Salomon Rondon does not know what his future holds until Rafa Benitez decides whether to stay at Newcastle before his contract runs out at the end of the month.
If Rafa leaves then it’s doubtful Mike Ashley will pay £16.5M for a striker who turns 30 in September.
That’s even though the number 9 scored 12 goals for us last season and was our Player of the Season on loan from West Brom – in spite of missing the first few months of the season as he had to get match-fit – because had taken months to sign him.
Only money matters toMike Ashley – not what happens on the pitch.
Salomon scored two early goals in Venezuela’s 3-0 win against the USA last night in Cincinnati, and he became his country’s top scorer.
Salomon Rondon – after breaking Venezuela’s goalscoring record last night
Rondon is now the highest scorer in Venezuelan history with 24 goals and has overtaken Juan Arango’s 22 goals.

Well done big man. Proud of you having played our club. All the best.

We currently have an average team, not poor. Quality defense, very poor offense before Rondon started playing and Almiron signed. Playing with 5 at the back is not needed and limits the offense too. We’ll have a top team if we keep the core and bring top 6-7 players #NUFC
— Leuz Dolla (@Asallsince1993) June 9, 2019
Disagree. This team team can play better football if we setup differently than this season. Id pay the fee for Rondon because he can still be good at 34 with this skillset, his hold-up play makes him key regardless of the the gameplan, he’ll be much better in a better team #nufc

Jib link to Man City fan advice- interesting but of course we already are well aware of negative press most of time. On their support seem to remember though that they did have decent crowds even in old Div 3 and after title success in 1968(?) and having to endure most years in long shadow of Man Utd retained a good core support. Difference between them and Liverpool suporters back in day though after FA cup final in 74 plenty of ‘Pool fans in pubs drinking with us but after 76 League cup final many Man City supporters seemed to be headed home whilst we again drowned our sorrows.
On McClaren I doubted him but and never wanted him but as with all managers i give him benefit of the doubt – didn’t last long.
Many did try to back him even ED was hopeful – from the article he referenced couple threads back viz:-
———————
“Those are good words from both Steve McClaren and Lee Charnley and there is definite follow-through on what Mike Ashley said to Sky Sports an hour before the final game of the season, when he said he wanted to win a trophy.
This is a big change at Newcastle.
It seems like Steve’ backroom staff is still being sorted out, but it should be very good one, and we really hope that Steve and his coaches can get the very best out of the players we already have – they are much better than they showed this year in those final 20 games of the season.
This does seem like a new beginning at Newcastle, but it couldn’t have been much worse in that second of the season when we nearly took the drop.
With McClaren said to be an excellent coach and no doubt putting together a top class coaching team for Newcastle, it looks like we will make a real effort to win something next season, and we are aiming for a top eight finish – none of this top ten nonsense any longer.
That in itself shows a new ambition at the club that we are targeting top eight.
We still need to hear what Steve’s coaching team will be, and we expect Steve to now be hard at work with Lee and Graham Carr getting some good players through the door.
Let’s hope this really is a new era beginning at Newcastle, where at least the club now acknowledges it wants to win something.
That’s a big change in itself.”

It’s from today – there’s news about JonJoe Kenny signing for Schalke at the bottom.
Best result: He’s here for the announcement of the Sheikhover and his new contract
Worst Result: He’s here to clear out his stuff
Most likely result: He’s back to work to get some signings in.

Comment #44As time passes, I’m beginning to doubt whether the takeover’ll go through.
Whilst not questioning any insights from the likes of DubaiM, Bambans et al, the number of suggestions that we’ll be stuck with Ashley are worrying. Of course they could be media conjecture, lazy journalism, click-bait but could there be some strategic leaking from the Ashley camp?
Ashley seems to have developed a reputation fir moving goal posts and I wonder if he’s done just that trying to squeeze more out of BZG at the last minute? Could there be a stand off between them?
Pessimistic I know but……

Comment #46FFP was designed purely to stop English teams dominating. Platini and Blatter didn’t follow through on it because a French team PSG were bought as a bribe to guarantee Qatar got the World Cup. Common knowledge yet nothing whatsoever has been done except to punish the minions who accepted the bribes. Platini should be in prison.

Ashley’s not known for leaking info. Most our signings come in as complete surprises. I think the Stavely & Kenyon takeovers were leaked from those parties as they were seeking investors so it would be in their interests to go public. Ashley was either unaware they’d do that or consented to their request knowing ultimately it could be in his best interests which were/ are to sell the club.

Comment #50There’s something I’m not getting that I’m hoping someone can educate me on…
I don’t understand why Ashley has to pay to tie down Rondon. I also don’t understand why Ashley has to get Rafa tied down either. If we are sold, isn’t it up to the new owners to do that? And if we aren’t sold in time, can’t Ashley just sort these issues out with the promise that the new owners will pay him back if it’s their goal to also get our new season running without a hitch? I’m not being cheeky. I genuinely don’t understand… My business acumen and legal knowledge I admit is sorely lacking.

I used to spend time with Supermac 20 years ago not long after he got sacked from Century radio for drink driving.
He was not in a good place but his partner, Brian Johnson from ACDC ex wife, saw him through it.
He had some great stories to tell and one was about Gordon Lee – after an England match at Wembley Lee came up to him and chatted as if he’d known him for years. Malcolm didn’t recognise him and asked who he was and Lee didn’t take too kindly to that. When Lee came to NUFC Malcolm greeted him with “Welcome to Newcastle Gordon” to which Lee replied “it’s Mr Lee to you MacDonald”.
Malcolm said he knew he had no future under Lee from that day.
Absolute to$$er Lee was. And one of the worst managers we’ve had to boot.
