It’s getting to be a little bit ridiculous that Newcastle United are spending this amount of time in signing up Rafa Benitez to a new contract at Newcastle.
Let’s just say it does not reflect well on the hierarchy running the club – and we will move on.
30-year-old goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has been interviewed in the Chronicle today, and he has been thankful he played in most of the games last season.
In fact, he played in all of the 38 Premier League games and has a total of 50 appearances (all starts) for Newcastle United.
The 17 times capped Slovakian International goalkeeper has had a good 16 months playing for Newcastle and looks a top goalkeeper.
Martin had a lapse in his form at the beginning of the year when he made a few mistakes.
But his strong character and determination showed through and with help from the boss he quickly recovered and had a great last four months of the season.
Rafa Benitez talking to Martin Dubravka after Burnley game
This is what he said in the Chronicle today when asked about his relationship with Mr. Benitez:
“I am very happy that I have played in most of the games.” “I really appreciate it.
“Obviously I came to England as an unknown player and I’m trying to build my reputation here.”
“I am glad for that.”
“It is a big stat (being 9th in PL since last Xmas).”
“Good stats will be helpful for us going forward and looking ahead to next season as well.”
“Let’s just go into next season and get as many points as possible.”
There have been reported early this summer that Rafa is interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who has 3 caps for Germany.
Rafa may think Dubravka needs more competition to keep him on his toes in the Newcastle goal.
We think Kevin would be a good buy for Newcastle – he’s an outstanding goalkeeper.
Comments welcome.

Get as many points as possible? Well thats novel and an interesting take on the league. Sign the keeper up to Mensa? What a thoughtful guy.

Maybe mate,But at least they made a final and didn’t go out of the competition in the first round as we seem to do every year.
And fair play to the fans for sticking by the fans

Comment #18Well done to Man City – sponsored by an Arab state, spent the most money, pay the biggest wages, won the most trophies. Such an elusive equation to come up with. Financial fair play? Do me a favour. In football money is the only real currency for success. I know some will quote Leicester but let’s be honest my point is not sour grapes but without ownership willing to invest it’s a waste of time.

Mike went ballistic when Rafa turned up with snacks from Waitrose.
“Do you think I’m made of money? And what’s this tortilla shit?”
“We must do things right.”
“What’s wrong with Aldi sausage rolls?”
“You promised me a budget for paella.”
“No, I said ‘get some pies, fella’.”

I think we all know that is highly unlikely mate.
Let’s face it, we have the worst type of owner possible. To make matters worse – he ain’t going anywhere soon.
Unfortunately.

Wichita Lineman
Glen Campbell
I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searchin’ in the sun for another overload
I hear you singin’ in the wire,
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line
I know I need a small vacation
But it don’t look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south won’t ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line
And I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

Glen Campbell
Galveston, oh, Galveston,
I still hear your seawinds blowing;
I still see her dark eyes glowing.
She was twenty one, when I left Galveston.
Galveston, oh, Galveston,
I still hear your seawaves crashin,
while I watch the cannons flashin’.
I clean my gun, and dream of Galveston.
I still see her standing by the water,
Standing there looking out to sea.
And is she waiting there for me,
On the beach where we used to run?
Galveston, oh!
Galveston, I am so afraid of dying,
Before I dry the tears she’s crying,
Before I watch your sea birds flying in the sun, at Galveston, at Galveston

Comment #39Re Wichita Lineman, I always thought it was about telephone lines, cos in the 60s it was all analogue technology and a lineman could “plug into” a call.
I used to work for GPT/Plessey and Cisco btw. Whether it’s a WAN, LAN or WLAN, is somewhat academic these days, it’s still point a communicating with point b, whether a and b are nodes, laptops, people, mobiles etc. It’s still a network.
And with that I’m off to sleep, 11pm and work tomorrow.
