Newcastle Letter To FA on Owen – Good Sense

Thursday, October 11th, 2007 · 5 Comments

What the Independent has revealed today is that Newcastle United have sent a letter to the FA stating they are concerned about Michael Owen’s fitness level.

While it doesn’t say that Michael cannot play in both upcoming England games, it lets the FA know of Newcastle’s concerns.

That’s a wise thing for Newcastle to do, given Michael’s recent history with England and Michael.

Owen-Allardyce Rift is Media Made

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 · 15 Comments

Media reports this morning claim that Sam Allardyce and Michael Owen are having some problems in their working relationship. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

The reports suggest Sam got into Michael’s bad books last June when Sam thought England should forget about Owen during last year’s world cup, because he just wasn’t fit.

Joey Loves Football and Sam Loves Joey

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 · 11 Comments

Sam Allardyce has been singing the praises of Joey Barton today. Sam just loves Joey’s great enthusiasm for both the game and the club, even when he’s been out injured these past 10 weeks or so with his metatarsal injury.

That’s one reason Sam wanted him at Newcastle, because of his infectious enthusiasm and leadership, not to mention he’s a great midfielder who we feel will be pushing for an England place once he gets going for Newcastle.

Let’s take a look at the praise Joey has been getting from both his boss and reserve team coach Lee Clark.

Pearce Puts Joey’s Comments in Perspective

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 · 8 Comments

Stuart Pearce has talked about Joey Barton’s statements earlier in the week that honors for his club, Newcastle, would outweigh success for England.

We really didn’t see too much wrong with what Joey said but it’s been twisted out of context to mean he didn’t care about playing for England, which is not what he said.

But Pearce believes they are comments from a player desperate to prove himself after missing the start of the season with a foot injury.

Let’s see what Stuart said about his former Manchester City captain Joey Barton.

Give Michael Owen a Break

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 · 14 Comments

Michael Owen has shown his obvious frustration at all the media hype over his injury and whether he is fit or not.

It finally seems to have finally gotten to him.

You’ve got to give Michael credit for working his way back so quickly and with tremendous effort to get fit for Newcastle’s game with Everton last Sunday. That effort wasn’t wasted as he scored what tuned out to be the winner, when Given scored an embarrassing own goal with only a couple minutes left of added time.

Let’s see what Michael has been saying.

When Sam Allardyce signed on as manager of Newcastle United in May, there was a lot of speculation about who would accompany him to Tyneside to be part of his coaching staff.
