In what the Chronicle is calling an exclusive today they have interviewed Ayoze Perez.
The Spanish striker has prospered so much playing with Salomon Rondon last season and for a short time with Newcastle’s record signing Miguel Almiron earlier this year.
Perez was on fire at the end of the season and scored six goals in his last five matches to end up with 13 goals for the season with 12 of those being in the Premier League.
Rondon scored 12 goals with 11 of those being in the Premier League.
Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez – what a great shot of the two strikers
This is what the 25-year-old has said about his partnership with Rondon,
“We’ve got an amazing relationship.” “If he gets the chance to give me a goal, he’ll do it.”
“And it’s the same the other way around.” “The main thing is to win matches and it means a lot.”
“At the end of the day, I have the mind of a striker.” “I came here as a striker as I was No 9 for my old team Tenerife.”
“And you grow up having that in your mind.” “You know the movements and you live your life in the penalty area.”
“I always try to get into good positions.”
“I’m always looking to cash in on a little deflection or trying to get into the box for the second ball.”
“They are the things that make a difference.” “You have to get in there to have the chance.”
“I always have that in mind.””I used to be a striker and that’s why I am how I am.”
Perez has unfortunately missed out on the latest Spanish squad for their Euro qualifier games against the Faroe Isles and Sweden this summer.
But it’s possible if he stays at Newcastle and keeps improving under Rafa then he will make the Spanish squad.
He has the skill, ambition, and work ethic to become a top striker in the game – and remember he’s still only 25.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Has rafa left yet? Ayoze is a good squad player. Need another almiron like player to compete with him.
Hopefully our new manager Tony Pulis can find that player.

Comment #3I’ve always liked Perez and defended him on here while admitting he can be frustrating BUT with the best will in the world I don’t think he’s good enough to get in that Spanish squad!

Comment #8Looking at his user name I decided to check out season 87/88
Manager Willie McFaul we finished 8th (Liverpool were champs)
Some surprising teams played the 1st division
QPR
Coventry
Oxford
Nottingham
Norwich
Luton
Portsmouth
Wimbledon
Derby
Charlton
In those days 4 teams went down – the 4th bottom team involved in
a play off with one of the second divisions top teams
Chelsea were relegated after a play-off wit Boro who were 3rd in the
2nd division.
McFaul sold Beardsley to LPool at the beginning of the season and
brought in Mirandinha – the stand out player for the season was
Paul Gascoigne

Comment #10To be fair, I’m not sure Perez has ever talked about inclusion in the Spain squad. I think Rafa may have mentioned it and folk on here too, in the last 6 weeks. Other than that, his National team has never been a distraction.
His form at the end of the season was good enough to warrant a serious consideration. Just checked and he finished 33rd in the Sky Sports Power Rankings, our highest ranked player over the season. That’s after a very slow start to the season, too.
He needs to show that form consistently, which is why he needs at least one more season at NUFC in settled surroundings with Rafa, who knows him and his game inside and out. Once he has that consistency under his belt, he’s potentially a World beater.

Comment #15Up late last night watching the finale of GOT, so I can now get my life back. 🙂
A lot of threads left hanging and whats the odds for Arya getting her own series.
Also watched Gwendoline Christie on the Graham Norton show last night, isn’t she stunningly beautiful.
Also on was Sam Fender, never heard of him before but a top musician from North Shields, loved his music but is he a Toon fan, surely he is?

The media arm of the political elite otherwise known as the BBC were not giving Nigel Farage much air time.
Until he was covered in milk.
Great move on his part.
He’s probably gone up 5% in the polls.
***********************************************
Read the above. I don’t think anyone can conclude from this that I support Nigel Farage.
You can assume that I don’t like the BBC. A body that is clearly biased and is run by and for a Liberal Elite.
I am against the so called light touch government we have had in this country for over 40 years.
Tories and Labour. So light touch it exposed the people of this country to market forces and did not put them first.
So light touch you could argue they were not worth having at all.
I’m not sure what is best as far as Brexit goes.
The bigger problem is the country is divided. I can’t see an immediate solution to that.

Comment #21Bill, I mentioned before I saw Sam Fender a couple of times at the buskers night at the Tynemouth Surf Cafe, which is fast becoming one of the most important showcase venues for new musical talent in the North East, despite being tiny.
I spoke to him once, he’s a quiet lad but very talented. Most acts there play cover versions, but he mostly did his own music and deserves his success.

Comment #38Whatever anyone thinks about Brighton’s handling of Hughton they have acted swiftly. 1) They gave Chris the bullet. 2) They have appointed a new manager. This is in about the same time frame that our club has, up to now, failed to agree a deal with our incumbent manager. Useless.
The longer this goes on without any resolution the more likely Rafa will be gone.
It’s my view that the club is running down his contract and they will say that; He wasn’t sacked and he did not accept the deal on the table.

Comment #40Jib I am sure that season we had Paul Goddard playing for us, an often forgotten about striker for us the previous season his goals dragged us out of the relegation places, I think he left for Derby at the end of the 87/88 season
