Has anyone see this article in Bloomberg about Ashley and NUFC (originally saw the article on the Mag website)?

The interesting bit for me was that of more than 30 deals completed by Sports Direct, only two have been disposals. The one they highlight in the article was the sale of the Dunlop brand to a Japanese company for about £112 million. Apparently, Ashley bought the Dunlop brand for about £40 million.

So, may be this shows that it takes an offer of almost 3 times the original purchase value for Ashley to sell. Therefore, if NUFC was bought for about £134 million it will take an offer of £400 million approx for Ashley to sell. For me, that is unlikely to happen. However, Ashley could be accepting a lower bid (may be about £300-£350 mil) but taking the difference out of the club to make it up to the £400 million.

Anyway, it seems like Ashley wants to be well compensated for letting go of NUFC.

If you had told me, a few months ago, look our best MFs are a kid called longstaff and Hayden, I would’ve said, wow we’re fxxxxx.

You would’ve been right, me wrong.

Congratulations to both. We’ve focused on the former but both deserve mention.

Probably re-establishing the 4321 formation this week, with a practice match at the weekend and the Hudds game to bed in.

Remember last March we went to Murcia for a sunshine
break and played 3 x 45 minutes vs Royal Antwerp ?

The usual moaners whinged about that 1 – 1 draw

Yet we won our next 3 PL games , one against Arsenal
at SJP and another away to Leicester City.

Before Monday Wolves had won their previous 3 games
including 3 – 1 away to Everton – yet we feel disappointed
    at a draw at Molineux.

Rafa must be doing something right

We feel disappointed because it was a last minute equaliser, I think most would have took a draw before the game.

    Martoon, sorry mate, lol.

lovem or hatem, interesting article, not for its content as such but for the fact Ashley is getting negative press on the other side of the pond in a very respected publication.

I wonder who’s responsible for pushing this article and feeding the info to this journo? He seems to focus on the UK sports business market but why us and why now? Is someone in the US trying to turn up the heat on Ashley? After all, it’s not a very flattering portrait being painted so not at all likely to have come from Ashley’s side.

Apparently as part of his club spying
Marcelo Bielsa sends a young Leeds
intern to the next opposing club’s town
to spend the week talking to their fans
    in local pubs and bars.
    What a job !!!!!!!!

I’m tempted to say that Ashley really doesn’t care at all about his image or reputation considering how he’s treated this club and its support. However, a part of me can’t shake the fact that whenever he’s appeared for an interview, he’s defending against his portrayal of himself as the “pantomime villain.”

Therefor, I think he DOES care. And this may be why he is rarely seen at the club. I think the only reason he’s been seen at games recently is because Rafa has pointed out that the only way the team can recover from its dip in form weeks ago, is for the club to appear united from top to bottom, from owner down to manager, players and supporters.

What I can’t get about Ashley is he turns up at games and actually seems to be enjoying it.
Owning a football club has to be more fun than selling jogging bottoms with a 70% discount.

It’s common knowledge that SJH ploated the club
    for a few quid.
NUFC paid for storage which turned out to be in
    Low Walker for Freddy Shepherd
Cameron Hall and Shepherd Offshore both had
huge advertising at SJP as big as anything SD
    and
the fans didn’t give a monkeys
    why?
because although we didn’t win owt we sat at
the top table with the ManU’s LPools etc.
    and most important of all
    WE HAD HOPE

Miggy’s official squad number is 24
    There is no 27
The last 27 was Jesus Gamez
He must have left his kit in Murcia last season.

How’s this for double standards ? Dwight Gayle ( still a Newcastle player ) could face a charge for his alleged dive. .
I think that Gayle was trying to avoid the double player tackle that was coming his way as it could have been quite bad if contact had been made.
Yet Boly who blatantly had his hands in front and on Dubravka gets away scot free and they also receive a point from the match
Where the hell did the 4 minutes added on time come from anyway ? Maybe 2 or 2 + but not 4. and DEFINITELY not almost 5. Maybe as Fergy is no longer they have to give it to someone else. The best payer perhaps !

@Geordie-john – would love it if at the start of every season there was a silent “Fergy Time Auction” – the team that bids the most gets more stoppage time throughout the whole season. Let’s be honest, with Wolves dodgy agent dealings they would be a shoe-in for putting in a good bid for it.

Geordie-john @30 – I think you’re looking at the Dwight Gayle incident though black & white spectacles – whichever way you look at it, it looked like a hell of a dive from Dwight to earn them a penalty.
Re the 4 minutes – I thought it seemed a bit excessive also but when you think about it you normally get 3 minutes at the end for substitutions/goals etc. and I think I can remember at least one injury that was attended to so I guess that’s another minute which makes 4!

On a serious note re miggy’s kit – is that not the job of the kit man? I can understand when he first got here but now that he’s been with us for nearly 2 weeks surely they could have sorted out his training kit by now – surely it’s just a question of getting one his size and putting a number on it! They know the released pictures will be studied by fans and the media – it just looks so amateurish!

From the article you posted: “The profit fall was largely down to his football club, Newcastle United, which saw turnover shrink 30% from £131 million to £91 million as media revenue fell. Newcastle remain up for sale.”

Do you think that is from the books in 2017? I can’t see how profits could have fallen 30% in 2018, unless it includes money Ashley took out of last seasons 130M £ television revenues…?
