Oba – they’re not that funny – are they?

Sam has talked about Oba Martins and keeping a clean sheet on Sunday.
That could have been the story of the game against Man City last weekend.
Oba put us ahead with a wonderfully taken goal lose on the half hour mark and if we could have held on it was all 3 points in the bag.  But then the defense let us down with giving away 2 poor goals. That just cannot happen on Sunday.

Michael Owen was training today with his colleagues at the Benton training Facility in Newcastle.
Provided there are no ill effects, Sam says he will name the England striker in the Newcastle squad for Sunday’s home game with Everton.
Michael will train again tomorrow and it will be interesting to see if Sam will include him in his final 16 on Sunday.

Sam Allardyce hopes Newcastle can keep a clean sheet on Sunday because if we can that will almost guarantee that we will take all 3 points from visitors Everton.
Newcastle have a very good record at home this season and have conceded only one goal in their 4 home games so far while scoring 6.
Sam is also hoping to cash in on the possible fatigue among Everton’s players after their UEFA Cup exploits in Ukraine on Thursday.

Big Sam has been singing the praises of Big Mark Viduka, and rightly so.
Mark is a massive specimen at 6′ 2†and he is great at holding up the ball and playing it off and provides a very physical presence up front.
If Heskey is good playing with Michael Owen for England we see no reason at all why Viduka cannot be just as good a partner for Michael.

Here is our poll for the Newcastle team our readers would like to see Sam field against Everton on Sunday, in a most important game for Newcastle.
A defeat is unthinkable, but we can get a good win and get Newcastle back on track in the league.
Since Everton are on 13 points and Newcastle’s on 11 points we will move above them in the league with a win.

Sam talked today about the enthusiasm of Joey Barton and his desire to get into action for Newcastle as soon as possible, following his metatarsal injury, which he sustained almost 11 weeks ago.
But Sam is being wise in holding Joey back until he is fully match fit. It would be rather stupid to play Joey early, like on Sunday, and have him get injured again because he wasn’t really ready for full game action.
That sounds almost exactly what happened with Michael Owen playing for England last June in the World Cup, doesn’t it.

Sam Allardyce is experimenting with his squad to see what system works best and which players play well in different positions and with other players.
That seems interesting to us because it probably means a different looking team on Sunday against Everton and maybe Emre could get a start.
Sam has not changed the team around too much up to this point.
