Tuesday, July 21st, 2015 · 133 Comments

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored 44 goals in 90 appearances for Alderlecht in the two years he was in Brussels, and he has just signed a five year contract with Newcastle that puts him on about £32K/week as a base salary, plus bonuses for a win and a draw.

His transfer fee was close to £12.5M – the fourth highest in Newcastle’s history for a young striker who turns 21 in September, and he has talked today about the Newcastle fans and his hero Alan Shearer,  admitting that he likes to play the way Alan played.

Mitrovic has also said he was a Newcastle fan while growing up in Serbia,  and knows all about Newcastle United’s ¨very big¨ history.

Mitrovic A Boyhood Newcastle Fan – I’m Happy, Proud And Excited

Tuesday, July 21st, 2015 · 62 Comments

We had pointed out yesterday that when Aleksandar Mitrovic was 16 years old four years ago and at Partizan Belgrade,  he was asked  what his favorite club was apart from Partizan,  and he said Newcastle United, and he was a big fan of Newcastle when young.

He knows all about a certain Alan Shearer, who he says was a big hero of his and he likes to play like Alan did.

Shearer continues to be a huge asset to Newcastle United when we are trying to get players through the door – it’s just a pity he’s not somehow part of the club in say an Ambassadorial role.

The young striker has spoken exclusively to nufcTV,  and he says he used to love pulling on that black and white shirt of Newcastle with his name on the back – well he’s going to do that many many times in the future, the more the better.

McClaren’s Praise For Experienced Newcastle Defender

Tuesday, July 21st, 2015 · 28 Comments

Steven Taylor had his first game for Newcastle on Saturday night in Sacramento  since he ruptured his Achilles  back on January 1st, and he was brought on in the second half against the Republic, in place of Jamal Lascelles.

And we thought he had a decent game, and looked solid at the back .

It was Steven who put a nice ball through to Haidara after he been on the pitch for just two minutes, and that resulted in an own goal that turned out to be the winner, after Massadio had put in a very good cross into the box.
