The Black Cats held Portsmouth 0-0 on the south coast at Fratton Park last night and won the two-legged playoff tie 1-0 through a solitary goal from Chris Maguire’s at the Stadium of Light last weekend.
So Sunderland are now just one game away from coming straight back to the Championship for next year.
Another year down in League One would be crippling to their finances – which cannot be too healthy, to begin with.
Jack Ross – Sunderland manager – seems happy enough
Is that gin he’s drinking?
The Sunderland defense was solid, and Portsmouth were unable to find the goal they need to tie the series.
Our neighbors will now play either Charlton Athletic or Doncaster Rovers at Wembley on May 26 to see if they can make it back to the Championship.
We hope they can do that.
Comments welcome.

Comment #3Personally I want Charlton to do it, seeing as My Mam’s cousin the ex player, coach and now a director there, but is Ed not saying that because he would eventually like derby again, I know I would?

Comment #6It doesn’t take a genius to find out you put stuff on here straight after googling it, kind of cheating don’t you think.

Comment #7If you analyse that story in the echo it’s all based on previous information. Nothing actually new from the meeting just guesswork.
