Newcastle Lose Two To Injury In 1-1 First Half At Molineux

Newcastle have put in a performance so far at Molineux this afternoon but have again suffered an injury crisis with two players picking up knocks. Bruce was forced to replace Paul Dummett and Dwight Gayle with more muscle injuries.

Newcastle came out in a 5-4-1 with Joelinton on the right and Almiron on the left. Dwight Gayle led the line, but Joelinton moved upfront with him when in possession. Isaac Hayden again played in defense, this time at right wing-back.

It didn’t take long for Newcastle to take an early lead. Minutes after firing a shot wide, Miguel Almiron got his third goal for Newcastle. Jetro Willems did well down the left flank to get a cross in that found Dwight Gayle.

Gayle did brilliantly to get the ball to the trailing Almiron, who obliged with another outstanding finish. He’s in some goalscoring form now.

Paul Dummett’s return to the team lasted all of 12 minutes as he was forced off with another injury. Florian Lejeune was brought on for Dummett, but the Frenchman moved into the middle of the back three with Ciaran moving to the left.

Very poor defending led to the equalizer just a few minutes later. On a corner, Federico Fernandez didn’t close down Leander Dendoncker quick enough, and the ball fell to the Belgian who tapped it past Dubravka.

Newcastle continued to play well but were forced to make a second change when Dwight Gayle suffered a hamstring injury in the 28th minute. The 29-year-old was replaced by Christian Atsu. It was the best we’d seen of Dwight all season as he was causing Wolves problems with his movement and work rate.

Martin Dubravka was called into action to save Newcastle once again as he made a spectacular save on a Raul Jimenez header from point-blank range in the 34th minute.

Joelinton received treatment on the pitch in the 38th minute with what looked like a groin injury. Andy Carroll was out warming up, but the Brazilian was able to continue.

We hope Newcastle emerge from the tunnel without having to make a third change before the second half like against Leicester City. They’ll also need to be ready for a likely Wolves surge in this second-half.

At St James Park, Wolves came out and were outstanding in the second half to get a 1-1 draw. Hopefully, that is fresh in Steve Bruce’s mind and he can have the lads ready.

Aye, the sheer amount of the same type of injuries must point to the fitness and conditioning training methods surely.
Could do with a medical person on here to spread some light on it

the usual decent 15mins spell and then collapse all the way.
wolves also play with 3 at the back but why do they look so dynamic in their attack while we are toothless as usual.

    Jesus.
First Willems continuing to be an invisible man in defence and then Hayden slicing his clearance until Matty hacks it off the line.

Not confident we can show anything like what we did at the start of the first half due to the enforced changes.

Ritchie should have been 1of the 2 subs. Better option than either Lejeune or Atsu even if it meant a change of system if he came on for Dummett.

We’re so predictable in all our movement and decision making, so frustrating to watch.

I mentioned a few weeks ago the one thing Bruce is doing differently to Rafa is fitness. The players are doing loads of fitness work because Bruce needs them fitter than the opposition.

This is taking its toll, I heard Yedlin had made his point to Bruce – he was dropped.

I am sure it was just a coincidence – although Bruce has to keep his players in check, I agree with that.

Atsu really should try to get into the game more and show more confidence. he’s simply hiding away and completely useless. just look at almiron.

Atsu needs to show more desire on and off the ball like Almiron does. For a player that is considered so fast he looks sluggish every time I see him.

Really want us to sign Lookman and send Atsu to the bench!

Atsu is stunningly inept. HIs job is to run around a bit and ensure each move breaks down when it comes to him.

Good article that Reilly, cheers mate.

He seems to have a credible CV.

However, he says it’s geared around what the muscles go through on matchday in order to prevent what we see occurring at the minute!

    Does make you wonder

Atsu is a complete waste of space. doesn’t even bother finding space and just silts around where defenders surround him.

    league 1 player.

Atsu doesn’t look for space because he doesn’t want to be passed to. Gouffan used to do the same.. albeit better finisher.

You can kind of see the potential of our team if we could buy that pacy striker with movement!

Looked quite good with Gayle making runs and Almiron , Joelinton moving into the space!

Atsu unfortunately is what he is a 5 million punt to get us out the championship he was meant to have been upgraded years ago but Ashley would never sanction a player like Townsend to replace him hopefully if we do get Lookman in he will be an upgrade!?

Lookman loves to beat his man just like Saint-Maximin and the complete opposite of Atsu. Just what we need. Him along with a pacy, clinical ST and we will be much much stronger.

atsu is just hiding. doesn’t want the ball at all. hayden has the ball at the byline and instead of cutting inside and looking for space he just stands on the byline as well.

    completely useless player.

Get Joleinton off for Carroll. Ball just bounces off him most of the time, be it his head or feet.

Almiron’s nickname should be The Hornet. Not only has he scored the goal and likely covered the most ground, he has made the most tackles.
