The Guardian Reports Longstaff On Verge Of Exit In Article About Steve Bruce

The following tweet has lit a bit of a firestorm on Twitter as now many accounts are reporting that Sean Longstaff is leaving Newcastle imminently.

We looked at the Guardian report on this breaking news but it was an afterthought in an article about Steve Bruce’s pending announcement as the next Newcastle manager.

This is what Paul Wilson writes in the second to last paragraph of an article titled “Steve Bruce close to taking Newcastle job after asking to hold talks”.

Newcastle spent most of last season in the bottom third of the Premier League, eventually saved by Benítez’s organisational ability and goals from Ayoze Pérez and Salomón Rondón, though all three have left along with the out-of-contract midfielder Mohamed Diamé. No players have been signed, and Newcastle are on the verge of parting with the midfield prospect Sean Longstaff to Manchester United.

There is only one mention of Sean Longstaff’s name in the entire article and it is that “Newcastle are on the verge of parting with the midfield prospect Sean Longstaff to Manchester United”.

That is the only reference to Sean Longstaff. The entire article is about Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce. We would have thought this news would have warranted its own article.

This is after reports yesterday from Sky Sports that Sean Longstaff was categorically not for sale.

There was also a report in the Manchester Evening News that Sean Longstaff was behind other midfielders at the moment.

With the information available to us, we are going to err on the side of being positive on this one and hope that Longstaff remains at the club. It would just break the laws of physics for Steve Bruce to come in as Sean Longstaff exits for Manchester United.

Yep, that’s for sure Geordie157. So few decent journo’s that actually do the work necessary to get a real story. Most of them should be writing teen romance novels.

I cant see there being any truth in Bruce coming (I said same about Rafa)

I feel pretty confident it’s a wind up.

I’m lost for words here about what’s going on with this club, right now, I can only describe it like walking in on my brother and dad double teaming my pregnant wife while my mother films it all ready for broadcast.

Don’t worry OP, I will step in with my team if things get too horrible with Steve the Bruce. I’ve already got my formation thought out and which 11 will start (unless we sell them of course). Advice is welcome on tactics….

Agree with hw we finished the season mate strongly, But for the best part the football was dire mate as was the season before. Mashley doesn’t want the club to succeed bud, All he wants is to do is advertise his tat and take us for every penny he can.

Fans will realise how lucky we were to have Rafa and the miracles he performed with what he had to work with so no surprises he called it a day.

We’ve been a very depressing club to support since Ashley walked into town, Rafa gave us at least some hope during his 3 year contract.

Obviously Ash has decided to press the self distruct button once again , cashing in some key players. Hiring a championship manager.
He’s clearly sticking two fingers up at the fans, pity most let him get away with it.

Ashley has probably struck a deal with Greggs for a percentage of their increased profits. Will more than cover any compo he has to pay to Sheffield Wed.

GeordieTwo yeah don’t you know Keith downie is the real oracle either that or he must have stolen BZG bank login details to borrow a few quid til pay day. That man is throwing crap and seeing if it sticks. Man’s a total tool. As is MA only on a much greater scale.

With MA moving the goalposts, the only way I can see a takeover happening is if two consortium’s join forces and shift the lard arse. Either that or somebody takes a hit out on MA, I’m sure we could all chip in with a few quid for a good cause, lol.

ManU interested in young Longstaff? Oh yes, as they’ll be buying up more young talent.

Some lights say that’s what Ashley wants to do but, err there’s a not unsubtle difference; ManU have quality in their squad and they’re adding young talent for the future – not to sell for a bit of a profit.

We all know that they and most other clubs aim for success in the field and thus see that as the vehicle for making loadsamoney whereas Ashley……… Nuff said.

Best of luck to the lad who’ll prove to be another Gazza or Waddle and rank among the ex Newcastle players who’ve become greats at other clubs.

So BZG allegedly said balls in Ashley’s court , Ashley has a history of just moving on and saying nowt – was there ever a serious bid ?
Doesn’t matter as Ashley will just say they didn’t have the money (despite him continuously moving goalposts), we’re stuck with him – I’ve no idea what contract Bruce is on at Wednesday , if it’s a 1 year rolling then clearly it’s no where near 5 million compensation – even 3 years would be way less than that

A genuinely hope your right, I hope fans stick together on this.
But I think we’ll find once the dust has settled SJP will be full once again, there maybe a bit of chanting towards Ash, which he is too thick skinned to care about. Normal budget football will resume, with survival being classed as a successful season.
I’ve had enough to be honest.

RL I have to agree with you and I could be wrong. I even have my doubts about Bruce. The reporting is not consistent. Reports of his location very from each individual site. When/if he signs and is trotted out in front of press I will believe it. Then if that happens the terms of the contract will tell us if the takeover is still on or not. I personally don’t believe anything about this club anymore until I see the player in the shirt or the coach on the grounds. Being on the other side of the ocean on the other side of the US makes this sometimes difficult but I still see enough signs to believe that the takeover is on at some level. I think some of this is reports to keep the press off of the actual story.

i say good it was a vast improvement on the first half of the season

the whole situation is stupid and any1 who says its not done out of spite needs there head shaking

if it is true perez wanted out and there really was a 30 mill release clause he, half that sale would have been enough to start the improvements rafa wanted, the rest into his kitty he prob would have taken that

ok if you gonna keep giving sd free advertising bring in some1 like kenyon someone who can help us bring in other avenues of income

and before you pipe up jib saying they are paying for advertising i have yet to see proof

jazzy with rafa at the helm a happyish medium could have been found now we are just being kicked while we are down

They’re already spreading jam on the appointment with a big transfer budget etc. Just to buy off the fans for another season of income. See if it happens though.
