Justin Allen of the Sun, who broke the story of the Bin Zayed Group’s potential takeover of Newcastle, still claims that it is progressing.
Justin took to Twitter this morning with this update:
Newcastle takeover process is still in motion. I can't report anything more than that I am afraid. I know how frustrating this must be for all #NUFC fans. #PremierLeague #Newcastle
— Justin Allen (@justinallen1976) June 25, 2019
While there is nothing new in this. There is still hope that we will be rid of Mike Ashley at some point. Even if it is taking longer than we can stand.
We also have this tweet from Sky Sports’ Keith Downie:
The one-year deal that sat on Rafa’s table would’ve had us back here again next summer, even in January probably. It was a short term fix. There’s nothing to say at this stage the Spaniard can’t be brought back in the event of a takeover in the future #NUFC
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) June 25, 2019
While it is true, that for Newcastle fans it is the hope that kills. We never would have thought that Rafa Benitez would have been the manager under Mike Ashley for three seasons.
That was beyond comprehension when the club was mired in the relegation zone in 2016. But it happened and we are all the better for it.
This takeover may also happen. Let’s just hope it does and that it doesn’t destroy us in the process.

Yes you can never have enough snooker tables in my book.
I have myself bagged enough tents to host my own boutique music festival .

1. They don’t want Rafa and MA has done their dirty work for them bu pulling the plug.
or
2. They rehire Rafa and instantly become Toon heroes.

Comment #9Nice positive update from Justin Allen. He’s been quiet recently, but I wonder if his contact has told him to lay off as he/she was getting some heat.
I refuse to believe this is the most elaborate wind-up the World has ever seen. I mean, if this was all smoke and mirrors it would have to be up there with the guy who sold Tower Bridge to the Yanks. People would be talking about it for generations.

Aren’t you better filling your basket with something like all the Liverpool home shirts, as tieing up the sale of snooker tables, although high in value, won’t have much of an impact on sales as 12ft snooker tables sales and demand will be very low.
Tents on the other hand, with Glastonbury this weekend, is another story.

Comment #15There is no dressing it up Mike Ashley has pushed out an elite European manager and overtly shown that he does not have any ambition for the football club.
Who would want to become the replacement manager in this scenario?
The club will struggle to appoint anybody prior to the beginning of the season leaving the preseason in tatters and adding a huge financial burden to pay for a mercenary coach. The owner has again made another short sighted decision and we will be the ones to pay for it.

Comment #22The job actually is a pretty good one though OFD, thanks mainly to what Rafa has done for us, so there surely will be some good managers interested.
We have a solid squad, there is 60 million to spend plus outgoings, a great stadium and great support and if Rafa’s salary is anything to go by, a decent wedge for taking it on.
Rafa wanted more than Ashley was willing or able to give, or simply had enough of him, but someone good can still come in and continue where Rafa left off, if Ashley has the will to go after him.

Yes I did similar after the staverley fiasco and managed to hold every Spurs(they were looking good to win the league back then) shirt in large mens in the uk for a 4 day period .
Every little helps .

Comment #25I’m possibly being a bit unrealistic here but the BZG have never stated that they wanted Rafa as manager, they’ve never said they don’t either, but is it possible that they have wanted Rafa out before they take over so Ashley gets the back lash rather than them

Comment #27“I can’t report anything more than that I am afraid. I know how frustrating this must be for all”
Does his wording tell us he can’t report any more than that because he doesn’t know, or that he knows but isn’t allowed to say anything?
If he wasn’t a journalist trying to drum up hits I would have taken that as bit of a pep talk for the fans from somebody who knows somethings about to happen.

Comment #29Under Rafa, very incrementally and slowly we were starting to resemble a professionally run football club.
Ashleys ” responsible, structured and self sustaining” policy, only seems to sustain Ashley and does the bare minimum for the club in terms of commercial income or any other revenue stream. Imagine what that £150M Ash lost on Debenhams could have done for us. How there is no FA enquiry into Ashley’s business practices beggars belief.
The mask really slipped on Catchy when he said Pulis (the high priest of anti football) was a better coach than Rafa. If that doesn’t confirm Catchy as a mackem wum, what does.
I think if no takeover and with Rafa gone, it becomes a matter of principles whether you keep turning up at SJP. This is a soul-less club in name only under Ashley. That said, if worse comes to worse and no takeover, of all the people linked, Arteta could be potentially quite exciting and would keep the Spanish speaking contingent (mainly Almiron and Perez) happy. Wish we had kept Merino too.

Comment #30Ranieri – no thanks. Past his sell by date.
Anyway we have a Manager called Rafa Benitez who is still under contract until 30th June.
After that he may still be our Manager under new owners.
Don’t leave the building yet team Rafa you have legal rights.

Comment #31Starting to worry if the conflicting chronicle reports that Ashley has yet to receive an official bid are true and we are no where near a takeover.
Also is there any concrete information on the other two bid/offers on the table? I feel like we had the BZG revelations and as it has gone on one day these two bids were added to the mix without any substantial new developments.

Comment #32I think the squad is Ok and will stay up with a couple of additions. Somebody said Ashley will cash in on Almiron. I doubt that, he will be worth a lot more after another season.
We will probably have Dawson/Redfearn as caretakers until after the China trip. I just cannot see any movement on a new Manager until there is a clearer picture on the possible takeover.

Comment #36To add to Bills son’s list, it could be to test the waters of fan reaction assuming BZG want to bring in their own man, but also want the fans 100% onside. The previous press spate of Mourinho to replace Rafa stories got a fairly ‘positive’ response on the blogosphere in that most would take losing Rafa if it meant getting rid of Ashley. Yesterday’s reaction might have caused a rethink.
It could also be more brinkmanship from Ashley in the negotiations. Will there be a meeting today????

If toon22 is proven right he deserves credit like. I think the people hearting him are starting to come down off the cloud and accept the potentially grim reality that he has been trying to bring us back to throughout this ordeal haha
If we had of listened to him from the get go we may not be so disappointed now that it looks like it may fall apart. When BZG made the second statement a takeover looked a CERT. Much respect to him for seeing the extent of Ashley’s treachery through all that.
Hope he’s wrong though

Comment #39No upfates on alleged meetng as yet. If there is indeed to be one Press don’t know – but what’s hew
More well intended calls for fan action without any clue as to how to achieve it apart from the statement itself – Yeah we all get it.
At least Genjkai on night shift did say he had got in touch with someone at The Magpie Group with a view ( with Ed’s permission?) to communicating their strategy and action they intend. Credit where credit’s due
That’s how to move things forward – will it make any differnece? I don’t know but it’s got to be better than the usual “do this do that ” which makes poster feel empowered and nothing else
