BBC Pundit Mark Lawrenson has made his predictions for the Fourth Round of the FA Cup. He has selected Newcastle for a 2-0 win over Oxford.
Here is his prediction in full:
The way Newcastle have pinched points so late on in their last two league games will have been devastating for their opponents but it shows the belief and spirit the Magpies have got, which is great.
Newcastle surely won’t need to leave it to the death to get a result in this tie, though.
Oxford are still at the top end of League One but their form has dropped off a little bit and they are still waiting for their first league win of 2020.
Newcastle needed a replay to get past Rochdale in round three, but they should get the job done at St James’ Park, and before you know it they could be on a cup run.
Oxford are fifth in League One just 6 points behind Dan Barlaser and Rotherham, who occupy the top spot. They’ve drawn their last two league matches after losing the first two of 2020. However, they do have a resounding 4-1 win at Hartlepool in the FA Cup third round under their belt.
Newcastle have turned things around and are unbeaten the last five, including the two FA Cup ties against Rochdale. Steve Bruce will still have some selection headaches with nine players ruled out, including Paul Dummett and Jetro Willems.
We’ll likely see some youngsters in the matchday squad again, but Bruce should have enough to field a decent side. The head coach has proven so far that he’s prioritizing the FA Cup this season.
With a week between this match and the next Premier League fixture, Bruce will not have to worry too much about saving players for Norwich.
What Will Be The Result Against Oxford In The Fourth Round Of The FA Cup?
- Win (92%, 4,460 )
- Loss (4%, 213 )
- Draw (4%, 192 )

To be fair to Danny Mills, Munster had been calling Almiron a flop for awhile now, seems to have eased up on that now.

Comment #5Jail, when all else fails, lie. You love the attention in your little world don’t you? I think I said once that miggy looked brainless or something but I love him now. That might not be allowed in your world?

Take it week by week
He is what he is
Right now he’s the man who has us challenging for a very high league position, touching distance of a European spot in fact.
Who knows what’s to come, could be in the dogfight by mid March
Enjoy his success while it’s here

Comment #13Thanking Lee charnley is like thanking Mike Ashley.
For someone that claims to know who the real problem is at nufc, thanking charnley is a funny way to go about it!
Is charnley looking after the best interests of Newcastle United or Mike Ashley?

Comment #14I hate to say it, but the club’s management do deserve credit for the way we’ve gone about this transfer window. We’ve identified targets of quality and brought them in in good time and at reasonable cost.
Fair play to Nickson for the first part and fair play to Bruce and Charnley for the second.
I now know why Ashley came up to such fanfare, not because he had any influence on the transfers but because he wanted his name associated with them. Now that is PR at it’s finest.
If only they could have pulled their fingers out of their backsides and done all this when Rafa was still around. Too little too late? Time will tell.

The game ended with Burley defeating Manchester United 2-0

Comment #18“League One promotion-chasers Oxford are without several injured players, including James Henry, Cameron Brannagan and Matty Taylor.”

these are 3 of Oxford’s 4 highest goal scorers in league matches having scored 20 of Oxford’s 43 goals between them.

You mentioned a few articles back that you bet Bentaleb had fallen out with Matt Ritchie. I read It as he had fallen out with a few people elsewhere ie at Schalke. If it was at Newcastle I would be a bit worried that he has had a few disagreements already at the toon. Bad egg and all that. What do others think?

Comment #23This window actually proves, as did the summer window following our relegation, that the club do know how to conduct good transfer business effectively and efficiently, which makes the nonsense we’ve seen for the majority of the past thirteen years even harder to take.
They’re not incompetent after all, just willfully neglectful.

Comment #25Not making stuff up and not lying, Munster was repeatedly saying that Almiron was starting to look like a poor signing, I argued that he turned our season around that year and hasn’t just become a bad player. Poor signing/flop potato tomato.

Comment #31Well I take it all back, it seems Ashley has turned a corner. Charnley going after the top players quickly for the good of the club.
It’s nice how they can move fast for Steve Bruce.
The ambition shown is fantastic and I’m sure after 13 years this is it, we will become the new Leicester city.
(As I can’t do emoji’s that was a sarcastic comment above)

Comment #32Oxford manager Karl Robinson: “It will be our biggest crowd since the 1980s and whatever the rest of the season has in store for us we have certainly ticked off a lot of boxes already.
“We have made headway in a shorter space of time than I probably expected. I thought it might take a little longer to get to where we are but there is always work to be done.
“It is one of the best grounds in the country and we won’t change the way we play. That’s not naive or stupid. If you are building a club with a philosophy you have to test it against the best.
“Newcastle will find weaknesses in it, which we can rectify going forward, but if you have a style why change? If you do and you lose heavily then players will question why we have come away from what we believe in.”
i don’t know what Oxford’s philosophy but it sounds like it could be attacking [which we can rectify going forward], sounds as if they will be trying to outscore us.

Comment #33I don’t remember exactly who’s said what, but the majority of people on here where calling Almiron, but I expect it from the majority here, all fickle as hell… I am surprised half of you don’t jump ship and support who is ever going to be heads on for the title each year.. Pretty pathetic 🙂

We’re bottom of possessions won in the final third
And top of clearances made
Dubravka averages the most saves per game
Palace and Sheffield United average less shots per game
7th in the clean sheets table

Comment #40I would say there was a good deal of frustration regarding Almiron’s lack of goals, but his work rate and running for the team always got him a start.
