There is a report in the Portuguese outlet OJogo that Newcastle is tracking Greek international goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. Vlachodimos had a tremendous debut campaign for the Portuguese champions this past season.
Odysseas Vlachodimos– in demand Benfica goalkeeper
Odysseas Vlachodimos joined Benfica last summer in a €2.4M move from Greek club Panathinaikos. He made 50 appearances for the Lisbon club and kept 15 clean sheets in total.
Newcastle, as well as many other clubs, were linked to the shot-stopper in September. According to the reports from last year, clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester United, and Arsenal were interested in him.
Vlachodimos is a German-born Greek international who has 3 caps for Greece. He came through the academy at Stuttgart, his place of birth, before joining Panathinaikos on a free transfer two summers ago.
This past season has seen the twenty-five-year-old blossom into a top goalkeeper. His transfer fee is believed to be £13.2M.
The futures of Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow, and Freddie Woodman still linger in uncertainty. All three have just a year remaining on their contracts.
There is a recent report in the Chronicle that Freddie Woodman is none too pleased with not being loaned out this past season. So it is highly plausible that he will see out the remainder of his contract and leave Newcastle next summer on a free transfer.
We would hope that his Newcastle career can still be salvaged but the club did not handle the youngster properly and could pay the price.
Odysseas Vlachodimos is exactly the type of promising goalkeeper we should be tracking this summer. We also like the look of Walter Benitez the Nice keeper we were linked with last week.
While Martin Dubravka is the clear number one, he needs to have competition for his place. We’ll see if Rafa can bring Odysseas to Newcastle.

i would think it would take alot of investment before we fall fowl of ffp
if you think with new owners advertising will be paid for
money from merchandising and what gets spent in the stadium
plus i would imagine there will be some new sponsors as well

Even better we get to spend more.
Maybe ashley has done us a favour.
Say if we had 5 years of excessive spending before ffp came sniffing normally.
12 years of ashley maybe gives us 20 years pf free spending.
Just going to sit back now and wait for toon dominance of the world.

Comment #10I would take a spurs or dortmund model. For progressing the club. Would love it if the toon became world class for developing top players. Giving the young ones real hope of actually making it maybe not at the toon but making it.
I would love for the toon to be electric in attack once more.
The addition of almirion has improved us dramatically
Adding a purple in each position would make us top 6.
Having a squad full i can only dream.(hopefully not for to much longer).

Comment #12Yeah, the club so often trotted out FFP to justify the lack of investment. Massively galling of course considering the owner didn’t pay for advertising for over ten years and has essentially done nothing at all to increase any other revenue streams, and relatively speaking diminished them markedly with his negligence. We got the failed under 25’s policy instead. Ah, but perhaps all that will soon be behind us.

Rafa has been rather enigmatic for some time now so I’m pretty sure he’s been in the loop!
5 Planes at Newcastle airport, now if one of them is the Sheikh and his team, could the other 4 been part of the price Ashlie is asking for.
Any one got any thoughts of what could be in those planes?

Comment #21@GS: Honestly, we don’t need to mate. Type this into Google:
site:nufcblog.com intext:”GeordieTwo”
There you go. That’s everything G2 has posted, every reference to his handle. Coincidentally this is what Jib uses to bludgeon people with when it turns out that he was right, and it was the trumpet Solano played and not the Saxophone*.
That said – and I’m glad you asked – my favourite post from G2 involves pink thongs.
I also learned G2 has been here since 2014, and even with my rudimentary understanding of mathematics and statistics, can fathom that in all that time, with all those posts, he has said something that was worthwhile. From personal experience I have absolutely had great discussions with G2 on many an occasion. Yes, he can be a bit annoying with his “harrumph” at times that do not sufficiently call for a good old “harrumph”, but that’s just part of what makes him an old hand posting rubbish on the internet like the rest of us.
Plus it’s getting really dull: we’re all in takeover mode! Come back to us with some data and we might consider presenting it to Ed (with Jib and Jail as representatives for their respective sides) to analyse, and lead a healthy “town hall” like debate.
To summarise: less natter, more patter.
*Not an actual conversation. Any similarities to an existing conversation with any aforementioned parties or topics are entirely coincidental.

Just seems a bit out of the blue but not?
As if maybe waiting for prem safety was the catalyst to the sale coming to fruition.
Maybe the sustained pressure did work.

Comment #37Don’t know anything about this keeper but I agree about woodman, came up the other night and I gave my take on his situation. He’s just going to ride out the last year of his contract and leave after that and I don’t blame him. Shame.
This keeper though, if he’s good bring him in. Always need 2 keepers competing and ready to come in. Woodman I like but very inexperienced in league games. Darlow I don’t have confidence in. Will keep dubravka on his toes at least and who knows, if he gets injured we need someone ready made to come in.
