Sad Times For Kieron Dyer

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007 · 32 Comments

We were very sad to hear Kieron Dyer will now miss most of the season after presumably breaking his leg in last night’s West Ham vs Bristol Rovers game. Craig Bellamy scored a brace to take the Hammers through.

It’s only 10 days since Kieron’s move to West Ham to be near his family in Ipswich, and this injury has nothing to do with his previous hamstring problems – it’s just the worst of luck for the player, who has been plagued with injuries throughout his career.

Newcastle take on Barnsley tonight in the second round of the Carling Cup, in what is probably Newcastle’s best chance to win something in Sam Allardyce’s first season in charge of the club.

It looks if we get through this tie we’ll be in the last 32 teams in the competition – so there’s still quite a way to go to get to Wembley, which has to be our goal in this competition.

Michael Owen Ready To Start Firing Again

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007 · 16 Comments

It’s taking a little while for Michael Owen to rediscover his sharpness after almost two years in the football wilderness.

His two serious injuries, the metatarsal and ACL knee problems, have  restricted him to just a few first class-games for Newcastle United since he signed almost exactly two years ago.

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce has been talking to Paul Gilder of the Newcastle Journal – so we’ll take a look at what he says about Michael.

Great To See Mike Ashley At The Game

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007 · 10 Comments

We thought it was a nice touch that Mike Ashley turned up unannounced at the Middlesbrough game on Sunday. Just a pity we didn’t win so he may have been persuaded to give Big Sam more transfer funds to bring in a couple more players.

That was the first Newcastle game Mike has seen in person since he bought the club. But he still hasn’t been seen at St. James’ Park, and we wonder if he’s staying in the area and may take in the Barnsley game tonight.

Hope so – it will be good for him to taste the atmosphere at St. James’ Park although a league game will have St. James’ Park packed full.

Big Sam Targets Carling Cup Trophy

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 · 19 Comments

Sam Allardyce would love to bring a trophy to St James’ Park in this his first year in charge of the club.

Newcastle’s best chance this season will be in the Carling Cup and the Magpies start their campaign tomorrow evening when they play Barnsley at St. James’ Park in the second round.

While it would be easy to think Newcastle should get through the tie easily, strange things can happen in these encounters and Sam will not take any chances.

Major Newcastle News Stories – 28th August – 2007

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 · 31 Comments

The good news today for Newcastle fans is that Sammy Lee has said that he will no longer stand in the way of letting Abdoulaye Faye leave for Newcastle, and the transfer is expected to go through imminently.

A fee was agreed over the weekend between the two clubs and the other items that were holding up the transfer – whatever they were – have been ironed out. We’ll wait to hear a confirmation of Faye’s signing on the Official Newcastle United web-site.

Big Sam is also looking for a new right-back after losing both Stephen Carr (hamstring strain) and Peter Ramage (knee ligaments) to injuries against Middlesbrough. Carr will be out anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on the severity of the strain, but Peter may be sidelined for months – the knee is too sore to assess the damage at the moment.

We really have no idea who Sam will be after for right-back in the next three days – so we’ll just have to wait and see on that one.

Sammy Lee Says Faye To Join Newcastle

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 · 18 Comments

Sammy Lee, the new Bolton manager, who did very well to steer Bolton to an excellent win over Reading on Saturday (3-0) and relieve pressure on the club and himself, had been keen to pick unsettled Abdoulaye Faye for that game.

But having withdrawn Faye from his squad at the last moment, because Faye was not in the right frame of mind, Lee will not oppose Faye’s departure, although he has tried to get the African to stay at the Trotters for a few weeks now.

Oba Martins Is Staying at Newcastle

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 · 12 Comments

With only three days to go before the transfer window slams shut you just knew the press would bring up an Oba Martins move to Arsenal ….. again.

Even though Martins has said he is committed to Newcastle United, despite interest from Arsenal, the press will not leave it alone.

Now the story being spread around is that Sam will need to sell Martins before bringing in defensive reinforcements this week.

Please – give me a break.

Which Players Will Sam Bring Into Newcastle?

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 · 28 Comments

Sam Allardyce is ready to strengthen his defense again and met chairman Chris Mort yesterday to discuss additional funding.

Chelsea’s Glen Johnson and Lassana Diara are both being mentioned in the press as possible targets, and we reported yesterday that Newcastle have also enquired about Atletico Madrid’s combative French midfielder Peter Luccin.
