Report From France – Rafa In Bid To Sign Talented Young Winger

19-year-old Monaco attacking midfielder Mehdi Zerkane is in talks with Newcastle about potentially joining us in the summer.

We assume some of the transfers Rafa wants in this window are proceeding even though the manager has not yet agreed to sign a new deal for owner Mike Ashley – not yet anyway.

This will be a big summer in the transfer window for Newcastle with Rafa wanting as many as six senior players coming in, and several first team players will be sold who are no longer part of Rafa’s plans on Tyneside.

It could be the biggest transfer window in Mike Ashley’s 12 years at the club.

French daily L’Equipe reports that Zerkane is out of contract this summer having joined the Monaco Academy in the summer of 2013 when he was only 14 years old.

Rafa is reported as keen to sign the French youngster.

With such a talented young winger available other clubs are also interested in the 6ft tall midfielder who is left-footed but usually plays on the right wing.

We were first linked with this player earlier this month.

It’s good news if Newcastle are indeed going ahead and trying to sign some of Rafa’s summer targets – including the younger ones like Zerkane.

Otherwise, we could fall behind in this summer transfer window with other Premier League clubs already active in trying to sign players.

Zerkane was born in Clermont-Ferrand, France and has never played for the Monaco first team, but is well regarded in France and has played regularly for the Monaco U19 side.

Two Ligue 1 clubs are also said to be interested in signing him – but who they are we don’t know.

If Newcastle sign Zerkane, it will be interesting to see f he is part of the U23 squad or goes straight into Rafa’s first team squad for next season.

What do you think about this?

Comments welcome.

We’re being linked to half a dozen players a day
    It’s getting ridiculous
We do need an attacking midfielder though
As things stand we have zero players who naturally fit into the number 10 role
Almiron was supposed to be a number 10 but he clearly isn’t
He is more of a wife forward

I wonder if this is likely to be a target of the new Academy Director Ben Dawson, rather than Rafa?

I would imagine he’ll go straight into the development squad, rather than being included in the first team. Could be wrong, however.

I’m also unsure if Ben Dawson is responsible for U23 recruitment, but it seems likely that he is.

The Leif Davis story earlier although only a mention.

Newcastle lad, yes another one that fell through the cracks, supports the Black and White, so why are we not going in for him?

There’s a report, well read it.

Liverpool have checked out Leeds’ 19-year-old whizkid left-back Leif Davis.

Good enough for Liverpool to sniff around so why not good enough for Newcastle, come on Newcastle you see how Sean plays for his in the blood club so why not Leif.

Elsewhere the photos of the alleged new home strip are doing the rounds again.
Puma designers (doodlers) have left the building or its just another attempted sad wind up from some lonely source on Wearside.
Black back with two broad white bands ( not stripes ) on front .
Kak is a good word for all concerned.
