Should Owen Play Both Games for England?

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 · 38 Comments

As we all know Sam Allardyce is concerned about the prospect of Steve McClaren fielding Michael Owen in both England’s European Championship qualifying matches against Estonia at Wembley on Saturday and Russia in Moscow four days later.

Sam thinks it’s a risk to ask Michael to play in crucial games after just undergoing surgery a week ago. As we mentioned earlier today it looks like Michael doesn’t agree. Let’s take a look at what Sam said yesterday about the situation.

Gateshead Lose First League Game Since March

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Gateshead lost their first league game since last March when they went down 2-1 to lowly placed Ilkeston Town at the International Stadium on Saturday.

To say Gateshead should have wrapped this one up is an understatement, but they missed too many of their chances.

Gateshead have now scored just 4 goals in their last 4 games, as goals seemed to have dried up, after scoring 30 goals in their first 7 games.

Joey Barton Almost There

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 · 6 Comments

Joey Barton scored for the reserves as Newcastle United beat Wigan Athletic 3-1 at Kingston Park last night.

Joey played a full 60 minutes and this follows his first half outing last Tuesday night in our 2-2 draw with Man City reserves.

Barton scored the first goal after 19 minutes after a Jonny Godsmark cross was not cleared and Joey volleyed home from close range.

Owen and Allardyce Not On Same Wavelength

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007 · 40 Comments

Michael Owen, after helping to get the job done on Sunday for Newcastle against Everton, says he is ready to face Estonia at Wembley on Saturday and Russia in Moscow four days later.

Looks like Sam Allardyce is urging caution because Michael was just operated on 10 days ago in Germany, but as usual Owen really wants to play for his country.

Is there anything wrong with this? Absolutely not, just as long as he doesn’t return injured again from the international break.

Final Reflections on the Newcastle Everton Game

Monday, October 8th, 2007 · 46 Comments

This was a game we had to win and we did in the end, but we sure do make it hard for ourselves sometimes.

Newcastle could have easily lost points in this game. After being so much the better team in the first half we found ourselves level after 52 minutes and Everton were even threatening to gain the ascendancy. Credit to the lads for hanging in there and finally getting the win.

Here are some final reflections on the game in no particular order.

Newcastle After 20 year-old 6’4″ Striker

Monday, October 8th, 2007 · 31 Comments

There is a report that Newcastle may be after 20 year-old Burnley striker and midfield player Kyle Lafferty.

Kyle looks a typical Allardyce player at 6’ 4” and fits the mold of players Newcastle chairman Chris Mort said they would like to bring to the club. Newcastle are after young players with potential, who have yet to develop their skills fully, much like the way Arsenal have brought in great players to the London club under Arsene Wenger.

The report was in yesterday’s People Sunday newspaper.
