Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has tweeted out the following information which if true is excellent news for Newcastle fans.
There were high-level talks last weekend between Manchester United and Newcastle United about Sean Longstaff. Newcastle won't confirm there were talks but we understand Newcastle categorically not interested in selling Longstaff & and see him as a big part of their future plans
— Kaveh Solhekol (@SkyKaveh) July 10, 2019
This is very positive though Kaveh does state that Newcastle won’t confirm that talks took place. But we like the sound of “Newcastle categorically not interested in selling Longstaff”.
This is the exact stance that Newcastle should be taking on the young Geordie. Newcastle do not need to be a selling club anymore. The television revenue is more than enough to keep this club going while providing a healthy transfer budget year in and year out.
The problem is that Mike Ashley does not invest this money in the squad or facilities. This is why we are about to go from Rafa Benitez to Steve Bruce.
Sean Longstaff– needs to remain at the club
With Isaac Hayden likely to leave, allowing Longstaff to leave would further put the squad in peril. That is without even considering the emotional impact of allowing such a promising local lad to leave after only a stretch of games in a Newcastle shirt.
With the squad so drastically short in attacking areas as well as lacking quality at full-back, those will be the areas Newcastle will have to concentrate on this transfer window.
Depleting the midfield as well this close to the start of the season would be suicidal. Mike Ashley may not even be that reckless. Though we never thought he would let Rafa walk away either.

Comment #2If Steve Bruce gets the job it means the takeover is dead , no manger would take a job if the take over was (let’s say 5 days away) or even 3 weeks away
You don’t take a job if you know you will be replaced in a month or so
This indicates to me , we are nowhere near close
BZG , think they had it over the line
Ashley has played a blinder
I believe he has never officially set a price as he can never be called out !!
The price will always be 5 / 10 million more than the offer price , and will get added to the more people offer
This is why the club has never been sold
Stories of bidders not having the funds is simply wrong (the proof of funds will be asked of) before they enter negotiations
He then spreads the lies around so enough people believe them , it’s happened in numerous occasions
BZG. , have the money
Ashley not selling
If Bruce doesn’t get the job , it will be someone equally as bad
We will be in the bottom 3 or bottom 5 all season
He’s not bothered one bit , he has enough stashed away to get us back up
Rinse and repeat
It makes me laugh when people say Ashley is involved in making any decision in regards to the footballing side of things
He probably has no interest , let’s chumpley deal with it all
The only aim is to advertise his business and make 16th place
It’s not s football club anymore

Comment #3If it is Bruce then he deserves all the stick he’s going to get. He knows when signing on the dotted line what he is signing up, to be a yes man with no input to anything that happens at the club. Forget his history, the man is simply a bad manager.
How on earth have we gone from a champions league winning manager to Bruce in the space of 10 days??

More likely Longstaff will be told he can move but has to submit a transfer request
” there was nothing we could do to keep him ..we wish Sean well and thank him for his efforts with us ”

Understand the compensation fee couldn’t be agreed but now hearing that there will be further negotiations between Mike Ashley and Dejphon Chansiri about the future of Steve Bruce. Something has changed quick. Gut feeling is that he will stay but see what comes of this. #swfc

Comment #10Don’t get me wrong chaps, yes I believe the takeover is going ahead (and I don’t add any weight to chopper watch).
But, if it does fall through- there is one man to blame……and he would have tripped himself up on his own lies. Remember he let RAF go because BZG didnt want him (nothing to do with Ashley)……would he have done that if he hadn’t seen proof of funds?
To me, this is a takeover; or an all out boycott!
At that point I would think there’d be reasonable ground for the FA to investigate these buyers with no funds.
Keeping faith doesn’t mean accept being mugged off. On the contrary, my hope would’ve been crushed more than a few others….and the consequences would follow suit.

Comment #22I remember this being in the news.
https://www.thenational.ae/sunderland-chance-to-go-on-song-1.365571?videoId=5716439907001
“I cannot wait for the final whistle in tomorrow’s Premier League clash between Sunderland and Newcastle United.
Normally, one longs for the end of such encounters because the reality of local derbies rarely lives up to the overcooked hype, particularly when an atmosphere-sapping midday kick-off is involved.
In this case, however, I am keen to discover what treasures Steve Bruce, the Sunderland manager, has unearthed from his record collection.
Bruce is allegedly plotting musical revenge on Newcastle for a song played over the St James’ Park speakers following the reverse fixture earlier this season, which ended 5-1.
As the home support celebrated the humiliation, they sang along to Daydream Believer, by The Monkees. The 1967 single is traditionally used by Newcastle fans to taunt Sunderland, with adapted lyrics not fit for repetition in a family newspaper.
Bruce was reportedly upset by the incident because Newcastle appeared to deliberately orchestrate abuse of the away team, rather than doing what every other club does: pretending to disapprove while privately smirking.”
It is for the best that Bruce never got to play his song choice if these current rumours are to be believed. The above game ended 1-1 for reference.

