Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce admitted that Reading were the better side in their 2-1 win earlier today – and he’s right about that.
However, Sam was also on the mark to insist his team should have claimed a point. That’s true, because when you are outplayed but the home side doesn’t take the chances they are offered, and you are level with 6 minutes to go – you should be only too happy to claim the point.
But we didn’t – instead we gave away a goal to Shane Long with schoolboy defending – but perhaps that’s being just too harsh – to the schoolboys.

Newcastle were beaten by Reading 2-1 at the Madejski stadium this afternoon and the home side thoroughly deserved their win and it could, and probably should have been by a bigger margin. This was because Reading missed multiple chances, and certainly not because Newcastle defended well. They didn’t.
In fact the Newcastle defending was abysmal again – just when we thought our defense was improving they remind us again they are still hopeless – it really was that bad. And we are not going to pull any punches on this performance.

At half time is was still all square at the Madejski stadium but Reading have had the better chances and Leroy Lita has missed two almost open goals, both of which he should have probably put in the net.
One thing is clear and that is Newcastle will have to raise their game as Reading should have been one – and maybe two goals up at the break.

Gary Megson has just taken over at Bolton Wanderers following the mutual agreement last week that former manager Sammy Lee and Bolton should part ways.
Gary immediately has paid huge compliments to the man who built Bolton Wanderers up from very little money to a top performing club. Sam Allardyce has never really got the full credit he deserves for his wonderful work at the Lancashire club.
This is an excellent appointment we think by Boltoln manager Phil Gartsiide and hopefully for all Bolton fans, Gary can have an immediate impact at the club.

With Newcastle’s squad now made up of players from different countries, cultures and languages – it’s important they have but a single language to communicate with in training.
Not surprisingly, Sam has said that language will be English so when they are on the training field or have meetings about the upcoming opposition, everything is communicated in English.
And each player has to get to know how to speak the English language – quickly.

Sam Allardyce - whoops, loooks like somebody just spoke French on the field

Paul Gilder of the Newcastle Journal has a fascinating interview this morning with Habib Beye.
The Senegalese international full-back, who Newcastle signed from Marseilles on the last day of the transfer window in August, talked to Paul in his ever improving English. But one thing that was not good to hear is that Habib and his family are still living in a hotel, which is not good.
For those of you who have had to put up with this in the past, it’s just very difficult, and the sooner Habib buys the house he wants in the Newcastle area, and moves in, the better for all concerned..
