Newcastle vs Wigan Preview – Newcastle Win

Friday, August 31st, 2007 · 17 Comments

The next 48 hours is important for Newcastle United. First of all we’d like to see Abdoulaye Faye and Habib Beye sign for the club and then tomorrow we need all 3 points from the Wigan Athletic game and hopefully a clean sheet.

Wigan have made a good start under new manager Chris Hutchins and are 3rd top of the league with 7 points from their first 4 games. Top scorer is one Antoine Sibierski, an admitted Newcastle supporter, who had an excellent season with us last year.

American Danny Szetela Set to Join Newcastle

Friday, August 31st, 2007 · 22 Comments

News is circulating that Danny Szetela of the US under-20 team has signed for Newcastle United and while we don’t think that’s entirely accurate we do expect Danny to sign sometime today with Newcastle then officially announcing the signing.

Roma, Brescia and even Lazio have been after the player since he starred for the US in the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada during the summer. Those were the same championships that David Edgar captained the young Canadian side.

Faye and Beye Will Both Sign For Newcastle Today

Friday, August 31st, 2007 · 46 Comments

Today is the last day of the transfer window and as far as Newcastle United are concerned they would hope to sign both Abdoulaye Faye from Bolton and Habib Beye of Marseilles.

It’s getting quite late now with less than 16 hours to go to the deadline but we already know Faye has passed his medical and was at the Carling Cup game against Barnsley so we would expect Faye to sign.

Things are a little less cut and dried with Beye, but we still expect him to be a Newcastle player by midnight tonight.

Major Newcastle News Stories – 30th August – 2007

Thursday, August 30th, 2007 · 43 Comments

Double good news for Newcastle United fans this morning.

First of all we won last night with a professional if not exciting display with Michael Owen and Oba Martins getting the goals but they were never on the pitch together. Good competition between the two of them which is great for the club.

During the game news was coming from Sky Sports News that Newcastle were close to capturing long term target Habib Beye from Marseilles.

So it looks very very likely that both Abdoulaye Faye and Habib Beye will join the club, Faye today and Beye probably tomorrow. Two Senegalese players with lots of experience which will give great competition to our back four.

Any news of a signing will come on the Official Newcastle United web-site.

While the game was starting last night fresh rumors were circulating from Sky Sports News that Newcastle were close to getting their long term target Habib Beye from Marseilles.

Sam had been pursing Beye ever since he came in as Newcastle manager and in late June and early July it looked like we were close to getting Beye , but it never materialized and then Beye was quoted as saying he was happy at Marseilles.

Final Reflections on the Newcastle Barnsley Game

Thursday, August 30th, 2007 · 17 Comments

Newcastle showed they are becoming an integrated squad because with so many changes from Sunday the players were still able to put in a good performance and get the job done. That will show Sam that things are starting to work.

Allardyce Pleased with Performance and Clean Sheet

Thursday, August 30th, 2007 · 2 Comments

Looks like Sam Allardyce was happy with the performance as Newcastle stepped up their game in the second half against Barnsley to take them comfortably through to the third round of the Carling Cup last night. The draw for the third round is scheduled for noon this Saturday.

An impressive crowd of just over 30,000 turned out for the game with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley again present and again wearing a Newcastle shirt.

He must have been happy after the game after he witnessed his first win in person – hopefully there’ll be many more in the future.

It’s good to have Mike at the games.
