Report – Steve Bruce To Be Appointed Manager In Next Few Days

Luke Edwards of the Telegraph is now reporting in an exclusive that Newcastle United will, in fact, appoint Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce as the successor to Rafa Benitez.

This is the tweet from the Telegraph with a link to the report.

The report states that Newcastle will look to appoint Bruce before the China trip on July 13th. However, there are still some issues to be dealt with.

This is what Luke Edwards writes:

It remains to be seen whether Bruce will be able to go on Newcastle’s pre-season trip to the Far East because of visa issues but if he can agree personal terms, the club will endeavour to ensure he is able to meet the players for the first time in China next week.

So it has been left to the last minute as we suspected and this is still not a done deal. But it is looking likely that Steve Bruce will be announced in the next few days.

Edwards also reports that Bruce is the only candidate to be offered the job officially.

Newcastle looked at several other candidates, including Manchester City assistant manager Mikel Arteta and Nice boss Patrick Vieira, although Bruce is the only person to have been officially offered the job despite claims from Sam Allardyce that he turned it down.

If it is Steve Bruce to replace Rafa Benitez, so be it. We hope he is backed in the transfer window as this club is sorely lacking in attack and at both fullback positions.

What is really depressing is not the manager, it is the owner. This appointment likely means the takeover is not happening anytime soon, if at all.

It’s just so underwhelming and such a massive letdown. Sober reality is beginning to set in. It’s Steve Bruce under Mike Ashley.

Now we need some signings to make sure we stay up. There are still some quality players available if Newcastle can convince them.

It’s not the fans fault mate, it’s Ashley’s. Many like me bought their ST in March, thinking Rafa would be here. Don’t let him split us, they hate him too, I guarantee it.

I personally will get behind Bruce 100% and wish him all the best.He will know what he is coming to and things start going wrong straight away..A shite storm is coming.
And even if he gets 30-40 mill to spend on the front two it’s only gonna bring us back to par,Whereas everyone is improving again

Who the fcuk would “get behind Bruce 100%”? Do people really have so little self-respect they would follow this husk of a club, this “Sports Direct FC”?

Honestly, the problem with anything in this world begins – and ends – with the bloody idiotic people who live in it.

It’s good to see the boys step, agreed that stokes, Rashid and Wood need to pick up where archer and woakes finished off. Carey and smith go then it should be formality

On Bruce I also agree, dont want him but will still back him as manager and hope he does a decent enough job to keep us up

Barring any last minute hitches, what like? Him saying foot that for a game of soldiers when they finally get round to asking him? OR when they find out that it is actually going to cost 5M pounds and that they’re not going to pay us to be rid of him?

Bruce is no Newcastle man if he takes this Job.

He will then come out and say ‘ooh I couldn’t refuse it, it’s me childhood club’ just wait that’s exactly what he will say. Funny it was you’re childhood club the first time too, when you turned your nose up at us Brucie.

Get Bruce in. Closely followed by Welbeck. Get rid of Rafa’s combined £20m duds in Murphy and Muto. See if we can get half our money back. Get rid of other deadwood. Spend £50-80m before deadline day on a Perez replacement, another ST and CM.

Kick off the season against Arsenal:

    ————————–Dubs
    ———-Schar——-Lascelles——-Dummett
    Yedlin-_——————————————————Ritchie
    ———————Hayden——-Shelvey
    ——————————–Longstaff
    ——————————–Almiron
    ——————————-Welbeck

Bundles of energy, running power and counterattacking punch in that team. Shelvey back in the team with players to seek out in the spaces behind, Longstaff allowed more freedom to get forward.

    Newcastle 2 Arsenal 1 – boycott fizzles.

So pen pushing Charnley apparently hand picked Bruce.

What the hell does Charnley know about managers.

Did he read about Bruces successes?
Does he know bruce has previous history with toon fans?
Does he understand Bruce will need a lot money than Rafa if we’re aiming to stay up?

