Report – Chelsea Meeting Underway To Appoint Rafa Benetiz As New Manager Imminently

Maurizio Sarri will leave Chelsea as he pursues the job as the new Juventus manager, so now the London club will have to quickly appoint a manager.

And Italian media outlet  Tuttosport are reporting today that talks with Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez have already begun with Chelsea as owner Roman Abramovich has always thought highly of the Spanish manager.

In fact, the report goes so far as to say the appointment of Benitez as the Chelsea manager is imminent and could be announced within 48 hours.

This has come right out of the blue.

And since Chelsea do need to look for a new manager – Rafa’s available because he’s a free agent in 19 days and will cost nothing to appoint since he doesn’t have to break his contract.

Rafa Benitez – Chelsea manager Nov 2012 – May 2013
Won Europa League – 3rd place in Premier League

But Chelsea fans don’t like Rafa for the way he criticized the club when he was the manager of the Reds from 2004-2010.

And reports from London in the last hour are the Chelsea fans have already begun to protest Rafa’s possible appointment.

Even if Roman Abramovich wanted to appoint Rafa we don’t think he will if the fans react like they did when he was appointed as caretaker manager back in late 2012.

And that seems to be what’s happening.

And the last thing Rafa needs in his next job are fans who don’t approve of him after he’s been made a God-like figure on Tyneside over the last three years he has managed Newcastle United.

Rafa has done an excellent job with very little funds to take Newcastle from the Championship to the middle of the Premier League.

It’s a bit of a shocking headline, but there’s only one outlet reporting this – Tuttosport – so we don’t think there’s much behind the headline that Rafa could sign for the Blues.

We hope there’s not much behind the headline that Rafa could sign for the Blues.

Comments welcome.

And yes, he has been asked (not by me) to confirm it and he has. The account has been going since 2012 if I recall, but only started tweeting in the last month.

Weird isn’t it? We’d protest if we lost Rafa, and the Chelsea fans will if they sign him as manager. Football’s a funny old game!

BTW, I do hope Rafa isn’t leaving, if he is we’ll all wish him well – it could be Lampard will be his assistant to get trained up for a year?

It’ll be Armageddon if we lose Rafa and then the takeover doesn’t happen. Ashley won’t be able to set foot in the North East ever again. He’d be lynched.

Does Rafa normally do some sort of interview on his first day back at work?

Can commercial premises show the Boxing Day games?

I wouldn’t blame Rafa at all if he left, it won’t be his fault if he does. He wants to stay. He loves the club and the supporters. He can see the potential. All he needs is a little bit of financial support and to be left to get on with it. He knows exactly what needs to be done to get us into the top ten every season.

The whole situation is an absolute joke.

Cheers Micky. Certainly positive, then. I assume that MDs of large Middle Eastern conglomerates don’t generally go around communicating via Twitter emojis, unless they are trying to convey positivity to a large group of people unofficially.

I like the way this guy does things – he’s doing all he can to communicate as much as possible. It bodes well for the future, for sure.

So DubaiMicky, are you saying you believe (via your local contacts) that the Midhat twitter account to be genuine? That would be contrary to what Douglas et al seem to thing, but I’d put more stock in your opinion TBH. If you think it’s genuine then that thumbs up could be very meaningful!

I seriously doubt Rafa is going back to Chelsea where the fans didn’t take to him at all. Even after winning them the ufea cup, they still didn’t want him and prefered mourhino over him.

I personally would say no thanks if I was Rafa. especially if this club is on its way to been bought over, it’s the project he was promised by Ashley.

It puts a different complexion on Rafa’s meeting with Charnley yesterday. Maybe an update from Charnley on the progress of the sale and the new club structure going forward. Maybe suggests that Charnley will be kept on as an interim Director, which has always made some kind of sense, even if he and Rafa haven’t seen eye to eye in the past

I will repeat this from the last thread. The Telegraph had an article today listing the top 10 bookies’ favourites for the Chelsea job and Rafa wasn’t on it.

    Lampard 4/7

    Brendan Rodgers 33-1

I would hate to see charnley kept here. He doesn’t deserve it after all the times he’s taken Ashley’s side over the fans. Told us his lies and backed him up at every opportunity.

He is Ashley’s puppet, so he can follow him out the door.

Tuttosport is probably right that Rafa and Abramovic
have communicated however it’s a long step from
that to Benitez managing them again.

Russell Cushing NUFC club secretary was at the club for
35 years , he was kept on by SJH after the Magpie group
    kicked out McKeag and co.
When Ashley took over he lasted only a couple of months.

Shadow_Shearer, I know, I’m not happy about i either really, but if nothing else he knows better than anyone how the club runs and where the effort needs to go to put things right.

He’s been Ashley’s mouthpiece and hatchet man. It strikes me he’s not suited to either role, though he does seem to be a capable administrator.

He doesn’t need to be MD, but Ops Director with a pay rise would probably keep him happy, looking after staff hires, pensions, cleaning and maintenance etc. Shunted sideways where he can do no harm and never has to negotiate for another player again.

No chance Rafa to Chelsea will happen, the Chelsea “fans” didn’t take to Rafa despite winning a cup in his only season.
On top of that you have the players, a selfless bunch who at the drop of a hat will throw you under a bus as soon as they hear something they don’t like the sound of coming from the managers mouth.

It is quite funny that nobody has a good word to say about Lee Ryder. You read his articles in the Chronicle and all of the comments pretty much amount to the same thing – Ryder you are a c@ck. Every day, no matter what he is writing about.

The only person I have ever heard say anything good about him was at a pre-season NUFC game in the US. The founder of the Chicago NUFC supporters group said he met him that day in The Pfister Hotel and he was a nice guy. I sent him a youtube clip of Harry Enfield “Tim, nice but dim”.

The Pfister Hotel is the nicest hotel in Milwaukee by the way. Probably $250 a night for a basic room. That’s where all the clickbait money goes.

i keep getting told that there are much more important thing in life than NUFC.
Of course there are – just sometimes it doesn’;t seem so.
However it would not take a great deal to make us happy.
MA and blobby to piss off out for one.
    Rafa to stay for two.
    Some player investment for three.
So little to ask to put us out of this daily cruelty.
Somebody somewhere MUST know what is happening.
For Fx sake then tell us.
