Almiron Did Not Seek Any Assurances From Rafa

The news late last year that Miguel Almiron was very keen to play for Newcastle United and he didn’t much bother that Newcastle were struggling with relegation.

His agent Daniel Campo attended the home game against Bournemouth that we won 2-1, and he got some very positive about Newcastle United, St. James’ Park, the fans, and the city in general.

Miguel says at that time he knew Newcastle was the club for him.

He also talked with former Newcastle player Diego Gavilan, and he got only positive comments from the Paraguayan.

Diego was brought to Newcastle by Sir Bobby Robson in 2000 and stayed three years and was mostly out on loan during that period: he played 43 times for Paraguay.

We thought Almiron would have asked about what Rafa’s future was before he signed on, but it turns out he didn’t do that.

Here’s what he said in the Chronicle today when asked about Rafa’s future:

“It’s not a topic we’ve discussed; the only things I’ve spoken to him about is me feeling comfortable and settling in quickly so I can bring something to the side.”

“The relegation battle is not something we’re thinking about at the minute; it’s about focusing on the positives.”

“We’re focused together and that will help me to bring what I can to the party.”

“Probably at the end of November towards the end of the MLS season (he knew Newcastle wanted to sign him in January) .”

“But at first I took it lightly and I didn’t want to get caught up in it.”

“I spoke to Diego Gavilan. We wrote to each other and he indicated it is an opportunity that you shouldn’t turn down and you should go for it.”

“Of course I spoke with  my family too but my mind was already made up at that stage, once I knew Newcastle were interested in me.”

“I spoke with my team-mates, my advisers and my agent; they came over here in advance and had a look at the city.”

“They sent back good reports, and I had the same from team-mates at Atlanta, and those reports have been proved true as I’ve had a warm welcome since I arrived here.”

There was news today that the two major candidates for Rafa’s job if he leaves this summer are Brendan Rodgers and David Wagner.

Usually MA gets his bit of Sky PR and comes out with gems like

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley pledges ‘every penny generated’ to Rafa Benitez

    http://www.espn.com/soccer/newcastle-united/story/3497198/newcastle-owner-mike-ashley-pledges-every-penny-generated-to-rafa-benitez

    Or

“We may have the cart, financially, but we now need to bolt the horse on, and we are going to.”

Are we to simply forget everything the guy has said
Like some kind of group amnesia ?

I think you have to look at Huddersfield’s win at
Molineux in late November for an idea of how to
    play Wolves on Monday evening.
    The pivotal things were
A brilliant midfield performance orchestrated by
    Aaron Mooys
    A fortunate early goal
    A real good defensive display
A second goal quarter of an hour from the end
    (both goals from Mooys)
Wolves do struggle against well organised defences
Perhaps introduce Almiron as an impact player versus a tiring Wolves side
Whatever happens it should be an absorbing contest
    between 2 top drawer coaches

Or is Kenyon still looking down the back of his sofa for the money he needs ?

We have been mugged off again this year

How many more years do you think he is going to use the exact same lie ?

Yeah, the squad we have now, with Mitro in place of Joselu, is about where should have have been going into this campaign. Mitro isn’t mobile enough for Rafa though, but we do need to strikers of his and Rondon’s quality.

Even if we had been able to keep Gayle this season over Joselu we would have been in a much better position in my opinion!

Gayle was starting to do well at the end of the season he wasn’t getting as much goals as he should but he was being involved in every game and was getting assists and causing problems for teams, Joselu can sometimes go a whole game without really being involved in an attacking move!

Preferring to hold their breath and hope our new record signing will be enough for everyone to forget everything ?

having different types of players that give the manager options thats no way to run a club who does such things

i am not a gayle fan but the options he gave us its daft letting him go

rondon is beginning to grow on me it will be a shame when he goes back to west brom and we will be back to square 1

I was happy enough to see Gayle moved on. We need a like for like understudy for Rondon. Gayle is very different. Muto is similar and better I think.

    @Beermonkey

Not only that but Joselu will need to get the no 9 shirt next season be like a new signing after pre season…..

One of the many reasons I just can’t see Rafa stay must be soul destroying to have to constantly fight to get players in Rondon should be an easy permanent deal to make yes he is 30 but you only have to watch him play for us to see what a difference having a proper focal point does for our team ! Doesn’t really rely on pace so would be good for another 2 or 3 years before he gets a big Chinese retirement move so we wouldn’t lose money really !!
