Ashley To Invest an Incredible ₤400M in Newcastle

Sunday, May 27th, 2007 · 25 Comments

Neil Farrington of the Sunday Sun is reporting today that Mike Ashley has huge plans to make Newcastle United one of the top clubs in Europe – within a short five years – in what Newcastle fans have been waiting to hear since the Kevin Keegan days.
It will cost Ashley about ₤133M to buy Newcastle and he has budgeted another ₤270M over the next five years to take us to the heights.

When you then add the $300M that’s being invested in the St. James Park expansion – with hotels and an increased capacity to 60,000 – that takes the investment in the club and grounds to an amazing ₤700M in the next 5 years – unbelievable.

Newcastle’s New Away Strip – Blue/White Stripes

Saturday, May 26th, 2007 · 37 Comments

We have to admit that we’ve never liked our away strip that looks like the Aston Villa strip.

So – in the spirit of light-heartedness – this is not the new away strip but it’s an away strip we think would look great.

Since our colors are black and white – and light blue – why wouldn’t we have an away strip that was like the Argentina colors – blue and white stripes – and have it
be the same design as our black/white shirts?

Thanks to one of our readers – Andy Gray – for providing the logos on the new shirts. :D

Bobby Moncur – Owen Should Pledge His Future to Newcastle

Saturday, May 26th, 2007 · 2 Comments

One of my favorite Newcastle players of all time – Bobby Moncur – is interviewed periodically by the Evening Chronicle.
One of the topics Bobby talked about yesterday was the Michael Owen situation (or should we call it saga) – and as usual Moncur talked a whole lot of sense.

Michael Owen’s Recent Behavior is Bizarre

Saturday, May 26th, 2007 · 43 Comments

Michael Owen’s behavior – to Newcastle fans – since the news broke that he had an outclause in his contract – has been bizarre.

He refuses to discuss the situation and has made no statement at all to fans, as to what his intentions are.

Newcastle shouldn’t allow this nonsense to go on much longer – even if it means he will end up leaving the club.

The Newcastle club is more important than any one individual player – whoever he is.

Owen Comes Through England B Game Unscathed

Saturday, May 26th, 2007 · 2 Comments

England B won their game last night 3-1 against Albania with Stuart Downing scoring two and Alan Smith scored the third.

It’s the first time Owen has played 90 minutes for England for some time – and is another step in his rehabilitation back to full fitness. Michael captained the side.

Both Steven Taylor and Kieron Dyer were introduced for the last quarter of the game – and looked good.

Whether Owen will be at Newcastle come August we still don’t know – and he is not telling anybody as far as we know. Once Mike Ashley comes in – maybe as early as next week – we will need some answers – so Big Sam knows exactly which players he needs to replace in the existing Newcastle squad.

Newcastle Pursue Barcelona’s Eidur Gudjohnsen

Friday, May 25th, 2007 · 8 Comments

Newcastle United manager Sam Allardyce is reported to be tracking Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen, according to Lee Ryder in tonight’s Evening Chronicle.

Gudjohnsen is considered certain to depart Barcelona – who he joined only last summer (June 14th, 2006).  Many thought that was not a good move for him – because it would be difficult for him to break into the team – which has proved to be accurate.

The Evening Chronicle has reported that Allardyce wants to bring the former Bolton Wanderers player to St James’ Park.

Newcastle Chase Whiz Kid Dimitri Payet

Friday, May 25th, 2007 · 12 Comments

News broke today that Dimitri Payet , currently playing for FC Nantes Atlantique in Ligue 1, and one of the bright sparks of French football – is a Newcastle target.

While we have no idea if there is any truth to this – he looks an exciting player who has come through the ranks at Nantes – and would make a good addition to the youngsters presently at St. James’ Park.
