Final Reflections on the Newcastle Villa Game

Monday, August 20th, 2007 · 14 Comments

There was a lot of dissatisfaction on Saturday when Newcastle could only take a point from a good Aston Villa side that we had expected to beat.

But the reaction from some fans we think has been a bit over the top.

This is a game that Sam suggested we would have lost last season – and he’s right.

Newcastle Linked with Barcelona’s Deco and Belletti

Monday, August 20th, 2007 · 29 Comments

There have been newspaper reports over the weekend linking Barcelona players Deco and Belletti to Newcastle.

Certainly after the dour and lack-luster performance from Newcastle on Saturday, against a good looking Aston Villa side, some creativity is needed in midfield and Deco would help in that area.

Faye Headed to Newcastle after Rejecting Bolton Offer

Monday, August 20th, 2007 · 25 Comments

The protracted transfer of Abdoulaye Faye to Newcastle seems likely to be completed early this week as the People are reporting that Faye has turned down a contract offer from Bolton Wanderers that would have trebled his wages.

Faye is now set to sign for Newcastle for £2M this week, which we feel is another good deal for Newcastle and Sam Allardyce.

NUFCBLOG POLL: Choose Best Right Back for Newcastle

Monday, August 20th, 2007 · 17 Comments

We ran an article yesterday highlighting four right-backs that Sam could bring into the squad in the next 11 days of the transfer window.

Included were three foreign players and two English players.

Today we run our first poll (hopefully of many) where we ask you to vote on whom you think would be the best right-back Sam can buy based on the original four from yesterday, plus Leroy Rosenior, who now seems to be available from Fulham.

Major Newcastle News Stories – 19th August – 2007

Sunday, August 19th, 2007 · 15 Comments

Most of the news today is concentrated on our important game with Aston Villa yesterday and it really wasn’t what fans were hoping for or expecting.

Not a good display from Newcastle but the good thing is they got stuck in and at least didn’t concede a goal which secured us a point in the end.

We discuss the game and which new players we need before the end of the transfer window in 12 days time.

Also, Mark Allison did his his lap of honor around St. James’ Park last night and was then presented with his own shirt by chairman Chris Mort. Mark has raised just over £25,000 for Charity – St. Benedict’s Hospice specifically, with his magnificent 874 miles run from John O’Groats to Land’s End. Guess what number is on the shirt.

Four Good Right Backs for Newcastle

Sunday, August 19th, 2007 · 25 Comments

It’s very obvious now that Newcastle must recruit a right-back before the transfer window expires in 12 days time.

Stephen Carr is too slow and can be roasted too easily by a speedy winger.

Here are 4 right backs we could go after in the remaining twelve days of the transfer window – and any one of them could do a job at Newcastle.

Sam Agrees with Keane – Players Should Lump It More

Sunday, August 19th, 2007 · 12 Comments

Roy Keane recently blasted weak players who wouldn’t move to the North East because their wives or girlfriends didn’t want to live too far from London.

Turns out Sam has supported Roy in a lot of what the Irishman said.

Sam of course has already lost Kieron Dyer because the England International wanted to be nearer to his family in Ipswich.

Newcastle After Another Top Class Keeper

Sunday, August 19th, 2007 · 14 Comments

It’s a worrying time for Shay Given right now. After his terrible bowel injury at West Ham last year Shay has been continually hit with groin problems.

Sam Allardyce is getting concerned and he wants to bring in another goalkeeper and the ones he is targeting don’t look to be second string.

What Did Newcastle Learn From Villa Game?

Sunday, August 19th, 2007 · 25 Comments

It was a dour display and game from Newcastle yesterday. To be truthful it was a disappointment both in the way we played and the fact that Sam wasn’t able to secure a victory in his first competitive match at St. James’ Park.

But there were also some positives in the match so let’s review what went right and what went wrong yesterday.

Let’s also try to see what it means in terms of the players we still need at the club.
