January Is Important – We Need To Do Some Transfer Business

Friday, December 26th, 2014 · 9 Comments

Alan Pardew has dropped hints over the last week that he wants Newcastle to do some business in the January transfer window, which will open next Thursday – in just 6 days time.

Alan Pardew – January is important – we need to do some business

But of course Pardew doesn’t control that part of the Newcastle business and it’s Managing Director Lee Charnley who’s in charge, assisted always by owner Mike Ashley, who has the final say on who leaves the club and who comes in during every transfer window.

This is what Alan Pardew told the press last night:

“West Ham away is tough, Arsenal we know is tough, Tottenham on the night with the injuries we had – that was tough.”

“Sunday we’ve lost a game we really wanted to win, maybe we’ve tried to hard to win it, that’s something we need to look at.”

“But I look at those four games as a basis and said we’ve got Man Utd now we must try to get a win.”

“Against the top teams we’ve done well, we’re ninth in the division. We’re not far away from the top.” “If we get a win it’s Everton and Burnley at home and it could put us in a great position.”

“I think this January is important. It’s important that big players come back to us – and we do some business.”

That last sentence is the most important thing Alan said – but it’s always difficult to get players in half way through the season.

And it depends on how much Newcastle want to strengthen the side, and two years ago when we are were in (big) relegation trouble, Mike Ashley rather magically had five Frenchmen brought in during January – and four of them in one week, after we had lost 2-1 at home to Reading.

So it may depend on how we do in the next three league games,  as to how serious Newcastle (also known as Mike Ashley) are about straightening the side.

Three wins and it would be unlikely, and three defeats would almost guarantee we bring at least one player in, and the results in January will also play a part as they did two years ago.

That’s the way Mike Ashley thinks – and his ambitions for the club are to keep Newcastle in the Premier League and in the big money.

And it would be good if we are in the upper half of the league table, so we don’t have to worry too much about relegation.

That seems to be the way Mike thinks about the club, and he only wants to spend money to strengthen the squad when it’s absolutely necessary.

But maybe that last sentence is being too harsh on the owner?

What do you think?

Alan Pardew has been talking about how Newcastle are a different side from the one that beat Manchester United 1-0 in the fixture at Old Trafford last season, when Yohan Cabaye scored the only goal of the game after 61 minutes.
