Salomon Rondon is our Player of the Season for the Premier League season 2018-2019, and it’s the first time on the blog that a player on loan for the season at Newcastle has won the award.
Salmon was signed late in the summer becasue Ashley dragged his feet and West Brom wanted Dwight Gayle in a loan exchange.
And so when he arrived, he wasn’t really match-fit and picked up some niggling injuries at the start, but once he started to play regularly everybody could see why Rafa Benitez wanted this man.
He scored 11 PL goals for Newcastle and 12 in total (2 headers, 6 with his right foot, 4 with his left foot) and is one goal behind Ayoze Perez in the goalscoring charts.
Salomon Rondon – our Player of the Season for 2018-2019
But he also had 7 assists so had a hand in 19 of Newcastle’s goals this season.
Sign him up!!
He’s a bargain at just £16.5M.
Second in the voting was Fabian Scher who had a terrific first season on Tyneside, and for just £3M the Swiss International was one of Rafa’s best buys last summer – he’s also third top goalscorer with 4 goals.
Fabian got 25% of the vote and then in 3rd place is Ayoze Perez with 15% of the vote.
The Spanish U21 International scored 13 goals for us this season, 12 in the Premier League – and it was Ayoze’s best season ever at Newcastle since he signed for us for €2M from Tenerife back in 2014.
Rafa has made him into some player.
It was a successful season for Newcastle in that we survived in the Premier League, but Mike Ashley will have to raise his standards from now on and support manager Rafa Benitez with significant transfer funds.
The first thing Ashley has to do is sign Rafa up to at least three more years – and he has to do that quickly – like this week!
Here are our the top 9 finishers in the poll – other players in the poll had 0% and have been deleted.
Here are the Players of the Season on our blog over the last 12 years – it’s been a long time.
Games | Won | Draw | Lost | GF | GA | GD | Points | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
S. Bruce | 8 | 0 | 3 | 5 | 10 | 19 | -9 | 3 |

Comment #42The rumour mill is definitely less frenetic than previous windows.
The poor journos have the FA cup Europa League and
CL finals to occupy them – no time to make shit up.

Anyone can have a look at these stats by sky sports. Interactive so you go through yourself and there’s quite a lot to go through and take in. Quite good actually.

Comment #48Interesting. Good move for him and for spurs, he’ll be in England after 2 games. Don’t see them wanting to pay £20m like.

Comment #49We’ll likely get the Villa Leeds rematch! That’ll be intriguing after the last match they had recently.

Comment #50martoon, I wonder if Dr Ed would be happy to collaborate on it?
ie, you do the work of collating all the details from everyone, then Ed publishes the results in an article for you in a nice table.
Worth asking the question, maybe?

I know but it’s onky this season where it is not seen as a pants down moment. Reckon the way levy is, he won’t want to get mugged off.
However he has had a solid second half of season, is English so he’ll have suitors. £20m shouldn’t really be a problem.

Comment #59I think I was the only person who was tipping Hayden for England last summer. although my opinion of the England midfield last summer wasn’t very high.

If he’s leaving to get games his attitude is much better than Colback’s and should be applauded.i’ll repeat what i said about him a while ago. it’s his first season in EPL so he has some improvement to make and he’s exceptionally young for a DM, a position that needs to use game intelliegence etc which comes with age. if he does improve he has all the hallmarks of an England midfielder. i can’t see why he can’t overtake Livermore and Delph etc. If he can improve his backwards passing Southgate will call him up. Good luck.

I’m 100% sure Biesla will do well, he’s one of the best managers in the world and has been for a long time. Almost every time we had a manager change he’s been one of my top suggestions. If Benitez does go, we should go all out to get him. I like how he doesn’t just take on easy jobs so we would be ideal for him and I like how he gives young players a chance. He’s very similar to Pochetino in this regard as well as for tactics.

Comment #61Looking at that table, we would have been fcuked without Rondon and Perez, whoever’s in charge next season needs to sort out our midfield, in terms of goals scored, that is shocking.
