In what was a tragic nightmare game for West Brom today after they were leading Aston Villa at Villa Park in the first leg of the Championship playoffs 2-1 after 74 minutes.
That was before two goals in the last 15 minutes gave the home side a crucial victory.
Dwight Gayle had been true to form when he scored after only 16 minutes with a well-hit low shot with his left foot.
It looked as though the Baggies would get a vital away win, but then Hourihane scored after 75 minutes and then Tammy Abraham – on loan from Chelsea – scored a second four minutes later from the penalty spot.
We heard the news yesterday that Rafa Benitez wants to buy Abraham outright this summer if Chelsea sells.
Dwight Gayle – scores beautiful goal to put West Brom 1-0 up after 16 minutes
But tragedy was to hit Baggies in final 15 minutes
To make things worse with two minutes to play, Dwight Gayle was sent off when he picked up his second yellow card and therefore misses the second leg on Thursday.
A draw will take Aston Villa to the playoff final.
And without Gayle, the Baggies will be a weakened side on Thursday night at The Hawthorns.
You can’t make this stuff up!
We feel really sorry for the Baggies fans – but that’s football for you – there will be some tears in their beers tonight – for sure.
If West Brom are not promoted then the transfer fee for Salmon Rondon is said to £16.5M and not the £20M the Baggies will ask – if they are promoted.
So if West Brom are not promoted it increases the chances of Rafa being able to get Rondon in permanently.
Aston Villa were beaten 1-0 last May by Fulham at Wembley in the playoff final: Fulham have since been relegated from the Premier League.
Sunderland will play Portsmouth in the first tie of their playoff later this afternoon at the Stadium of Light.
This may not be popular, but we really hope they can get promoted back to the Championship.
It’s better for Newcastle to have Sunderland in the Premier League – for one thing, it’s 6 easy points for us each season.
🙂

OP
To me it’s not about Jib and/or Toon 22 – some want to see it that way – fine.
JIb posts some interesting stuff and links in my opinion – not always to my taste but the frog just never does.
OK you Tsunki, Average, Jail, Mr Tuff ( again off top of my head) are on his case day in day out and always have been so get on with it I doubt there is any other poster or several added together comes in for as much constant attention.
I think i was one of the first to try to reason with the frog (last October?) after ignoring his repetitive troll nonsense but became frustrated with his calling of other (genuine) regular posters without offering any evidence in support of his claims.
Others have more regularly called him out and generally i leave it at that. Today it was Tsunki’s rather lame defence of him that caused me to comment then your own post. Enough is enough I have politely responded as addressed but really dont want to waste more time on discussing the frog – or Jib and Munster come to that
?
When I am on Blog and offended by Jib in real time I have posted my viewpoint and will continue to do so. I don’t come on regular these days but it isn’t Jib and Munster that deter me after all they have both posted for years.
For the frog apologists I believe and have always done so that ;-
– Rafa should and will stay
– He should have more control ( but not necessarily total) on transfers
– I don’t know what to make of supposed takeover news but just as with transfer links will believe it when new owner is photographed at SJP
– Ashley should go but won’t until he’s ready
I need no “Hiya’s” to correct my thinking or out me as a shill simply because I don’t measure up to the frog’s puerile tests of what is paid propaganda

Comment #3Pretty tight at the top of the inaugural Ed Harrison Fantasy Football League. Looks like the top five of Matt, Arthur (my eldest lad), Brian, Joe and Nick could end up winning it, although a crazy score from someone outside the top five could steal it. I hope the winner makes himself known after the league is adjusted for the final points total tomorrow night 🙂

Really Ed? How long ago was it we managed the 6 points ;-(
Stay where they are for me – at least for a few years!!
Don’t really want any of the 4 teams in Championship play offs to come up – for different reasons but may be Derby if had a choice?

Comment #5Can anyone tell me how investment in Sunderland FC seems easily attained and we cannot sell our beautiful club to decent new owners, I believe there is one reason the FCB.

Ed reckons there’s been a formal approach for Oudin and suggests that Rafa’s behind it. Can we be sure that it’s:
* nowt more than spin to reflect attention away from Rafa’s situation?
* been made at Rafa’s request?
* a return to signings made whether the manager likes a player or not?
I can’t see a serious bid going in until they’ve got a manager signed up.

You’re correct when you say yoi doubt there is any other poster or several added together comes in for as much constant attention as Jib and his aliases. That’s the point of his/ their existence on here – he’s a narcissist and thrives on the reaction he/ they get.
