Halftime Report – Shelvey And Perez On Target For Brilliant Start

What a wonderful first half for the Magpies at Craven Cottage in a match attended by both Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley.

Jonjo Shelvey – scored his first goal of the year

It was all Fulham in the opening minutes as they had a flurry of crosses including three in the fifth minute.  All were either too high or well handled by the Newcastle defense.

A steal by Ayoze Perez changed Newcastle’s fortunes in the seventh minute.  Though he couldn’t get it forward, Newcastle recycled the ball through defense and started to attack.

A long ball to Ritchie from Fabian Schar led to what looked like a foul on Ritchie.  The referee waved it away as Newcastle regained possession.

A pass from the back put Ritchie through on the left and a whipped in cross was too much for Atsu to get his head on.

However, the resulting Matt Ritchie corner went straight to Jonjo Shelvey who had a superb half volley from just inside the box.  What a goal for Shelvey.  He sprinted to the Newcastle fans.  He seems to love it at the Toon.

And would you believe it, just a few minutes later Ayoze Perez scored another great goal for Newcastle.  Christian Atsu was through and Sergio Rico could not handle the shot.  The shot ricocheted and Perez was there to slot the ball away.

Ayoze Perez – we must keep Ayoze

What a start for the lads!

Fulham would come back into the game a bit with a few half chances.  Callum Chambers had a shot trickle wide at 16 minutes while Aleksandar Mitrovic missed a very good chance when his header glanced wide at 22 minutes.

Newcastle’s defense was set up superbly again and handled anything Fulham threw at the boys.

Some excellent tackles would stifle the Fulham comeback attempt.  Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Shar, and Paul Dummett all had superb interventions to prevent Fulham getting attempts on goal.

Rondon had a good chance at 40 minutes but pulled the shot wide from a Dupravka punt handled excellently by Perez who passed it to Rondon.

The Geordies at Craven Cottage were again a credit to this club.  Singing about Rafa and Rondon.  And I suspect Ashley as well (though likely not with the same adoration) as once the camera panned on the Newcastle owner while displaying a sheepish grin.

Let’s keep this lead and end this season on high.

I liked Mitrovic when he was here but you can see why Rondon was preferred over him hes miles better in every way!

Fulham play some nice neat football going forward but it doesn’t really go anywhere and then they can’t defend either so you can see how they were relegated so easily!

Would be crazy to sell Shelvey just to get rid of his wages. He could easily work his way back into being a starter in mf especially if Longstaff has second season blues

Rafa proven to be completely right about Mitro, there’s a reason he gets paid millions a season whilst some just sit sniping on the couch scratching their balls.

I loved Mitrovic but I cannot argue that Rondon has been better. Rondon is the archetypal striker, a forward that can actually strike the ball. Best finisher since Ba was at the club. Shame we cannot get too attached to Rondon as this could be his last game.

Yes I like how suddenly our last relegation was because of a 20/21 year old striker.

Just enjoy the game instead of rewriting history.

Manure losing at home to Cardiff. I wonder how many games Solskjaer will last next season. Manure are plummeting as a team – who’d want to join them other than purely for the big wages

ben.g, from previous thread. Yes, reddit keeps pulling the football stream subreddits, although there is usually a new one goes up as quick as they get taken down.

Can see why we were interested in Cairney always involved and very creative just maybe not worth the 20 million figures getting quoted!

If we could get a few more pacy players coupled with the best of our team we could be a real danger

Good ol’ Ole is going to be a disaster for Man U next season. Won’t see the end of 2019 and will have burned through £100m+ no doubt. Should realise their mistake now, but they won’t.

How they could be so naive to think just because he has links to the glory era he would be any good for them I don;t know. Irrational given his managerial record up to that point.

Odds on Rafa subs Rondon 5 minutes before the end…just to prove a point to the Fat Controller…and give the Toon Army a chance to show our appreciation. Rondon has been phenomenal this season!
