Odds Shorten On Steve Bruce As Next Newcastle United Manager As Newcastle Interest Is Reported

The Shields Gazette have noticed that Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce is now a favorite to become the next Newcastle manager according to some bookies.

This is what they have reported:

The former Sunderland boss is 4/1 on with Sky Bet, 13/8 with Betfair and 15/8 with Paddy Power.

Sky Sports have also just reported that Newcastle are in fact considering Steve Bruce.

The 59-year-old boyhood Toon fan has done the coaching carousel in English Football since he first became manager of Sheffield United in 1998. He has managed 9 different teams in 10 spells having managed Wigan Athletic in 2001 and then again from 2007-2009.

He last coached in the top flight in 2015 when his Hull City side were relegated. He has then had an unsuccessful spell at Aston Villa where he failed to get them promoted prior to joining Sheffield Wednesday.

Bruce was also the manager of Sunderland from 2009-2011 but had his longest term at Birmingham City from 2001 to 2007.

Steve Bruce– with Alan Shearer

In the Premier League, the former Manchester United skipper has quite a poor record. His points per match average is just 1.1 and he has a win percentage of only 28.

We did a report yesterday about how Mike Ashley only hires unattached managers or promotes from within. Bruce joined Sheffield Wednesday just this past February and did quite well. So, hopefully, they will want to keep hold of him.

Here In The City also noticed yesterday that Steve’s son Alex has started to follow Newcastle United on Instagram. So let’s hope that is just a coincidence.

Munster, not really, the opinion here is that they’re being shafted by ashLIE, they do have the cash, there is no doubt about that.

I don’t think they were ready for the intense media speculation on the Group and the fanatical fans that they will take on.

I also think they wanted to keep everything secret (it’s the Arab way) so that suggests to me that it was ashLIE’s side that leaked to The Sun to try to ramp up the pressure and increase the value of the deal to him.

They’re used to battling out deals all over the Far East and India, so fat slug wouldn’t normally be a problem, but, as I said, this is usually done behind closed doors. They will certainly have to get media savvy really quick (or hire people for the senior positions that are) when (if) the deal goes through.

naptoon, extreme left “contaminating” the blog? Do you even know what extreme left is? I’d very much doubt it considering your pathetic knuckle-dragging emoticon, and your use of verbage, exempli gratia: ‘summick’.

It is clear to all and sundry what class of person *you* are.

I’m thinking we need a protest band.

    GOasis!

Even pondering lyrics to half the world away.

Ashley needs to leave this city,
Fan protests will be none too pretty,
He should heed the warning signs,
    Rumbling around the ground.

Ashley if you don’t leave this minute,
Find a bunker, and go hide in it,
You should heed the warning songs
    Rumbling around the ground.

    So what do you say?
    You’ve robbed the club blind,
    Can you please go away?

    Just go the f@&k away
    Go the f£&k away
    Just go the f£&k away
If you carry this on then we’re going down.

Another snipe from you in a matter of days, no one knows how many will turn up but remind me when we’ve ever been United in not turning up or walking out in protest? Ahh that’s right……never!!

I based my judgement on facts, I didn’t mention having a full house at home games hence the 52k, you’ve rightly pointed out that a full house is a few hundred more but you’ve jumped on a comment without actually reading as per usual, took 52k as we had insinuated that meant full house.

It’s a fact our greatest asset is also our biggest downfall because we love our club and will still come out to support it, that’s not having a dig at fans. I take no pleasure out of anything nufc related at present and haven’t done so for awhile because of Ashley.

He could sell 2 season tickets and still get 52k in for match day, selling tickets for next to nothing and putting on cheap family packages. Season tickets isnt a barometer for how many will turn up.

Finally, stop taking everything personally, it’s a place for differing opinions so debate sensibly without trying to cast certain posters as poisonous or insinuating they have an agenda. You’re normally more sensible than that!!

    Cant possibly be true.

It shows how out of touch and the clubs lack of ambition to even mention his name.

You can imagine Charnley and fatso ticking boxes.

    Experienced tick
    Hes a geordie, tick
    Cheap contract tick
    Only knows championship players tick
Will do as hes told tick

Its certainly a way to get the fans back that havent renewed their ST’s

I dont think they even care about being in touch or not. Its do as little and spend as little as possible and expect to stay up. If in trouble spend in January, that seems to be the business model which has been tried, tested and failed on many an occasion

Apparently they have made contact with Bruce but its just to o get him on loan to cover the China trip as mourinho is on holiday in St tropez. Mourinho will sign his contract today by all accounts but then finish his holiday.
Charnley has an interview this afternoon for CEO at Farnborough Airport. There are two applicants. The other one is from Boston.
That’s all I have at present but seems to fit with everything we’re hearing.

It’s a good story but it’s just fictional nonsense made up by the media. Makes me laugh and I’m sure in a different era with a different owner Bruce would’ve loved to manage the toon his hone town club. However, he’ll know it’s just walking into a shit storm trying to follow Rafa with a piss poor squad. Plus, Ashley would never pay compo for a manager.
There is no new manager apart from Redfearn!

I dont understand why odds with bookies is taken as gospel. Not a betting man and never gambled so can anyone shed light on this?

I always thought odds were dictated by how much money people were putting on in bets, isnt the shortening of odds just people betting Bruce will be next manager?

Apologies in advance if that comes across as a bit dense, just never understood why it’s important
