This Could Be The Biggest Mess Ashley Has Ever Created at Newcastle

This may well be the biggest mess Mike Ashley has put Newcastle in during his ill-advised tenure of 12 years as the Newcastle owner.

And that saying something because the owner has managed to put Newcastle in a stranglehold in too many transfer windows.

The Rafa Benitez saga on his new contract is still not concluded – where he will stay or fo, and it doesn’t look like he got much out of Mike Ashley with the process for transfers not being changed much at all according to the Chronicle today.

Mike Ashley, Sheikh Khaled, and Rafa Benitez

Communication was never one of Ashley’s greatest strength, but he’s managed to end up with the current situation:

  • We don’t know if we are to be taken over by Sheikh Khaled
  • According to the local Chronicle, Ashley is still waiting for an official offer from the Sheikh
  • We don’t know the results of the almost endless communication on Rafa’s new contract
  • We don’t know if Rafa will stay on as manager and he has only 21 days left on his contract
  • The transfer window has been open for a month now, and we have done nothing in it – absolutely nothing

According to the Chronicle today, Mike Ashley has not budged on the transfer process, and Rafa will still need to go to the owner to get permission to buy a player.

That’s what has made things so agonizingly slow in our recruitment of players when it sometimes takes months to buy a player.

And the Chronicle are also reporting today that Rafa will need to sell before he can buy this summer.

But that seems strange to us given that Rafa is reported to have £61M in cash to spend in this coming season’s two transfer windows.

That’s always assuming this mess can be cleared up before August 8th when the window closes.

I say that only in part jest.

Mike Ashley was reported to have met with Rafa in London on Thursday, May 16th and it’s now 24 days later, and we have heard absolutely nothing about the talks from the club.

It’s now two weeks since the news broke that Sheikh Khaled was reported to be acquiring Newcastle and nothing from the club.

Why did somebody not tell Mike Ashley that when you treat your customers like dirt – in this case, the Newcastle fans – you are very unlikely to be successful?

And the customers will not become exactly warm to you.

That’s something Mike Ashley did not learn in management, and when you also have zero leadership skills to go with a distinct lack of management skills, things become complicated and confusing very quickly.

Nobody knows what’s going on.

And we’ve seen that happen with Mike Ashley again and again over 12 years where he’s proved that he’s simply an atrocious owner.

Comments welcome.

No to Mourinho. He will split the fans right down the middle with his antics and he will fall out with many major players and throw them under the bus if results do not go his way.

Rafa must be given the job along with the oil money.

Rafa must stay. He will build a team and build the club from the ground up.

Like transfer speculation I don’t think there is any serious information in stories about Mourinho.

However I have mentioned previously that new owners do sometimes have a grand plan in mind on taking over so who knows as Rafa will be out of contract.

Most seem to think Rafa was a big part of the attraction and surely he is. Having said that I expect some form of DOF or similar to be brought in (certainly not Wise!) so maybe there is scope for a difference of direction between manager and owner. They surely have done their homework on more than finances and I would think it Rafa’s ‘s to lose for now.

Not going to worry about it .

If Rafa has been given some assurances by new owners which are legally binding then he won’t sign a new contract with Ashley as he’s waiting to sign a new contract with the new owners. The legal boys and girls will be advising the best way forward.

    No negative vibes Moriaty

    Come on everyone – think!

This whole episode absolutely proves there are NO genuine ITK’s – nobody outside any (so far assumed) deal has any idea what negotiations and agreements have taken place. There have been announcements and a company formation and a few signs skipped but beyond that until the formal installation of new owners occur we know very little, meanwhile the ITK’s are scrambling with their best guesses to stick their pin on the kudos board – a bit like fantasy football. It’s all good to hear rumour and supposition, thats what we are here for. But don’t hang on every word of those who say “definitely going to happen” and give out deadlines and dates because that’s just suspiciously planted tosh.

We can do nothing but suppose, guess and wait, torture though it is.

I think this could be Rafa’s last quiet day for a while.

Sunday with the family and the dogs just chillin’

    Then next week

    New owners
    New contract
    New players

The Euro qualifiers end tomorrow until September
and players will start talking to new clubs.

By having their journalists on different pages – literally and figuratively – the Chronicle are both creating and adding to the confusion. Is this deliberate? Conflicting stories mean more clicks?

If the club is being sold, why would it matter if Ashley has the final say on transfer prices? Can all at The Mirror Group, including The Chroincle, just decide if there is a sale or not and stop pumping out contradictory stories.

I agree with Hibbit and Online Guy, sure they will want to keep Rafa for continuity if nothing else straight after the takeover, and of course they will see that was the best thing to do anyway. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see Charnley stay until at least the end of the year. They may think someone who ‘knows’ how the club works internally will be needed while they sort other things. Of course we all know how useless he is, they will see the same in time but may want to keep him for a bit. Mind you never know, he does everything Ashley asks of him, no doubt just a big suck up, so will do the same for them, then when they put somebody football related into his post, he might go back to a finance role

DKelly9: Ryder is acting like there is no sale and the others like it is almost there, except for their contradictions about whether and when fit and proper papers were submitted to the League. It is really annoying and frustrating.

I don’t think the Mourinho link is anything other than press rubbish. I’d also rather not have him as he’s become a bitter and miserable caricature of his former self. The one positive to take from this (assuming it wasn’t total BS) is that it would mean we would be loaded as Jose has made a career of following the money clubs.

It’s obvious to me that the local rags are being fed snippets by the club’s PR team to play down the takeover and create more frustration amongst the fans. Then when the deal is announced Fatty will be heralded as the hero and saviour who has painstakingly chosen the perfect buyer who will take the club forward to the next level, carry on his good work blah blah blah.

Is takeover talk fake or real?

    BZG have made two statements confirming the rumours;

    That isn’t fake it’s a fact – therefore BZG are either;

    a) telling the truth
    b) lying through their back teeth without Ashley’s consent
    c) in collusion with Ashley to give him an excuse to run down Rafa’s contract, get rid and delay transfer biz.

I’ll leave to sensible fans to decide which is more likely.

Bit like buying a house. Money goes to solicitors who will gladly leave it sitting in there bank collecting daily interest lol. How much is £350 million worth on daily interest.
It looks like Ryder and co are peddling fake news or no source stories for clicks.
NDA means non disclosure od any information relating to the deal so Lee Ryder amd co have nothing hence the meaningless self publicised guesswork of negative BS.

    Bills son

If there have been discussions between Ashley’s lot and BZG, and I believe there have, then Ashley’ll drag them out as long as he can.

If Heads of Terms have agreed a basic price of say £350m, and if Ashley then decides to put his free advertising/ SD merchandising extras on the table and BZG walk away, Ashley’s left with the club he supposedly wants to sell.

As far as he’s concerned, he’ll have lost Rafa who’s a thorn in Ashley’s side, replaced him with a two bit replacement who’ll be given some promises, do as he’s told, let a few of our unsettled top players go, spend little or nothing on replacements and bingo, another successful window. Throw some funds at buying to try to avoid the annual relegation threat and there we have it – another successful year under Ashley.

    Or, hopefully not.
