Rafa’s First Potential Early Summer Signing Identified

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 · 46 Comments

The Mirror is reporting today that Newcastle first signing this summer will likely be Fulham’s creative midfielder Tom Cairney and as soon as we are promoted Newcastle will lodge a bid for the once capped Scottish International.

Tom is rated at around £10M and Fulham would probably jump at the chance to get that kind of money to reinforce their squad for next season.

However with four wins in a row and a 4-1 hammering of Huddersfield at John Smith’s Stadium last Saturday Fulham have to be the play-off favorites to get that 3rd playoff spot.

Rafa Delivers Simple Message Of Success To His Players

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 · 16 Comments

Rafa Benitez is an extremely pragmatic and hard-working man and after only getting one point from the last three games he spent last week coaching and talking to the players about what they did wrong at Ipswich in the shocking 3-1 defeat.

He also delivered a simple message on how they can become successful.

The Ipswich game was one of our worst displays on the road this season and it followed one of our best displays at home against Leeds United who we completely outplayed.

We didn’t get the 1-0 win because right at the end of extra time some of our players lost their concentration and we conceded a sloppy goal – another sloppy goal.

2 more points dropped.

Don’t Think It Will Be Easy Against Preston

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 · 75 Comments

In the last eight games since we took Huddersfield part 3-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium on March 4th (seems like 3 months ago)  Newcastle have slumped in both form and results.

The outcome is that we have just 9 points and only two wins in that woeful streak and the 3 games before the International break with just 2 points was the worst return of any three league games this season.

Since then we have bettered that and in our last three league games we have two defeats and one draw for a return of a single point.

Not good.

Rafa Demonstrates Total Knowledge Of The Transfer System

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 · 48 Comments

Rafa Benitez always does his homework and last summer he looked at how many clubs get automatically promoted the next season (finish in the top two in the Championship) after being relegated from the Premier League  the season before.

It’s interesting that when we were  relegated seven years ago that used to happen a lot more than it does now.

Rafa looked at the last five years to be more up to date and accurate, since the TV rights money has exploded in that time – and he found out that only Burnley had managed automatic promotion in the season immediately following relegation,

It’s much more difficult these days because there are much stronger teams down below who are completely motivated to move from getting £7M per season from the Championship to an average of £140M per season from the Premier League.

Who wouldn’t be?

Which 6 Of These Players Would You Sign This Summer?

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 · 15 Comments

Now that it’s almost certain Newcastle will promoted this season we want to get an idea of the players fans think we should sign this summer.

So we are holding a poll and have listed 13 players we have been linked with this season and who seem fairly legitimate targets.

You can make six choices but make you choices as if you were Rafa bringing in players to strengthen different position in the side.

The Chronicle has reported that Rafa wants six first team starters brought in this summer so you choice should be those.

Looking Ahead – It’s A Huge Challenge For Rafa Benitez

Sunday, April 23rd, 2017 · 117 Comments

There was mass relief yesterday for Newcastle fans when Huddersfield lost at home to an in-form Fulham side at John Smith’s Stadium and it was obvious before the end of the game Fulham were too just good for the Terriers.

But once that final whistle blew – Newcastle were 2 points from the Premier League with three games to go.

Hopefully we can win in style tomorrow night at home to Preston and there will be massive celebrations at the end of the game – with the emphasis on massive.

Now and then (there’s a fool such as I)
