According to a report in Corriere dello Sport detailed by Sport Witness, Newcastle are now looking at Juventus shot stopper Mattia Perin as competition for Martin Dubravka. It was just earlier this year that Martin Dubravka was said to be a target of the Turin club.
Mattia Perin joined Juventus last July for €12.3M from the club he had been with since he was just 16, Genoa CFC.
Perin was brought in to replace Italian goalkeeping legend Gianluigi Buffon who had just departed on a free to join PSG. Well, last week Buffon returned to Juve after just one year in Paris.
There has been many links for Perin this summer due to his limited playing time in Turin last season. Perin was expected to battle ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny for the number one spot. However, Szczesny was looking to claim the number one spot for himself after spending the previous season as Buffon’s understudy.
The former Arsenal goalkeeper did just that and had the best season of his career for the Serie A champions. His form left minimal opportunities for Perin, who managed only 9 starts before his season ended in April with a shoulder injury.
Mattia Perin– Yes, Newcastle are interested
The report from Italy is claiming that Newcastle are looking at Perin due to the reported high fee for Lazio keeper Thomas Strakosha. The Albanian international is valued between €40-50m by his club. A fee which Newcastle certainly would not pay.
Perin would be much more economical as he was bought by Juventus for just €12m last summer. The fee for Perin would not be the issue for Newcastle.
The issue is going to be the quality of the clubs that are also interested in the twice capped Italian. In May, Roma were said to be preparing a bid but that interest has appeared to die out.
This week, though, it is Porto who are very heavily linked with interest in the keeper as well as the aforementioned Lazio, but only as a replacement if Strakosha were to leave.
The report in Corriere dello Sport list Sevilla, Benfica, and Fiorentina with ties to the player.
With the current situation on Tyneside, you would have to question Newcastle’s ability to attract any players at the moment. Especially one that could have as many options as Perin.
It is a shame though, for the price Perin would be the perfect player to push Martin Dubravka at Newcastle.

I’d argue that Bruce got more to spend at any of those other clubs than he would get here. Even a crap manager can have “decent” results with the right backing. He’ll be a crap manager with no backing here and we’ll just sink like a stone

Comment #13signing a manager would mean ashley is staying. in that case i hope we get kiennar, allardyce, pardew type of manager so we can go down and not come back.. losing TV, sponsorship money is probably the only way for ashley to finally leave..
lets hope for the worst.

Comment #15Appears the takeover is off then if Bruce is announced as the new manager.
I think this is Ashley’s way of pushing the potential new owners into action. The timing is right as the two weeks completion warning given to BZG is up as of today.
Who blinks first comes to mind.
As I have said previously I have given up on ever seeing my beloved team at St James, as once you want the owner dead it’s time to leave.
I have now purchased a season ticket for Spennymoor, cost being £110. It’s time for me to leave and enjoy the fruits of non league, no long journeys to see the club, no more climbing to the 7th tier. No more Agro. No more false dawns. No more Ashley. 50 years without winning anything. Last 12 years except 1 fighting regulation. It wears you down.
Always hoped that my brother who is 75 years of age and me being 71 would attend a Wembley cup final. Can never see that happening, such a shame.
Now you will see us standing and leaning on a barrier watching a team along with another 1,000 supporters.

So the greasy Spanish turd is basically indicating that dissing Ashley is more important to him than Newcastle getting the best possible manager. Our local hero, who steeled himself to accept Ashley’s fat wedge while it suited him. I hope he rots in his Chinee hell-hole. Stinking bindipper lover he is and all.

Comment #20Hial AShley doesn’t pick the team but the manager/coach knows exactly where the priority lies as they stated at the fans forum years ago:
When asked at the meeting whether the club not think it is worth a cup run next season?
The reply was “The board outlined research into Premier League clubs in relation to domestic cup competitions in the last five years, with Swansea City the only club outside the traditional top six to win a domestic cup and not be relegated in the same season (Birmingham and Wigan Athletic were both relegated).
“Independent research into the cost of relegation over the past ten years showed there is a 50% chance of not gaining promotion back to the top flight and a 30% chance of being relegated to League One or further. In addition, if clubs do return to the Premier League, it takes four years on average.”
When the forum put forward the point that if the club finished higher in the Premier League, would they aim for a cup?
The board added: “At this moment in time, the club’s priority is the Premier League.”
Nothing has changed at the club since that statement, the cups will never be a priority under this owner its about staying in the premier league

Comment #24Is this the same Pete Graves who posted an image of himself with his arm around Dennis Wise earlier this Summer while calling him a ‘Legend’ and an ‘Icon’?
The very same Pete Graves who just ‘happened’ to be on the same train as Kenedy as he came North for his 2nd loan spell?
This same Pete Graves has just told us that Steve Bruce was a favourite of Sir Bobby and will build bridges with Shearer?
And he wonders why people think he’s a stooge for Ashley????

Comment #30Club is balanced on precipice and if there isn’t a sale won’t take much to carry us over.
ST’s are well down apparently, boycott has momentum ( but needs more) I am at family gathering weekend of Arsenal match and would normally tried to get tickets but no way now.
I can’t believe Sky local and National press just don’t see the story there in front of them and report on the existing turmoil and the effect appointment of Bruce or similar will have.
I read the deleted tweet by Peter Graves and what he is totally missing is if Bruce had been considered and appointed after Pardew or possibly McClaren then he might have been afforded a honeymoon period or at least avoided immediate hatred coming off the stands no matter how short. That situation cleaarly no longer exists. and there is no goodwill left at all and no hope without a sale of retrieving it under Ashley
Have we reached stage wwhere Ashley recognises that this is the only level of manager he can now contemplate and has painted himself into a corner where he has to go for Bruce or similar and let it play out regardless?
If Bruce is more than a plastic Geordie these days then he would distance himself from job right now out of respect for us his fellow fans and not even contemplate whther it is a situation that can be turned around.
Stll having trouble believing this is a possibility?
Bring on a sale or reap the whirlwhind that is awaiting

Comment #31The most annoying thing about this whole fiasco, which anyone could see coming, is that it’ll cost Ashley absolutely nothing.
Relegation? So what – he have to lend the club a few more million to get up again but, lending suits him – he’s got money safely tucked away to be redeemed at his leisure and it’s not taxable.
If Ashley, was genuinely interested in the club, all he had to do was give Rafa the assurances he was looking for but no, the arrogant git would rather have his way and bugger the consequences.
Please, if there is a god, help us be rid of Ashley, soon

Comment #33I emailed the Premier League (as well as FA and Newcastle United) to get answers. PL replied with some typical palm-off answer about only checking the financial wellbeing of clubs, suggesting I contact the club directly.
My response was fairly aggressive; accused them of being complicit in the disastrous ownership not just of NUFC, but of Blackpool, Blackburn, Leeds, etc., over the years. Reminded them that we have all tried to contact the club, but they ignore us. Further reminded the PL that they have a “rule” about fans forums that NUFC blatantly ignore, yet they do nothing.
Our problem is that not only do the club not give a toss, but neither does any authority. I’m counting the seconds til I finally jack it in; going to have a kit burning ceremony the second Bruce is announced. And I’m 100% not joking.
