Lascelles In Big Move To Italian Giants?

There is some disconcerting news in Italy that Lazio is looking to bring Newcastle Captain Jamaal Lascelles to Rome this summer.

The report claims that Lazio are looking to strengthen their back line with the addition of Lascelles. Lazio have been continually linked with Brazilian Bruno Viana of Braga and Hoffenheim’s German defender Kevin Vogt recently but now have identified Jamaal as a target.

However, the Italians are very mistaken if they think our skipper can be prised for the quoted €16M in the piece. Newcastle, in a seller’s market, would demand at least three times as much.

There is also a reference to using Jordan Lukaku to tempt Newcastle into parting with the player who has been the heart of the team for the past three seasons. However, the report fails to mention that Lukaku failed a medical this January before a potential loan move and Antonio Barreca was instead brought in from Monaco.

Manager and Captain– imagine the scenes if both are gone this summer

With current starters Francesco Acerbi and Stefan Radu both well past the age of thirty, it does appear that Lazio is desperate to bring in at least one centre-back this summer.

We hope there is nothing to this report as Jamaal Lascelles has been a monumental influence to this squad. He and Rafa Benitez get on so well and represent the club with dignity and class.

Jamaal has been at Newcastle since the infamous summer of 2015. He had spent a year on loan at Nottingham Forest after being transferred along with Karl Darlow from Forest the summer prior.

He has made 137 appearances for Newcastle and has been our captain since being appointed as a 22-year old in 2016.

We just can’t imagine the scenario of both Rafa Benitez and Jamaal Lascelles leaving this summer.

Actually, we can. But we just don’t want to do that to ourselves at the moment.

If this deal does fall through or is a hoax I’d expect protests by fans on a scale that’s never been seen before. This would be the tipping point…

The only interesting thing The Chronicle have written in the last month was Mark Douglas’ explanation of how a sports team takeover works. And even that was basically a book report of something written about takeovers from a sports takeover attorney. Nothing original from Mark, a book report as I just said.

And in the past month since the Rafa meeting has Ryder said anything meaningful or even interesting? He is the chief sports reporter. When is he going to report?

Ronny, Ronny, Ronny. You don’t want to pick a fight with me about The Chronicle.

Ron Knee: actually, you don’t want to pick a fight with anybody about The Chronicle reporters because you will end up on the losing side.

Cheers Neil! I have to admit I almost choked on my cornflakes when I read that headline earlier. The addition of a simple question mark has made it much more accurate. Ether way, I still hope it’s not true. He’s not a world class defender by any means but he’s a fantastic leader. We don’t have enough of them in our dressing room at the minute.

I haven’t seen it mentioned on here this morning but I think Aaron Hughes deserves a mention on a fine career including 279 appearances for nufc – good luck in his retirement.

    * Ryder does extended tweets now. Knows nobody.

    * Douglas? Makes excuses about their clickbaiting and is Ryder’s boss. Should ask for more from Wor Lee. So, enough said.

    * Little Chrissie Waugh – 5 things we learned. Interviews Ryder a lot.

    * 5 other full time “reporters”. What do they do?

    * now the Chronic have first year students predicting transfers and next year’s team from Fifa 19 or football manager FFS!

    * And then there is Gibson always talking about the good old days when he was known as “Gibbo”.

    * McDonald I don’t mind because I have really good memories of watching him when I was a kid. But every article comes back to something that he did when he played and can never be just about the present. Same with Mick Quinn,

Is that enough of an obsession for you Ron Knee 🙂

Hear hear, Martoon – I remember him making his debut at the Nou Camp in the mid-90s. What a place to make your debut, but he handled it well.

close to 300 appearances and he was only 25 when he left. He could have been our all-time record holder for appearances, comfortably, if it wasn’t for that pr!ck Souness.

Without anything definite we have 3 choices

    – ignore as if similar to usual press transfer speculation

    – Take it as an Ashley scam

    – Accept that it is real and it takes time to complete

I reckon because of how long story has run it’s now either second or third possibility

Even Ashley would baulk at such an elaborate hoax just over contract and transfer spending (even if he could “buy” cooperation form such a reputable group) when there will only one party to blame if this didn’t happen and it won’t be as easily forgotten as Staveley attempt!!!

So for me the logical choice is the third and I continue to wait as it appears Rafa is content to do for now
