What Di Matteo Thinks Of Benitez As A Manager

Friday, September 23rd, 2016 · 20 Comments

Roberto Di Matteo had his press conference yesterday for the game tomorrow with Newcastle at Villa Park –  and he said he wasn’t all that surprised that Rafa eventually decided to stay on at Newcastle even though  we were relegated.

It was a decision that shocked a lot of pundits including Alan Shearer, who kept telling everybody there was no way Rafa would stay and manage a second division club because he would get offers pouring into him for his services – he’s that good.

Midfielder Determined To Improve As He Continues To Work Hard

One of our bargain buys of the summer – Mohamed Diame – tried a beautiful chip shot in the second half on Tuesday night against Wolves and the ball hit the cross-bar.

It was a terrific effort and that potential third goal would have killed the game for Newcastle.

We did go close a number of times in the second half but in the end settled for the 2-0 win and now entertain Preston North End in the 4th round.

Here’s A Strong Newcastle Side For Aston Villa

Friday, September 23rd, 2016 · 27 Comments

Rafa Benitez made eight changes to the side that were beaten last Saturday against Wolves and the team on Tuesday night looked a lot better than the team of last Saturday.

We lost to two poor goals in the league last Saturday, but won rather easily by the same scoreline 2-0 in the EFL Cup – with the defense looking a lot stronger.

It’s a very good question what team Rafa will start tomorrow at Villa Park and he seems spoiled for choice.

Newcastle Star – It’s A Massive Game – We Need 3 Points

Friday, September 23rd, 2016 · 2 Comments

It will be a tough game at Villa Park tomorrow afternoon even though Aston Villa under new manager Roberto Di Matteo have made a slow start to life in the Championship and are currently in 18th place in the league with 8 points from the first 8 games and only one win.

But Aston Villa will go all out to win the game tomorrow against one of the clubs who went down with them in  May.

Former Player On Who Is Key To Promotion For Newcastle

Friday, September 23rd, 2016 · No Comments

Scott Sellars played for Newcastle and the great Kevin Keegan for a couple of years from 1993 and he was part of Newcastle’s successful Division One winning side of 1992-1993 when we amassed 96 points in the 46 games and won the league by 8 points from West Ham United.

That was the first season of the Premier League and Division One was the second division in England – now called the Championship.

In that season 24 years ago we won 29 games of the 46 games and lost 9 and finished with a goal difference of +54.
