Rozehnal To Spend Time On Bench

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 · 29 Comments

Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce has been talking to the Evening Chronicle about why David Rozehnal was left out of the side last Sunday against Everton.

We had thought that it was because David’s wife had just given birth to a baby boy, but apparently that wasn’t the only reason David was left out of the team.

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 · 6 Comments

Steven Taylor, who is preparing for the England Under-21 game against Montenegro tomorrow  evening at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester, has said that Newcastle is the team he is 100% committed to.

But still no word yet on the contract talks taking place with Newcastle and how they are going, since they first broke down in mid-September.

Let’s see what Steven has been saying.  It’s been almost 4 weeks since the initial contract talks ended, when it was rumored Michael was offered £20K/week.

Some news today, that’s good to report, amidst all the nonsense going on about our own Michael Owen.

First of all Steve McClaren, who visits St. James’ Park on a regular basis, has said that the England door is not closed to anybody, including Joey Barton.

Let’s look at what Steve said and where the remaining Newcastle players are off to this morning with manager Sam Allardyce.

Newcastle Sign 18 year-old French Striker

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 · 16 Comments

There is news in the Daily Mail this morning that Newcastle United have signed Wesley Ngo Baheng, an 18 year old striker from Le Havre, the French second division side.

Of course we did sign Charles N’Zogbia from Le Havre 3 years ago but that transfer became very protracted and has only recently been resolved.

Let’s see what we know about this deal, which at the moment is not too much.

Speed Relieved of Coaching Duties at Bolton

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 · 20 Comments

We mentioned yesterday there was unrest between Bolton manager Sammy Lee and former Newcastle midfielder Gary Speed when the Welshman was left out of the squad last Saturday for the home game with Chelsea, which Bolton lost 1-0.

Today Speed has been officially relieved of his coaching duties at the club and told to concentrate on his playing duties.

But we think this will only alert Sam Allardyce to the situation. As we mentioned yesterday don’t be surprised if Speed ends up at Newcastle in a coaching (and even playing) position if this rift continues.

Press Need to Lay Off Michael Owen

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 · 12 Comments

Newcastle striker Michael Owen gave an interview yesterday at England’s training camp at Watford, and defended his position of wanting to play for England and that he was fully fit.

After training hard last week he got himself fit for the Newcastle game and proved his fitness with an excellent headed goal (or was it his shoulder?) and is keen to play in the two upcoming England games.

Yet since returning to play for Newcastle on Sunday he has been bombarded with negative criticism.