I nearly bought Steve Bruce’s parents’ house last year. He’s a nice guy, but I don’t think he’s a good fit for NUFC.
If a takeover IS ACTUALLY in the final stages why would BZG appoint Bruce as a manager for their first season? If this is Ashleys choice it makes perfect sense. He has gone for a cheap option, with a manager that won’t say no to him. Any which way I look at this situation it stinks. Ashley has told Charnley to get someone in who’ll do as they’re told, and to get a couple of cheap loans in to bolster the squad.
Prepare for another season of scraping our knuckles down the bottom of the table. If the fans allow this with no backlash, and support the team against Arsenal, then I’m done. Ashley has played NUFC fans for mugs YET AGAIN! Bruce will cost money to remove him from SW, and even more when he fails to do a good job with an underfunded team, and then even more when he is removed from his position for not managing to keep us afloat. What happened to M’bappe, Mourinho, Wesley Moraes…god there’s not even any links to Townsend this year! This has been another standard window for us, and we all fell for it. Again. *Palm face*

On a positive note about the man. Before a reserve game at St Andrews when we had the ignorance of Souness in-charge .. it was only Steve Bruce the then manager of Birmingham that came over to thank the few Toon Supporters that came to watch.
And if I remember we lost that game as the brummy outfit put two past Krul in his first run out.
All I’m trying to say he’s definitely B&W with passion .. BUT being in the shoes for this role is another matter.

Bruce would be daft to turn the job down, he’ll never get another chance to manage the club and nor will he ever get a bigger job in his career in the future.

If he does keep us up and the club is sold next year……big if on both!! Then his gamble will have paid off

It was Bruce all along in Charnley’s eyes.
All the other alleged candidates were just tittle tattle, a smoke screen, a diversion, a lie.
Charnley told Ashley Bruce was the easy and cheap option so that’s what was agreed.
Even I know what’s coming next week.
Once Bruce has met the players and the China Tour is over the BZG talk will vanish and that’ll be the end of the beginning of the end.

Of course Bruce could tell Charnley to naff off.
Why do I think that’s now unlikely.

    Father I have sinned.
Why have you sinned my son ?
I’ve been having dreams of a successful well run and respected Newcastle United trying to win trophies.
    That’s awful my son.
Say three “Fail Mikey’s”and don’t go to the ground again.
    Eternal damnation.

Bruce is a Championship manager at best. We’re a PL team – not club not under Ashley. Why would anybody thing Bruce is remotely good enough for us? He’s the last manager we would want. Not good enough and wanted to play a special record when they beat us whilst at Sunlun. Never happened because they didn’t beat us under Bruce, but he planned it. Wanted Manure to beat us in the final. Proper Geordie eh? He’s being brought it to insult us by a creep who is willing to sacrifice millions to get back at us. #Boycott Arsenal #emptyground and whatever else is suitable.

It’s a very deliberate attempt by Ashley to kill the club, by setting it up for relegation, ensuring there’s a fire sale, taking back his loan through messing with the books (i.e. the £30m that “disappeared”) before flogging the carcass in the Championship for a minor loss.

I reckon he could get £80m – £100m for a mid-table Championship NUFC, effectively “losing” £34m – but he will know SD will have benefited from around £80m of free advertising since he took over and so he’ll still ensure that, whatever happens, Mike Ashley wins and FCUK everybody else.

I’d say it’s logical to suggest that the takeover has fallen through. Likely due to the Ashley side of things. Hard to pinpoint when exactly but now that we’re moving for a new manager all bets are off. Still stuck with Ashley. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Just look at other clubs that have been seamlessly taken over. We’re absolutely unique in the fact that the talks always break down. It’s obvious who the problem is.

A cheap option who Ashlie knows will upset the fan base. Do not feel sorry for Bruce – he is a NUFC fan ?? who is coming in to work for a man who is destroying the club. Survival is the only goal. Does Bruce honestly feel he can improve this side with bargain basement signings more than Benitez could ? Survival and Bruce knows that !!!
People questioning why SKY, LMA, Premier League and FA not interested in his running of the club ! If it was homophobic,
religious or race related Ashlie would be publicly hung. The fact this man is creaming hundreds of millions from the sport and deceiving and lieing to cash paying football punters every season without any retribution defies belief.
