There are reports resurfacing in Italy that Newcastle are again interested in long-term target Diego Laxalt.
Laxalt is a left-sided midfielder/wing-back who made a big move back to Milan last summer joining AC Milan from Genoa for €17M.
Laxalt had joined Genoa from Inter in 2016 for €5.8M. His move to Milan had not gone as expected for the Uruguayan who was quickly linked with a move away in January 2019.
Newcastle were heavily linked with Laxalt as a solution to their left back issues in January even though he had only been at AC Milan since August.
Later that January, Calcio Mercato reported that Laxalt was not too impressed with Newcastle but it may have been because at that time we were third bottom.
Diego Laxalt– when playing for Genoa
Laxalt, who has 17 caps for Uruguay, managed only 6 starts in Serie A for Milan while the prior season at Genoa he started 32 games.
Atalanta and Torino are said to also be tracking Laxalt so if Newcastle still does not interest him, his only options may be another move within Serie A.
There were also murmurs in April that Newcastle would go for Laxalt this summer. So this recent report seems like a continuation of prior links.
The player would cost about €12M which is reasonable. However, we would not consider him to be a top target if Newcastle get adequate funding for transfers this summer.
