Kristy Edwards, a sports reporter for Sky Sports, has sent out confirmation that Steve Bruce has traveled to Lincoln City today for Sheffield Wednesday’s preseason match.
Here is the tweet she has sent:

In what has to be an awkward situation for Steve Bruce and his club, he will manage the team today as Mike Ashley tries to get Dejphon Chansiri to lower the compensation fee.
At some point soon, there will have to either be a breakthrough or breakdown in discussions. We are hoping for the latter as Steve Bruce is just not good enough. Plain and simple.
If these talks do breakdown, or if Bruce just pulls the plug himself and gets on with the Owls, where do Newcastle turn?
We are not certain of anyone now being interested in the Newcastle manager’s position. We had thought of Garry Monk but he has come off three contentious spells at his last three clubs, and we’re not even certain he would bother to deal with Ashley at this point.
Our hope is that the negotiations for Bruce do fail to materialize, and the club search outside their current restrictions of only considering managers with recent Premiership experience.
Maybe they have not even considered someone like Quique Sanches Flores or Rudi Garcia and could approach them with promises of a large transfer budget.
That would be better than Steve Bruce and might restore some sense of optimism to the fans.
It is highly doubtful. Ashley is more likely to give Alan Pardew total control and £100m to spend then get in someone like Rudi Garcia.

Word in the presser is that Bruce has turned down the chance to manage his boyhood club

Comment #3I’d rather have Fiona Bruce. She’s smarter, probably a better motivator and would be more welcome than Steve.

Comment #6And I’d rather Christopher Nolan as the number 2. At least he could probably sign Batman to play as a striker for us.
Would imagine his Inception inspired team tactics sessions would be a little complicated though….

Comment #8At the time when Pardew moved to Palace, and left us with Carver, everyone laughed at Palace for paying compo to us for Pardew. I think it was something in the range of £6M-£8M.
If we pay compo for Bruce, reportedly in the £5M range, that would be right up there on the list of top embarrassments under Ashley.

Comment #12Markaccus, Jail and the rest,..
So NUFC are the only stepping stone club in the league??
What part of reality don’t you get??
EVERY club bar the top 6 in England are a stepping club.
I bet 95% of the top players in EVERY club have been sold because they wanted to play for a top side and get the wages those clubs will pay.
And, even the top 6, not just in this country, are often feeder clubs for the likes of Real, Barcelona and PSG.
Many agents won’t allow their top up and coming players to sign contracts for more than three years because they know if they do well the big clubs will come calling and with a shorter unexpired contract the fee will be lower and they and the player can trouser another big deal.
MA tried to stop that with 5 year contracts and its the reason why we got, at the time, the overvalued fees for Wini and Sissoko.
You need to pull your heads out of your ar$es and stop trying to kid yourself that Ashley invented or transformed us into a feeder club – he didn’t.
It’s called the REALITY of modern football.
And just because I don’t blame the FCB for everything under the sun doesn’t make my wanting him out any less true.
That’s what the demented, obsessive Jail can’t get his cabbaged head around.

Suddick. Pop Robson, McDermott, Kennedy, Supermac, Gasgoigne, Waddle, Beardsley, Cole, Les Ferdinand, Ginola… all of the top players we’ve had… were all sold.
And, every single one of them was a better player than any that we’ve sold in the last 12 years.
Ashley transformed us into a feeder club.
Utter nonsense.

NEVER IN THE WORLD!!!!
That’s EXACTLY my point.
We’ve ALWAYS been a feeder club…
That’s why we’ve never won the league since 1927…
Never won the FA Cup since 1955….
Never ever won the League Cup…
And last won a trophy, the Fairs Cup, in 1969 – 50 fkn years ago.
And Ashley transformed us into a feeder club???

OK, a feeder club is one thing, but we are about to become a yo yo feeder club, which will eventually make it impossible to attract even the players who are using us as a stepping stone, so then we will just be a yo yo club.
Yay. Sounds great.

Worth his weight in gold at championship level. Proven he can help push clubs to the next level in that league. Unable to make step up to premier league level however. Much like Gayle.

Comment #31The thing is in these days where the Premier League is the richest in the world, by all accounts, why should we be a selling club? According to the figures I’ve seen in the press we are in the top twenty richest clubs in the world. So why should we sell our best players?
Not only that, but how come we only recently broke our own record signing fee which was Michael Owen over a decade ago. It stinks and only the blind don’t see it. You see the pattern there?
