready to give us a pasting. Might revise my theory to go cheeky 1-0 with a city defender or goalie getting sent off ha ha.

I’ve just remembered today is the 5year anniversary since we had a opponent sent off in the prem!

I was going to order drinks and pizza for the blog but forgot

I wonder what the refs are doing to celebrate?

Someone should phone Total sport see if we can organise a street party.

Sorry everyone, my fault I forgot, I’ll remember the 10 year anniversary I swear!

I guess that’s where me and you agree, defensive players are cheaper, but that’s where it ends IMO, Rafa gets paid the big bucks because he is meant to be a step up from the average coach, Rafa is one dimensional, it’s all about defence, all his coaching points to this, take Kennedy for instance, he came from an attacking set up at chelsea, does well, then falls away, take Murphy, you can see he has something, but every single interview about Rafa tells you he is not a good man manager, top players from all his clubs have said so, Murphy needs a SBR type of manager who would make him believe he can fly.

With Rafa everything is calculated, keep it tight, and hope we are still in it for the last 10 mins, he will push on then. i had enough of that with Pardew.

you look at his trophies and say he is good, I looked behind the trophies and seen other things. like Napoli, they spent 120 million and went backwards in every department. in 2 seasons they went from 2 to 5th

at milan, he won a trophy in his first month, then took a team who won the league 3 years on the trot, complains about the age of the team, then by dec 10 has then got fired, that same team finished 2nd with leonardo.

at Madrid, he had 18 games, lost 3 and drew 4. Zidane had the same squad but for 20 games, lost 1 and drew 2.

so what we can establish from just those 3 Top teams with Great players is, he must be doing something where top players or any players just don’t like.

ask liverpool fans who love him, they will say they love him, but his football was terrible, many will tell you it was Steve G who won the CL in spite of Rafa, who got the team line up wrong. at Liverpool Rafa played the most Long balls 3 seasons in a row.

the only reason he is still here is because the fans think he is on there side VS Ashley, when he is not, it’s just his tactic, it’s what he does at all the clubs, just our club really does have a terrible owner. it’s win win for him.

So far Rafa has been buying smart and sticking to his strengths. You can buy 3 or 4 good defensive players for 20m and with Rafa you can guarantee all them will be excellent and go up in value, or you can buy one striker/ playmaker for 20m and with Rafa you have a 50% chance (being polite) of him being a success. Imagine he’d spent the 20m+ on Kenedy, Jorgensen or SLimani and decided against buying Dubravka, Schaar, Ki and Fernandez. We’d be doomed. But now is the time to take the gamble on someone who might score a goal every now and again.

Kompany own goal to give us the win, hit from 20 yards over the head of Ederson.

That’s the final goal in a 4-3 romp, Longstaff to get a hat trick for our other goals, all from outside the box.

catchy, I know you often quote Steven Gerard as being one of those who said Rafa was not a good man manager. I know there’s a specific instance you quote often. Have you seen this? Just with you being outside the UK, it may have passed you by.

    https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steven-gerrard-rafa-benitez-liverpool-15610095

Just in case you don’t want to read the full article:

“Last week I was on the phone to Rafa and had a few conversations. I spoke to him for about 20 minutes, talking about certain teams.”

Does that strike you as a player completely at odds with his former manager?

we’ve had 18 red cards against us in that time. it’s ridiculous. i assume the refs don’t like us because we are more vocal and get on their back. it’s not just the red cards, we’ve barely had any pens.

catchy, there’s also this one – more detail.

Just passing these on in case you missed them, I wouldn’t want you to go to war without a full arsenal at your disposal.

    https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/steven-gerrard-how-master-tactician-15050818

“It’s the only way to progress, not just in Europe. Moving forward, if we have any ideas of being successful it’s important that you defend your goal”

“He helped me become a better player tactically. When Rafa got me, maybe I couldn’t be trusted fully positionally.

“I maybe had too much energy and would lose my slot at an important time. I had too much enthusiasm to go forward and get goals.”

“It was maybe a bit of ego. But individual performances don’t always get you the right result in Europe. It is about the team, the structure, the organisation.”

“Rafa was a master at it and he improved that side of my game massively.”

We gave Chelsea a game at their place a couple of week ago ,tomorrow we will have home advantage , forget the game against Watford there was only ever going to be one result fron that game. My only fear tomorrow is, if an upset looks on the cards , then we can bet that City will get some help from somewhere.

In his first season, Benítez guided the club to victory in the Coppa Italia,
defeating Fiorentina in the final, and into the last 16 of the Europa League,
and Napoli finished third in Serie A to qualify for the next season’s CL.
Napoli tried for ages to get Rafa to extend his two year contract
but he left at the end of it to join his home town team R Madrid

Rafa has been dealt a humiliation and a half by Ashley. Only given the resources to sign players who have made a career in competing around relegation zones. The players we signed in the summer have not improved us and the league table is the evidence. Until Ashley opens the cheque book we can only hope to sign players who take us backwards.
