Sam Has Work To Do At Newcastle

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 · 27 Comments

Here are some points we have noticed that Man City today ruthlessly exposed. But at least we have a good idea now what they are, so we can work on them.

One thing that was noticeable was the skill Sven Eriksson has quickly brought into the Man City side – so these skilfull players are available .

It’s OK getting tough no-nonsense players that can solidify our defense but even that was exposed today. We’d like to play more creative football and we need more creative players in the squad.

FT: Man City 3 Newcastle 1 – Magpies Ruthlessly Exposed

For the second time in 5 days Newcastle were beaten by a faster and more skillful team and were almost overrun in the second half. The first half was OK as a contest with Martins getting a great goal for us. To be truthful – but for two wonderful saves by the restored and brilliant Shay Given we could easily have been 3-1 down at the break.

Not that it helped us much since Man City were 2-1 up inside a minute or two of the restart with Petrov skinning Taylor down the left wing and putting over a beautiful cross for Mpenza to easily head home giving Given no chance. After that – to be fair – Newcastle tried with tremendous guts but all the players with skill and speed today were wearing pale blue – and Newcastle played in their famous black and white stripes.

On this spot every day – following some good comments and suggestions – we’ll include the four football quotes each day – and also have a question of the day. We’ll post the question on our Newcastle United Forum or we’ll highlight an existing topic that one of our readers has already posted that we find interesting. We’ll also still include a nice picture at the end :D
Also, if any of our readers has a picture or art-work we can use for this section rather than the shirt above – let us know – thanks.

England and Newcastle So Similar Over 40 Years

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 · 5 Comments

Sam Allardyce has talked about Eriksson’s England record ahead of our game today with Manchester City.

When you consider what Sam says it really does point out how similar England and Newcastle have been over the last 40 years or so – good teams with some great players, but cannot win anything.

Let’s see what Big Sam has been saying.

Steven Taylor – Newcastle Must Move On

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 · 6 Comments

Steven Taylor is as positive as ever and of course is now back in Newcastle’s starting line-up following the groin injury Cacapa sustained last Sunday. We still don’t have any return date on Claudio.

Steven will have to challenge for a first team place this season but he gave a solid performance on Tuesday night with one brilliant tackle in particular that deprived Arsenal of what looked like a certain goal.

Nobody can ever accuse Steven of not giving his all for Newcastle – let’s see what he said yesterday about our game with Manchester City, which starts in a short 5 hours.

Newcastle United and the Actim Index

Saturday, September 29th, 2007 · 4 Comments

We saw the article on Charles N’Zogbia when he zoomed up to 3rd place in the Actim index. So we’ve been looking at the index and we do know that Sam is very keen on the index to gage players performances.

So we’re going to take a lot more notice of this index from now on – and of course are only interested in Newcastle United players.

We think it’s very interesting to see where players position in the index.
