The Fans And City Deserve We Are Staying In Premier League

Ayoze Perez is a man in form and Friday night took his goals for the season up to 8 with 7 of them coming in the Premier League.

He is two goals behind Salomon Rondon who hit the crossbar again at Leicester and has 10 goals with 9 goals in the Premier League.

Last season Ayoze was Newcastle’s top goalscorer with 10 goals, and 8 of those were in the Premier League.

So Perez is close to beating his goals of last season – with four matches to play.

Ayoze Perez – speaking to the press

The Leicester result was massive for Newcastle United – we’re almost safe now.

Perez was asked if that was Newcastle’s most important win of the season after the game:

“Definitely, that’s how I feel,”

“That’s what we all feel in the dressing-room as well. We played really good, and credit for the team and the fans and the city.”

“They deserve that we’re staying in the Premier League for another season.”

“It should be enough. We still have four games left to go and other teams have to play each other. We have a tough schedule, but if we play the way we did, hopefully, we can keep climbing.”

“I’m not going to lie to you, it’s been very tough for players such as myself and Miguel Almiron.”

“You have to adapt yourself to what the manager wants. We have had to suffer and stick together and stick to the plan.”

“At the end, we still have quality up front to create chances and that’s our job. You have to suffer like we did against Leicester.”

“That’s what you have to do, otherwise you are going to be even lower in the Premier League and we would have been fighting relegation.”

“We have to stick to the plan, do what the manager wants because he has been in football for many years and he knows what he is talking about.”

“The team has achieved great things,”

“Maybe with another manager we would have struggled even more. That’s what happened in my second season here, we were relegated with a great team.”

“That’s football, anything can happen.”

“Hopefully, I can improve on the number of goals I had last season,” “Hopefully, there is more to come in the four games we have left.”

We have four games left to play, and all are winnable.

Sat 20 Apr Newcastle vs Southampton 5:30pm
Sat 27 Apr Brighton vs Newcastle 5:30pm
Sun 05 May Newcastle vs Liverpool 4:30pm
Sun 12 May Fulham vs Newcastle 3:00pm

12 points from those games – yes, we know it’s unlikely – but it would take us up to 50 points for the season.

We’d take that in a New York second.

Comments welcome.

    Jib,
How about the actual club reporting something positive rather than leaking a story to a preferred journalist. Just a thought.

    sitc,
Do you think bringing any manager in is going to improve our lot, he is not going to back any manager to succeed. Avoid the drop while making money from player sales is all we’re going to get from him.

The Torygraph piece on Ashley makes it clear that he’s a bully and if anyone challenges him or his judgement they’re either liked and trusted, welcomed to his inner circle or alienated and eased out of the door.

Rafa’s made his frustrations clear about the way Ashley’s running the club and we’ve heard not a suggestion of constructive dialogue between the two of them since pizzagate.

Ashley will be treading water, go through the motions of trying to persuade Rafa to stay on until his contract’s up then … and here we go again, same old…

It’s all lined up for us to stop the bin-dippers winning the league. Some say Rafa will roll over! I think nothing would please him more than to beat them! And I couldn’t handle them winning it at SJP!

It’s quite ridiculous that 2 of our teams with CL midweek games have had to play on a Sunday and Arsenal who are away on a Thursday evening having to play the Monday night game!
It shows the power of Sky Sports – you wonder if Sky had the rights to European football rather than BT whether that would be the case?

    Moonraker,
A last minute goal to sink them would be great. I would love it if we beat them.
