Rennes Has “Agreement” For Ismaila Sarr To Leave

We first reported on Newcastle’s interest in Rennes attacker Ismaila Sarr two years ago when he was just 19 years old.

As recently as last month, there were also reports that Newcastle would bid as much as £26.6m for the now twenty-one-year-old. That however never came to fruition.

While speaking at the unveiling of new €10m signing Flavien Tait yesterday, Rennes President Olivier Létang gave an update on Ismaila Sarr.

“With Ismaila, there is a type of gentlemen’s agreement but we need all the conditions to be right, and they are not at the moment, if at a level (that we like) something is offered to us, we will have the capacity to accept it.”

The right conditions we believe are referencing Rennes valuation of the player which is believed to be as high as £36.6m. The only reported bid that has come in thus far for Sarr is from Watford who had their bid of £26.6m turned down by the French club.

Ismaila Sarr– will cost money but Newcastle are in dire need

Ismaila Sarr is a definite talent. He has has already made 21 appearances for Senegal where he is currently on international duty in the African Cup of Nations.

His record at Rennes is fantastic appearing 77 times for the club with 18 goals and 16 assists.

This past season, he played 50 games in all competitions with 13 goals and 11 assists playing both on the right wing and a bit at striker.

Born in Saint Louis, Senegal, he started his career at Senegalese football academy Generation Foot which also produced former Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse and the player Sarr is most often compared to, Sadio Mane.

This is the type of talent that Newcastle should be going for but never will. His blistering pace on the opposite flank of Miguel Almiron would be a real threat to defenses.

Without Salomon Rondon or Ayoze Perez this season, Newcastle are going to have to bring in three to four attackers as they were already short last season. An injury to Rondon would have left the club with just Joselu last year.

Newcastle are again behind in their recruitment and will soon run out of options as players who are available are snapped up. They then may have to overpay for players who clubs have no intention of parting with especially if it is left real late in the window.

The lack of any planning by Ashley and Charnley have left this club in peril. With no manager and no signings, this summer has delved into the realm of the ridiculous.

Whoever Ashley brings in to manage the club, he will have to back him with class players. Class players cost money but Ismaila Sarr would be a step in the right direction.

Charnley has sent a post card to Steve Bruce in Portugal saying “wish you were here”. Ashley sanctioned a second class stamp so it should arrive by next Friday a week after Bruce has returned to the UK. What it is to be such a class act.

Perhaps BZG didn’t want Rafa because they have their own Agenda as to how to take the club forward so understandable that Rafa knowing this took the Chinese yen.

BZG certainly wouldn’t want Bruce as his replacement so that doesn’t bode well.

Neil Redfearn and coaches if we have any can take the team on the China tour while waiting for the club to resolve it’s position and ownership. Appointing a new Manager in the next 48hours would be the biggest disaster in history. Imagine what this is doing to players morale, yet alone the fans.

Do we really believe that a Charnley is so stupid as to touch up a clubs existing manager and try to complete a deal like that before the squad flies out to China.
    Inept, pathetic, lonely, desperate.

No appointment is the key .

I can’t give any figures but feel that if Ashley, the person, is taking money out of the club, it would and should have been picked up during audit. I’m not saying that charges aren’t being made by Ashley owned companies (charges made by SD for warehousing merchandise and service charges for example).

As far as money from transfers, it comes in in instalments and goes out in one off payments and that would place further demands on prize and TV monies.

I cannot and will not condone Ashley’s management of the club – it’s he that is the millstone round its neck, hobbling it and feel as most do that his management and use of finances intended for other purposes – stadia, facilities, player development should be questioned, investigated and challenged by the TV companies.

One or two on here producing lengthy versions of their take on the whole takeover situation so far. Typically including the statements made, linked with plane/chopper watch, plus some very imaginative and baseless bits to gel their theories together.

If this situation goes on for much longer I would not be surprised that said naive loons introduce into their theories parts for Robin Hood, Dick Turpin, the Yorkshire Ripper and Fred West.

If Steve Bruce gets the job it means the takeover is dead , no manger would take a job if the take over was (let’s say 5 days away) or even 3 weeks away

You don’t take a job if you know you will be replaced in a month or so

This indicates to me , we are nowhere near close

BZG , think they had it over the line

    Ashley has played a blinder

I believe he has never officially set a price as he can never be called out !!

The price will always be 5 / 10 million more than the offer price , and will get added to the more people offer

This is why the club has never been sold

Stories of bidders not having the funds is simply wrong (the proof of funds will be asked of) before they enter negotiations

He then spreads the lies around so enough people believe them , it’s happened in numerous occasions

    BZG. , have the money

    Ashley not selling

If Bruce doesn’t get the job , it will be someone equally as bad

We will be in the bottom 3 or bottom 5 all season

He’s not bothered one bit , he has enough stashed away to get us back up

    Rinse and repeat

It makes me laugh when people say Ashley is involved in making any decision in regards to the footballing side of things

He probably has no interest , let’s chumpley deal with it all

The only aim is to advertise his business and make 16th place

It’s not s football club anymore

Im boycotting all games till the slug goes, even though i started paying for my season ticket in feb.
Im still hopeful il be at the Arsenal game , if not , i hope there are only a few in the ground to make our point, what would be great though is if there is a massive anti slug demonstration outside the ground for the whole match ( which i would attend)

Longstaff might be part of Ashley’s plans (to sell him) but the key is whether the lad wants to part of those so called plans.

In Sean’s shoes, would you? Nah, me neither.

    Not for sale ?
More likely Longstaff will be told he can move but has to submit a transfer request
” there was nothing we could do to keep him ..we wish Sean well and thank him for his efforts with us ”
Bet this not far from the truth

Good on ya mate, if Alot more followed suit we’d be rid of the slug far quicker than people think. I made that choice when P45 was our yes man, I like value for money!
I could see the attraction under Rafa, but there’s more to supporting a club than just cheering on any team MA feels fit to field.
