Lascelles In Big Move To Italian Giants?

There is some disconcerting news in Italy that Lazio is looking to bring Newcastle Captain Jamaal Lascelles to Rome this summer.

The report claims that Lazio are looking to strengthen their back line with the addition of Lascelles. Lazio have been continually linked with Brazilian Bruno Viana of Braga and Hoffenheim’s German defender Kevin Vogt recently but now have identified Jamaal as a target.

However, the Italians are very mistaken if they think our skipper can be prised for the quoted €16M in the piece. Newcastle, in a seller’s market, would demand at least three times as much.

There is also a reference to using Jordan Lukaku to tempt Newcastle into parting with the player who has been the heart of the team for the past three seasons. However, the report fails to mention that Lukaku failed a medical this January before a potential loan move and Antonio Barreca was instead brought in from Monaco.

Manager and Captain– imagine the scenes if both are gone this summer

With current starters Francesco Acerbi and Stefan Radu both well past the age of thirty, it does appear that Lazio is desperate to bring in at least one centre-back this summer.

We hope there is nothing to this report as Jamaal Lascelles has been a monumental influence to this squad. He and Rafa Benitez get on so well and represent the club with dignity and class.

Jamaal has been at Newcastle since the infamous summer of 2015. He had spent a year on loan at Nottingham Forest after being transferred along with Karl Darlow from Forest the summer prior.

He has made 137 appearances for Newcastle and has been our captain since being appointed as a 22-year old in 2016.

We just can’t imagine the scenario of both Rafa Benitez and Jamaal Lascelles leaving this summer.

Actually, we can. But we just don’t want to do that to ourselves at the moment.

They didn’t have to say anything at all. What would have happened would be Ashley taking enormous flak. This would strengthen the buyers hand knowing the product was becoming more toxic by the day. Ashley would need to do something to stop the club devaluing, news about the manager first would be good but said manager is waiting for the club’s future before committing. Impasse. Therefore Ashley would have a choice – come out and say the deal is done and give a tentative deadline, fit & proper etc permitting OR “I’m not selling, business as usual, Rafa’s off so Tony P will be filling the wheelie bins with ice cubes next Monday morning and stuff the Mags! “

    Robleenio,
Ashley is riding on the back of this publicity stunt, this is taking the talk away from the main issue of “Rafa signing new contract”.
Why would BZG want to have its name dragged through the press if not true, that is a question I cannot answer but it has surely got their name in the world media.(Any form of publicity like this is good for a company).

I don’t get the support for Bills son is back comment that Ashley is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t in regards to making a statement, is it really too much to announce that there is something happening behind the scenes and we apologise for the lack of communication and will let you know as soon as it’s possible, instead of a two fingered ‘No comment’

I dont really mind Lascelles going, as long as we get 30m + for him.

I think as a defender he isnt anything special, Fernandez is better for me, marking at set pieces has cost us a few this season and not comfortable on the ball. there are plenty of better defenders out there – Konate at Leipzig will be a world beater in a year or 2, would love him if we could have a wishlist.

the issue may be Lascelles as a captain rather than a footballer, has been the leader for Rafa’s whole time and dont know how influential he is around the club, could be a bigger miss than on the pitch.

Dont see it happening though if Rafa stays, if he goes then its open season for most of the squad..

I’m quite relaxed and haven’t started to stress or panic yet.

I will admit if we get to Sunday with no announcement Rafa will only have 2 weeks left on his contract and I’ll be starting to getnervous…

It’s not a mess, it’s a typical takeover. Which other takeovers are fans given daily updates. We’ve had a few courtesy of the
Shiek which is more than most clubs get. They’re hardly going to come out and say there’s a hold up because the Shiek hasn’t shown his money or there’s a hold up because Ashley’s vomitting in the fireplace. The two messages from the Shiek have been positive. No messages from Ashley is what’s to be expected. All we can do is wait.

    Update!!!

The season ended on May 12 and it is now a full month on, June 12, and not a thing has happened.

Rafa had a meeting and we don’t even know what it was about. Contract? Takeover?

The Sun, of all places, leaked a takeover story and we all went into meltdown. Nowt since, and it has been 3 weeks.

Lee Ryder writes 10 200 word articles about f-all, informed by f-all.

2 press releases but no reporter has really validated them.

    GeordieTom goes to Benidorm.

Jib puts up a picture of himself that would normally appear on the Law and Order SVU Gay Porn episode.

We even still have the Spanish Donkey (Joselu).

That’s about it, and we are all chasing our tails.

So nobody else is wondering why the buyout has been conducted in this shonky way? 😀 No? Nobody?

It’s pretty obvious nobody would be giving out information when an enquiry is made, when an offer is made, when corporate solicitors draw up the contracts and when the footballing governing body are appraising the purchase. So why was the worst part, the approach and offer, made public by the party most likely to want it kept on the down low? I’m still waiting for a decent stab at answering this one.

Tsunki @66: I am wondering what is going on. You list the various parties involved. Normally there would be leaks from somewhere, right? After a month. It is not usual to have something drag out this long and nobody know what is going on. And silence from all of the reporters. Ryder and Waugh don’t count.

I suppose if the Press didn’t spot Jimmy Savile’s and Rolf Harris’s fiddling in 30 years of following them then we shouldn’t be surprised at their ineptitude as far as NUFC is concerned.

Tsunki, early info pointed the leak at someone at the FA / PL as the fit and proper person paperwork was submitted.

It was only 20 hours after the story broke that the BZG released a statement, presumably after some frantic back-and-forth to agree what could be said between the BZG and MASH Holdings legal teams.

kimbo “it has surely got their name in the world media.(Any form of publicity like this is good for a company”

Surely it’s even better publicity for them to complete the purchase and own a successful Premier League football club? Also, if they’re lying, then the bad publicity that would produce would far outweigh any positive publicity they have got. Their business reputation would be in tatters, never mind their personal honour, which I believe is very important in the Arab World.

Ron Knee: I assume you are talking to me I wouldn’t say it is an UNHEATHLY obsession with the Chronicle. Calling them out for being sh!t more like. They have 8 full time writers and come up with nothing. Ryder just dials it in with his lame 200 word “articles”. It is like he has a word limit and none of them do any actual reporting and just pass along gossip from who knows who because they have no contacts at NUFC any more.

If you are going to have a go at me about something I wouldn’t pick my saying the Chronicle reporters as being crap at their jobs as your topic 🙂
