The Guardian Reports Longstaff On Verge Of Exit In Article About Steve Bruce

The following tweet has lit a bit of a firestorm on Twitter as now many accounts are reporting that Sean Longstaff is leaving Newcastle imminently.

We looked at the Guardian report on this breaking news but it was an afterthought in an article about Steve Bruce’s pending announcement as the next Newcastle manager.

This is what Paul Wilson writes in the second to last paragraph of an article titled “Steve Bruce close to taking Newcastle job after asking to hold talks”.

Newcastle spent most of last season in the bottom third of the Premier League, eventually saved by Benítez’s organisational ability and goals from Ayoze Pérez and Salomón Rondón, though all three have left along with the out-of-contract midfielder Mohamed Diamé. No players have been signed, and Newcastle are on the verge of parting with the midfield prospect Sean Longstaff to Manchester United.

There is only one mention of Sean Longstaff’s name in the entire article and it is that “Newcastle are on the verge of parting with the midfield prospect Sean Longstaff to Manchester United”.

That is the only reference to Sean Longstaff. The entire article is about Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce. We would have thought this news would have warranted its own article.

This is after reports yesterday from Sky Sports that Sean Longstaff was categorically not for sale.

There was also a report in the Manchester Evening News that Sean Longstaff was behind other midfielders at the moment.

With the information available to us, we are going to err on the side of being positive on this one and hope that Longstaff remains at the club. It would just break the laws of physics for Steve Bruce to come in as Sean Longstaff exits for Manchester United.

Interesting thought the next Mike. I’m not so sure. This really has gotten bizarre so anything might happen. We’re clearly in a tailspin though and Charnley certainly isn’t going to save us. He hasn’t got a clue as we all know. I don’t think the next club moves are predictable at all. If we get thumped routinely in pre-season it might make a difference but I wouldn’t count on it.

So Ashley really doesn’t see the correlation between poor quality managerial signings and poor club performance, sometimes leading to relegation? Interesting. Who exactly gives him advice again?

This talk about X million amount transfer kitty plus player sales is pointless if the manager is/will not be able to spend it how he wants.

If we don’t end up selling Longstaff it’s only because we’re letting his value build up. I hate to be the cynic but that is extremely obvious.

I’m just having trouble separating the truth from the shkupi jazzy mate. And all the in the knows have disappeared for some mysterious reason. Surely they can explain having to hire a new (poor) manager when the sale is actually just about to be announced?

Is Ashley such a small minded spotty chav that he thinks he’s getting his own back on Shearer for calling him out ? Appoint his mate Bruce then watch the fall out ?

If Shearer is so vehemently anti-Ashley then he is honour bound to tell Bruce ~ “walk away with you dignity intact”

Bruce then has to decide. His decision.
It’s like being invited to Ashley’s tea party where you have to bring your own food or staying at home and enjoying some Yorkshire Tea and Fat Rascals.

Wonder where the new training ground and academy will be built ?

    botcott arsenal @42
    from nufc.com
The Mail piece speculated that Allardyce rejected the offer after learning of his limited input into transfers and that fellow old boy Kevin Nolan (also currently out of work) was lined up as his No.2.

That’s the same Nolan who went on talkSPORT last week spouting ludicrous pro-Ashley propaganda.

With the shite that the cretin you have worshipped over the last twelve years has provided us we’ve had anywhere from a minus 15 to a minus 23 GD, we’ve shipped seven, been beaten 6-0 at home a couple of times, shipped five countless times, call your self a Newcastle fan, you are footin shameless, go and boil your head in your SD mug you clown!!!

If you’ve had enough. Do something about it.

If you feel it’s not your club anymore. Do something about it.

    Do something about it.

Disclaimer: I’ve not read up on the blog today so that last section is not aimed at anyone.

A collective of NUFC fan groups have come together to try and do something about it. Why not get in touch with them about any ideas you may have, any groups you are part of or can supply expertise in aligned areas.

What a load of the brown stuff. He’s also guessing BZG don’t have the money for the takeover. How would he know what they can raise?

So all the good work that Rafa has done is likely to get ripped apart in one very painful summer.

Longstaff leaving would be a huge kick in the teeth, even if it is for 30 million.

We know Hayden will be off too.

I just can’t see how we get rid of the fat man, either it would take a huge takeover bid or back to back relegations for him to leave. Relegation won’t hurt him that much due to the parachute payments, scary to think that there are worse owners out there but at least they are usually gone in 2-3 years!!

I hope everyone unites and boycotts the Arsenal game, just watch it at home or in the pub, or go watch gateshead, blyth, whickham or south shields. Sure the majority would be back for the next match but would love to see the fallout it would cause just for one game.

Actually relegation is devastating geordie157. Check back. We had huge drops in revenue in the relegation years that are only partly compensated for by the parachutes. I think it’s up to 48M a year now isn’t it? That’s peanuts compared to the Prem TV contract alone.
