Report – Rafa Benitez Is Advising Against Newcastle Position

The Sun’s David Coverdale is reporting that both Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira have been put off the Newcastle United manager’s position after consulting with Rafa Benitez.

Coverdale writes in his article:

Manchester City No.2 Arteta and Nice chief Vieira were on the Toon’s shortlist to succeed Benitez.

But SunSport understands Arteta yesterday ruled himself out after speaking to his fellow Spaniard, who criticised those who worked above him at St James’ Park.

And Arsenal icon Vieira did the same last week following a similar phone call with the ex-Magpies manager.

We have no doubt that Rafa Benitez would be honest with any young manager when approached for advice on the Newcastle position, or any topic really.

We also feel that Steven Gerrard would be unlikely to take the position as he would almost undoubtedly contact Benitez at some point in the process.

As we found out yesterday in Rafa’s blog, he will not hold back on the Newcastle hierarchy if given the opportunity.

Rafa wrote the following yesterday:

As we all know from experience, in football, just as in everyday life, when people show you respect and affection and do everything they can to make things easier for you, life is much happier, even when you face difficult moments. I must say that I have had more meetings with the Chairman, the President and the General Manager this week, than I had in 3 years at Newcastle. They haven’t just been work meetings, rather signs of respect in which we have been able to appreciate the differences and similarities in our cultures.

We must wonder whether any of these young managers are truly being considered though. There was news yesterday about Giovanni van Bronckhorst being told he was not in consideration due to his inexperience with the Premier League.

Mark Douglas in the Chronicle wrote yesterday:

The message communicated to van Bronckhorst appears to suggest United are looking for someone who will hit the ground running and has a working up-to-date knowledge of the English top flight rather than someone from overseas who will be learning about the Premier League on the job.

Mark’s reporting to us seems to pave the way for a Steve Bruce like figure as the next head coach. Though Roberto Martinez would also fit the profile.

However, the Sun is also reporting that Newcastle have not followed up on their initial approach to Martinez.

Coverdale writes in his article:

Newcastle have also not followed up on last week’s approach to Roberto Martinez, who wants to lead Belgium to glory in next summer’s Euros.

We have to wonder who the next manager will be at this point. It does not look too promising to be honest.

They certainly will be a massive downgrade from Rafa Benitez.

If he’s living in Monaco and owns Nice that’s his plaything for the weekends.

Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of OGC Nice football club for about €100m is close to completion as Britain’s richest man continues to expand his sporting empire. The founder of the Ineos petrochemicals giant has been in talks for some months about taking over the Ligue 1 side.

Ratcliffe has had to be patient in dealing with the Chinese-American ownership but a deal has been agreed. The billionaire is understood to be happy to back Patrick Vieira, the manager, who led the team to seventh in his first season at the club

Add to the fact he’s predicted a takeover every day for the last month or so I can’t believe people are buying it.

Rule of thumb, if the journalists don’t know, a lad on Twitter isn’t.

i really really hope i am wrong but this drip feeding of attempts for managers smells of nufc spin doctors trying to diffuse and lessen effect of a takeover collapse…i am expecting statements along the lines of

despite agreeing further time for buying group to complete deal it has become evident that they cannot meet terms of purchase so nufc have no alternative but to end takeover bid…
we must now put all our efforts me and nix into getting a top top coach in and give him a massive transfer budget (one that benitez rejected because he had agreed a different path)…
mike has agreed to give sd mug to every new shirt purchased (collection only t&c apply) and also reluctantly accepted to extend season ticket renewal deadline….

bzg have now accepted it isn,t possible to agree terms with nufc ..it would be easier to catch the desert breeze or stop the movement of the whispering sands…we wish all nufc supporters the best of luck….

i hope this isnt the case …

I get what you mean about a future relationship between them and the club
But I think this has gone beyond that
Where has trying to negotiate and work with Ashley hot them so far ?
I think it’s time the gloves came off
Pretty sure if and when we got new owners and they learn of the stunts he has pulled they will want to be nothing like that kind of owner.
All business when in a new venture wants to be focused on the customer .its what can make or break them
History is full of companies who sank for not simply looking after its customer .
There was lad on a site the other day saying he was on a 10 year deal and wanted to chuck it in but was told he would be blacklisted and not be able to get another ? Now where did that sort of rubbish / threat generate from?
If the allies had worried about how they’d get on with Adolf after the war we would still be under the nazis

So the greasy Spanish turd is basically indicating that dissing Ashley is more important to him than Newcastle getting the best possible manager. Our local hero, who steeled himself to accept Ashley’s fat wedge while it suited him. I hope he rots in his Chinee hell-hole. Stinking bindipper lover he is and all.

Kev, I’m taking it all with large doses of salt mate, checking out how their latest predictions pan out. The plane activity is very real and very unusual. They way Ashley and his PR machine has approached season ticket sales this year is very different. Hollow stories about new managers, non of whom seem to have actually been approached. If Ashley is not selling and had planned to carry on as normal, then non of this makes any sense. Yes the guy you mentioned is the one who posted about the plane and he is definitely top of the list when it comes to possible attention seeking guess takers, hoping to ‘break the story’ first. Unfortunately twitter is full of them of varying degrees of ‘professionalism’, you have the like’s of Blackcloud, who seems to have a few respect his snippets, at one end of the scale and this guy at the other.

Right it took me a little while to process this new information but I’ve made sense of it now and updated my Dream Land narrative.

Plane activity looking back now indicates face to face meetings with Ashley, Midhat and Ratcliffe (possibly with Kenyon involved also) to overcome the final Premier League hurdles which would also explain the cryptic BZG announcement via Redding.

If whoever is on this plane to Nice is somehow finalising things I think we’re on for a joint BZG and Ratcliffe ownership, making us the richest club in the world!!

Get it done today lads and it was all worth the wait!

    😀

The overrated Frenchman can you not see Rafa is doing us a massive favour of talking people out of the position. By doing such might I add he’s lonely telling the truth, that is preventing fat mike from getting a manager as a result forcing his hand to get out of our club. If he has no manager along with no fans to go to games he only has one option other than to sell. Common sense really you should be thanking Rafa for being a martyr rather than calling him for telling the truth.

Ironically, I think the geordie shore fella is probablby the most reliable, in that he is not chasing followers like some of the others (he has 250K). I think he is genuinely passing info on that he has heard. The accuracy of that info is obviously up for debate. He has threatened to out his source on twitter if a sale doesn’t come soon.

Morning everybody. Each day is becoming more and more painful as this saga continues. The longer we go without a manager the more I keep my faint hopes up that the club will be sold. I’ve supported Newcastle for over 50 years and have never felt so hopeless for the future. Previous bad times never lasted that long and actions were always taken for the better.
Ashley doesn’t care about how we feel, act or cry. He’s not losing money with the club and I believe he takes pleasure from all the negative comments knowing that at the end of the day he can do what he wants.
Charnley I have no respect for. He was at the club before Ashley and I believe was a true Newcastle supporter. He’s now an underpaid director and jumped up accountant. If he had any integrity he should have walked years ago but I guess he realises his limits and knows he would have difficulty in finding another job.
One day the nightmare will be over I only hope I’m still around to see it

It is much easier to manage a top team in a league than a bottom one and look good. For Gerrard to come to Newcastle, unless he was blinded by a Jose size ego, would be a huge career mistake. He doesn’t need Rafa to tell him. Are we believing everything we read in the papers now?
