On this spot every day we’ll include the four football quotes – and also have a question of the day. We’ll post the question on our Newcastle United Forum or we’ll highlight an existing topic that one of our readers has already posted that we find interesting.
We’ll also still include a nice picture at the end
Also, if any of our readers has a picture or art-work we can use for this section rather than the shirt above – let us know – thanks.

One of our up and coming youngsters, 20 year-old David Edgar has been made Newcastle Reserve Team captain by Lee Clark, our Reserves Team manager.
That’s a good move by Lee as it gives some added responsibility to David and will hopefully help him in his development.

Michael Owen has completed his two procedures at the German clinic on Friday and Saturday, and as we predicted there are already calls for him to play in the England qualifiers in mid-October.
That would really be tempting fate and to his credit that’s exactly what Michael thinks. He also believes playing for Newcastle has to be his priority – because we pay his wages.
Hey – we agree with that one too – let’s see what else Michael said.

Michael Owen – being sensible about his injury – even if the media isn’t

Let’s not be too doom and gloom about the game yesterday against an excellent Man City side. That Elano goal is still engrained in my mind – what a strike!
At half time the game was nicely balanced and it was anybody’s game at that point. But just like at Arsenal we became ragged in the second half and City started to come at us. The defense wasn’t as good as on Tuesday night, and certainly Sam wasn’t happy with our defensive performance.
But we have to be patient, we’re not as good as we think – at least not yet
We’ll get there – keep the faith. Now let’s take a look at what we learned yesterday and the good news is we learned a lot about our faults – which we can now start fixing.

Sam Allardyce admitted yesterday he had to make a “really difficult decision” when he named Shay Given in goal at Manchester City ahead of Steve Harper.
Irish international Given began the season injured with that groin strain, and his close friend and rival Steve Harper started all previous six Premier League games this season.
Shay of course played in the Carling Cup at Arsenal four days earlier and had a good game.

In a second successive performance in which Newcastle were pummeled for much of the second half, manager Sam Allardyce has made it clear it’s the team’s defensive performance that let the side down.
Newcastle did get the first goal and it was a tremendous effort from Oba Martins, who controlled the ball beautifully between the two static City central defenders, and then coolly lobbed it over the advancing Hart. A good start but unfortunately it didn’t last.
Let’s see what happened after Oba’s goal and what Big Sam had to say after the game.

Sam Allardyce blamed the defensive qualities of Newcastle today for the defeat, and is wasn’t just the back four who came in for criticism.
He also assigned responsibility for our poor defending to our midfield and even forwards – because they didn’t get the defensive job done today.
We agree with that.

Michael Owen could be fit for England’s European 2008 qualifiers, according to Sam Allardyce.
Owen had been expected to miss the England qualifiers against Estonia and Russia next month after having two operations, one on Friday and th other today.
But the surgery in Germany has been so successful that the England striker could be back in action in the next few days.

Michael Owen – surgery hugely successful, great, we need some good news after the game today
