Newcastle Hoping For Easier Start To Season Than Last Year

The Premier League will announce the Premier league fixtures tomorrow at 9:00 am and it’s always a good day for fans as we see who we can beat early in the season.

Last year’s initial fixture list was horrendous, and we had to face five of the top six clubs in our first 8 games, and we lost six of those and drew the other two.

We had to play Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United in the first eight games.

We’re assuming Rafa will be Newcastle manager for the first game of the season

Not a good start and surely we will have an easier time of it this season?

Here’s the leaked memo which shows Newcastle at Everton on Saturday, 10 August.

That wouldn’t be a bad first game for us, but it’s surprising it’s not going to be televised.

Of course, that’s always assuming there’s some authenticity to this memo – it’s an easy memo to make up after all.

It took me about six minutes to do it all.

Just kidding.

I met a bloke last night who had a theory regarding player transfers, he thought that Rafa was wrong to have signed young Murphy last year. He said Rafa should have signed both twins!

His theory was simple; the twins had obviously been together since their birth, they’d moved to London, and eventually signed for Ipswich. Both Murphy twins were transfered in the same window, and as a possible result of their separation, neither has been particularly sucessful.

Maybe if Rafa bought the other twin he might just redeem the investment. Just a thought…

    Repost from previous:

The reason that BZG will have given no comment to a local journo is that by the terms of their NDA, they will have to have had clearance from NUFC for any information they release. Impromptu interviews with journos will not have been cleared by NUFC, whereas emails can be cleared in advance.

In that sense, NUFC can be said to have communicated with the fans, at least by association. We could still do with something ‘official’, though, to calm the nerves if nothing else.

Also, the journalist said he had spoken to the office of the BZ Group. He could have got no further than their receptionist or Midhat Kidwai’s PA, who will only ever flat-bat any questions they are asked.

I reckon Man City away will be the first match.

And swans will have the bluebirds.

Didn’t Rafa say if he did well he’d consider buying his brother?

It’d hard to step up and get a run if games. Kennedy was so good season before and that seemed to stunt his chances. I’d keep him around he’s still young.

Betty – aren’t you really agreeing with my point? You said in conclusion –

“This has now created unprecedented restlessness in the camp with both factions having decided on a total shutdown and as tensions continue to build…”

So the question remains, if anyone can rationalise it, why would a competent, well – planned strategic business buyout begin with some half-baked priapic “the deal is done” announcements when it clearly is nowhere near complete? The effect remains one of witheld expectation, frustration and division on future progress. If this is “starting as you mean to go on” it doesn’t bode well, does it?

I’m in the undecided column. My heart is telling me the signs are good and despite some PR blunders it’s going to happen.

Head says it’s another botched negotiation and Ashley’s PR gurus are putting in overtime shifts trying to figure out what flavour jam to put on the announcement that we are moving forward as usual with the walrus.

Fixture list is fake, kick off on Sunday’s this season will be 14.00 and 16.30. Also Sky/BT normally won’t announce until a month or so late who gets the first batch of TV rights.

I forgot about Bas Dost. We could have a tandem of him and Andy Carroll in the new look team. Both 30, so that would be no problem for Mikey.

Tsunki, you’re playing a bit fast and loose with your ‘half-baked priapic “the deal is done” announcements’

The full statements from the BZG are below, the first from Monday 27th May, the da yafter The Sun broke the story, the 2nd from Wednesday 19th May, designed to reassure fans and protect the Sheikh from allegations of dishonesty.

Nowhere do they claim the ‘deal is done’

    Statement 1 (Mon 27th May):
“We can confirm the representatives of his Highness Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nahyan are in discussions with Mike Ashley and his team about the proposed acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club.
We view it as an honour to have the opportunity to build on the strong support, history and tradition of the club.
We have agreed terms and are working hard to complete the transaction at the earliest opportunity.”

    Statement 2 (Wed 29th May):
“In consideration of the numerous speculations in regards to the timelines of the acquisition of Newcastle United Football Club by Bin Zayed Group, we feel the need to issue this statement.
Terms have been agreed between us and Mike Ashley; these terms have been reflected in a document, signed by both parties, which has been forwarded to the Premier League.
The proof of funds statement was forwarded to Mike Ashley’s lawyers on 17 April 2019.
The so called fit-and-proper Premier League process is a standard procedure which will take time, and we are doing all we can to assist the Premier League during this process.
We feel the need to clarify this point in order for the fans and the general public to understand the timelines.”

Not being contrary. It was probably worth reminding everyone exactly what had been said anyway.

Since then, they issued their “All good” statement to the Chronicle, presumably is reply to an emailed query from Lee Ryder or whoever. Yesterday, Midhat Kidwai released his ‘thumbs up emoji’ update, presumably designed to signal some kind of threshold has been reached which they cannot yet disclose. I guess we’ll find out what that was in good time. Or not, if the sheikhover doesn’t happen, which is possible but not likely in my eyes.

How do you know that the deal is clearly know where near being done, that is just pure speculation from you, the BZG did say that the FA proper person tests need to be done and that they do take time, how do we know that that FA test is the only thing holding it back.

Interesting theory regarding Murphy. I think we have to accept that he won’t be a major part. Not blaming whomever brought him in, or the other flops. It’s part and parcel of the hiring process, some work out (plenty examples) some don’t.

I’m assuming there will be no incoming or outgoing until the ownership is sorted. All assets will be frozen, including players and staff. All will need to wait.

    Including us.
