Calcio Mercato is reporting that Newcastle are interested in Genoa centre-back Davide Biraschi.
The former U21 Italian international has been with Genoa since 2016 when he moved from Avellino for €1.6m. He still has three years remaining on his contract.
He was a mainstay at Genoa last season making 36 appearances with only 2 from the substitutes bench.
Biraschi is valued at €10m by Genoa and the player is also drawing interest from Everton, Lazio, and Atalanta.
Genoa generally deploy a back three similar to what Newcastle used under Rafa Benitez last term. Though, we have no idea what formation or system Newcastle will have next season as the search for a new manager has barely gotten underway.
Davide Biraschi– do Newcastle need another centre-back?
We would have our doubts about this transfer as central defence is one area in which Newcastle has excellent depth.
Currently, there is Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, Florian Lejeune, Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark, and Paul Dummett who can all do a job there.
Newcastle may well have scouted the player but we would imagine he would only become a target if another club poached one of our current defenders.

Comment #6Both planes are still in Luton Foggy, so both parties are still negotiating. We would have had a statement from both sides if the deal was off. BZG haven’t gone away yet, neither has my hope. But yes last night’s post were just Tony having a mental breakdown!!

I know just playing with him.
I mentioned some weeks back in defence that he wasn’t a Mackem that I recalled he did post some years ago on a reasonable basis but I guess he then somehow “got religion” and like any convert is unshakeable

Comment #27Toon22, I fully respect and admire your position and efforts re the whole bill in parliament thing and I’m not a fan of pissing on peoples chips. But having said that, I will shortly take a little tinkle on yours. I am a believer in the sale and take joy in any positive titbits that I can manage to believe, not as a naive mug, but from what I suspect are very differing views, from most, on how things come to be.
A bill being read before parliament and a bill being passed in parliament are two very different things. If ITUNDERASHELL is to be believed then very wealthy, powerful people are involved in shady dealings with football clubs and as such this bill would never be passed, at least not with a tory majority in Parliament. You only need to look at the letters written to MPs urging them not to vote to got war with Iraq, combined with one of the largest protest marches in our history to see how effective this technique is.
The best hope for this route is if Labour come into power, they had a bill in their last manifesto to address the issues. Good luck in even uniting this blog to vote for Corbyn.

Comment #30Kev – almost as if sports journalists know naff all about business…
On the positive side, waiting for the cash to hit is the very last step before completion.
Large amounts of cash are usually sent by CHAPS, which is same day provided it’s sent before 3pm.
IF they’re not talking out of their arse then you’d expect completion on Monday.
That said, their credibility levels are so low Satan’s probably tripping over them in his wine cellar at this point.

Comment #34The bill will take at least a year to be passed. Could be longer, give another year to drag MA into court….decent brief would delay forever

Comment #35The longer this drags on the more Toon22 makes sense.. after the initial outrage of Rafa leaving the blog seems to be resigned to the fact that the crown jewels will be sold off next..
Perez.. Longstaff.. maybe Schar.. Dubs..
Where will it stop.. why would Ashley want to sell the golden goose when the rest of his High Street business seems on the verge of imploding… If a manager is installed that can only indicate that the takeover is dead and buried and we have all been had.. again.

Your fundamental lack of knowledge about our club

He’s not got a clue about HMRC either but he has been successful with his one liner sound bites in capturing attention of some without having to explain anything in detail ( bit like Boris) whilst others ignore him so he has got a much easier ride than the range of opinion that deservedly hit Tony in last couple of days