Comment #23The fact that ‘high level talks’ took place at all sends a message to Man U.
And if there’s a compensation payment due for Bruce, it would’ve been cheaper to give Rafa the assurances he wanted and the club wouldn’t be in the mess it is now.
The club were supposedly confident Rafa would sign up and my guess is that would’ve been Charnley who might’ve been.prepared to give some ground to Rafa. If, if that was the case, somebody above him’s overruled him – Barnes but probably Ashley otherwise Charnley would’ve or should’ve been sacked.
As is, we’ve no manager along with his contacts, no coaching staff, short of quality players and looking for a manager, any manager who’s prepared to work under Ashley’s failed model. Oh and off to China to promote the club.
Ashley’s greed, arrogance and ignorance continues to be the order of the day.

Same shit with the story about Bruce, he couldnt take the stick at sjp when he was manager at scumberland so i doubt hes gonna come here to manage when he got so much stick from the fans b4, i could b wrong but i cant c him coming, maybe not the best manager but i like his personality, he isnt an arrogant prick like pardew was

If you are smart, you do. You sign a long term contract which the new owners have to honour even if they sack you.

Comment #31So I guess the takeover is off , Steve Bruce won’t leave a cushy job where he’s relatively well thought of for a 1 year contract ( presuming not clickbait)
He’s about the level where we are and have been since SBR , we can moan all we like but we are generally shite under Ashley – I think the boycott may get some traction for a game , maybe two but people will go back to suffer the same football we’ve had for Ashley’s reign and before , it’s their afternoon out supporting the only club / football they know and I have sympathy for them.
Does Ashley or Charnley care if we hate them … I’m guessing they think we’re deluded for wanting hope – home game atmosphere will be worse than ever and it wasn’t often that good before – personally I’ll only attend away games and I never shop in his chav shops anyway …
Yeah, I know I’m not creating any new argument here or room for debate but I ended up going for work drinks and ended up depressed instead of happy … You kin fat foooook Ashley and Charnley – I hope you both for a long and horrible death and very soon … Anyone who defends charnley as just a yes man is wrong – he’s complicit in the whole Ashley regime and it’s worse he’s from the area

Comment #33How deluded would Bruce have to be to accept the job and honestly think he could succeed – the crowd will be on his back from minute one – remember the game where Pardew could not leave the bench because of the crowd – this will be worse – how could we possibly sink so low so fast from Rafa to Bruce – would probably do a better job if you drew a seat number out of a hat and the (un) lucky fan got to take training, pick and manage the team the next week – if Bruce has an agent taking a look at the various forums to try and gauge the fans feelings – tell him there would be no honeymoon period, we view him as another loser journeyman who would always be in Rafa’s shadow

Comment #36Fans are fickle – if Bruce started with a 5 match winning run fans would begrudgingly accept him – he’ll talk the game – you can’t blame Bruce or Joselu ( which bizarrely people are – a disgrace 8n my opinion ), Newcastle is seen as a great job or contract for those who aren’t do good , obviously for anyone decent it’s poison

Comment #37There are 114 points to be played for in a season.
To date Bruce has a win ratio of 38.5% mostly across easier leagues
Does that equate to a 43 point return ?
Too close to call
Need more than that just for 12th or better
Lacking ambition ?
Been here before

Would you take a job of him ?

Comment #38I’m telling you all , Ashley sets high level work within the club’s means – it’s charnley who takes it a level further – he’s totally the one to blame because he is the one who says yes/ no – Ashley barely gets involved unless we’re relegated other than to say Charley ain’t getting his bonus ( hence his wife’s drunken message)

Comment #39Just been set the following question as an assignment in my Masters in Fakeover studies and was wondering if anyone could help.
You are the owner of a premier league football club who has just lost their world class manager with a proven track record of success over many years both in the premier league and throughout Europe. Describe in no more than 500 words the series of catastrophic events and ludicrous scenarios that would have to take place for you to decide two weeks later that you will appoint Steve Bruce.
