Newcastle Takeover by Ashley Inevitable

Friday, May 25th, 2007 · 3 Comments

There was good news for Newcastle fans yesterday as news leaked out that Mike Ashley had big things planned for Newcastle United – and wants to bring the glory days back to the club.
News like this will only put more pressure on beleaguered Chairman Freddy Shepherd to sell his 29% ownership in Newcastle and it’s clear these news leaks are a strategy by Ashley to get his intentions on Newcastle out to the fans.

Allardyce Wows Owen and Dyer at England Hotel

Friday, May 25th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Sam Allardyce held his first face-to-face discussions with two of his England stars – Michael Owen and Kieron Dyer yesterday – at England’s team hotel on Wednesday night.

Sam was able to explain his plans to completely restructure the Newcastle team, medical staff and back-room structure of Newcastle – and reports suggest both players were very impressed with both what Sam had to say – and the man himself.

Why Fowler Could be a Smart Deal for Allardyce

Friday, May 25th, 2007 · 17 Comments

News in the Sun is that Sam would like to sign Liverpool’s Robbie Fowler – who is available on a free transfer since being released by Liverpool recently.

Most fans will not think this a particularly good deal – but we think there could be more upside than downside if we can get Robbie.

Michael Owen Returns to Captain England B

Thursday, May 24th, 2007 · 3 Comments

Michael Owen is in the starting lineup for England’s B side against Albania at Burnley’s Turf Moor ground on Friday.

The Newcastle striker started the last three league games for Newcastle – but is still short of match practice after 10 months out of the game. Owen is keen to play in England’s Euro 2008 qualifier with Estonia on 6th June.

This seems eerily like last season when – following 5 months on the sidelines with a broken foot – Michael tried to come back for the World Cup. Then in the game against Sweden he suffered a terrible ACL knee injury – which deprived Newcastle of his services for all of last season – and Michael himself was laid up for another 10 months as he labored long and hard to get back to full fitness.

Manchester United forward Alan Smith will partner Owen in attack.

Freddy Shepherd’s Time Is Up at Newcastle

Thursday, May 24th, 2007 · 45 Comments

Freddy Shepherd has always said he would sell his 29.8% stake in Newcastle United only if the right bid came along and it was good for the club.

He expanded by saying if a Geordie Abramovich came along he would sell – which was a reference to someone who was rich and able to pump big money into the club..

While Mike Ashley is not a Geordie – at least he’s an Englishman and worth close to ₤2B – and he has offered good money for the club. That offer will realize Shepherd a $30M profit on his investment and has already given John Hall close to a $50M profit on his Newcastle venture – started back in 1992.

Shepherd’s initial reaction is one of defiance – which has disappointed us greatly – here’s why.
